Asking in a nice newbie way, what did you mean by it not quite being a hobby grade ESC? Wait... I played it back and think you said hobbywing, my bad. (5:41)
I hated the jerk, too. However, one day I remembered a clip from movie, Star Wars' s "Use the force", so I prepared for it and used the force to fight back that evil "Jerk" whenever I step on board🤣🤣🤣 ( Frankly, I still hate the "Jerk". )
Great review my man, I totally understand burn out. Trust me, you should only review what you want to review. you've earned it at this point, I wish you the best of luck and cant wait to see where you're new direction takes you! Hopefully to America so we can skate?!
Drew, my man, if you dont mind me asking, what cameras are you using/ recommend for recording eskate footy? Still waiting on my board but got some great ideas already!
Hi Daniel, wish you success for 2023 as it was for 2022... without injuries if possible, both you and cameras ;-) Question : which board did impress you the most ? I think lot of subs would like to know. Cheers and again, thanks for all you do for Esk8 little world ;-)
Awesome review DKwan! Been watching you and some other guys for awhile now. I really wanted to get the Hurricane Ultra, but pulled the trigger on the Ownboard Carbon Zeus Pro instead! Im looking forward to making some awesome videos to share with you guys and itching to get riding!
I'm looking forward to these "terrible" ideas you speak of. And I'm glad you're going to finally do what YOU want to do. Don't listen to our demands. I personally don't have any which aren't political. And we'll stay clear of politics on this channel for sure. Ride safe!!!
Glad to hear you're pushing ahead with what you want to do, brother. I'll be keen to see which boards you review this year since it'll likely be a more interesting line up. I've enjoyed all your hard work and I'm excited to see what '23 brings to your channel.
Seems overengineered... a simple board is better The best board i came across was the backfire g3 plus. Sadly they dont make that specific model. But a rangey, lightweight/carbon deck and powerful motors with single kingpin trucks are the best imo.
Very odd. I’ve just got the new hurricane ultra, belt driven, and the ESC is stupidly smooth, it’s so easy to use even in mode 4 because of how accurate and responsive the ESC is. It’s pretty much the smoothest ESC I’ve used on a board.
Look at the video of the other guy, because he is making much better videos as i do......I love your self reflection...And btw, because of your self reflection ability, it makes your videos way much better, Daniel! Its a pitty that you live so far away, as i would love to spend a day with you and have some fun on our boards and also because i also have this self reflective type of humor :-) Cheers made!
I own a Meepo Hurricane. There's is no way to ride the thing smoothly. The ESC just sucks. I do not recommend any Meepo products until they figure out how to control the acceleration smoothly instead of these hair trigger jerks waiting to buck you off from any speed. A slight over-touch on the controller can be catastrophic. Exway figured it out (I own a Riot). Very disappointed in Meepo. It's just not fun riding it.
@@patricktrinh9389 I wish the RU-vid reviewers had been more honest with their reviews of the Hurricane. I would have bought something different. Oh well....
Love your vids - always interesting, informative, well made and fun! Thanks for keeping the standard so high. I bought my exway flex after watching your review, and have a great time on it! Looking forward to see your new approach in 2023
Very interesting review! I have Hurricane. It seems to me that the jerking (poking) depends on the different stretching of the belt. The board does twitch, but not much. Hi from Russia ;)
The Meepo tubeless tires should be run at much lower pressures. 30psi is way too high. I am 175lbs/80kg and run the front tires at 16psi and the rears at 18psi. With low pressure, this wheelset is amazingly comfortable. I have tested numerous 6" and 7" tires. Nothing comes close in terms of comfort and grip. As for the jerkiness, it has more to do with the remote than the ESC. Pair the older M4S remote with the board and the response will be greatly improved. Also, flip the board over and checkout how the cone cup washers make contact wit the hanger. This is a big issue that Meepo needs to address. It limits how far you can lean. The clearance is so bad that the flat washers also make contact and the hangers hits the side of the bushings.
good pros and cons! definitely fixed the 'letting off the throttle' jerkiness on my bamboo hurricane by loosening the belt from factory tightness and keeping the tires aired up. regular acceleration jerkiness isnt too uncomfortable for anyone whos thinking that might be a deal breaker (not sure about gear drive) with new bushings im pretty stable at 30 mph
The original Meepo hurricane was way better in my opinion, the only thing I like about the Ultra is the Bamboo deck and Tubeless tires. The Gear drive isn’t all that either just has a sudden jerk when you throttle with lower top speed. Plus your right when you make content you should enjoy doing it, when you free like your obligated to it the video turns to meh. Keep making the Exway videos tho those are very fun to watch 👌
I have the gear drive for the Hurricane and it's a huge upgrade over the belts. More torque and still the same top end. No jerking after I installed my gear drive, more coasting too.
@@one_point21_gigawatts Not really more torque it just has a sudden kick because of the gear drive. Top speed is also lower to 27-30mph so dosnt fit my needs lol
Hey Mr. Kwan. I'm follwoing your channel for approximatly a year now. I like everyone of your reviews and some really did affect my choices on which board I'll buy. To be honest: I watched the majority of your videos for entertainment and a little bit to learn about more specs, types, hardware knowledge etc. That's why I really like your decision of "only" making videos about boards in which you are interested. Please keep the good stuff flowing and I'm curious what you will drop from now on!
In scooters, that part would be a "cushdrive." Basically, it's a torque dampener. They are in the back wheels of a lot of motorcycles, too. Because they are using gears, either they dampen the rotation a bit, or going up or down any rock would transmit it's force into the gears and motor. It also helps a bit not so much for abrupt acceleration, but to calm down the motor "cogging" from the magnetic pull, as well as the harmonics from the geartrain.
Hadean video or riot! Maybe you will get it now :D I finally ordered mine, had so many motor failures, 2xBamboo deck breaks on GTR that I thought the new bigger motors and a Carbon deck will be a good time on 97mm. Also I cannot find any other remote as comfortable as Evolves trigger remote. And test drove Hadean last summer.. that shit is nuts on Corsa mode 97mm.. why the hell would you ever want a faster board :D maybe for AT wheels yes.
I just cannot trust meepo. My friend got one and battery got so weak after 1y. After buying another one the same issue... Esc feels like shit in comparison to Exway ESCs and there is a 1sec delay when accelerating and braking.
Hi Daniel, i am really enjoying your channel. I am new to esk8 boarding. What board do you recommend for a learner? Mid range market? I live in the UK 🇬🇧 thank you!
Hey love you vids just got my second board after my flex and I think you will love the B-ONE Balrog X. Just got mine today and this think is way fast [33+mph] and with great range of 34miles at the pice you can’t beat. Anyway you should do a review over the board it supper fun and I think you will like it.
Totally agree with the geardrive!! No changeable opertunities to ST wheels, Its heavy, expensive, and free rolling sounds terrible with the gears in slow speed! Despite all of this I am still curious why all the eskate manufacturers came out with gear drive last year almost at the same time!! When you keep riding eskate, in some point you start to want to ride ST instead of AT. And actually longboards are designed to perform much better in ST. If you want AT, I prefer you get another board in the trampa categories or fluxmotion series!
Hi Daniel, the red part is an elastomer coupling. Its main purpose is to dampen torque spikes between motor and drivetrain. Torque spikes define the lifetime of parts. If you dampen it you get more longliveability. State of the art in mechanical engineering. Due to the damping it also changes the dynamic behaviour of the system, which needs to be recognized by the controler. Due to the lower torque spikes you can also expect lower current peaks during initial acceleration. I bought two boards because of your reviews and I watch the rest because of the entertainment. As one guy said before, you driving through the city or whatever is enough for me to watch. I really liked your trip through wild west China with Max. Cheers.
That feeling you get when you let off the throttle can be easily addressed with a vesc by lowering the positive & negative ramping time. That's why I always build my own. My first board ever was a meepo & I hated that jerkiness. That jerkiness can be really bad for new riders with little to no experience.
I was excited to see Meepo have a bamboo deck option for this board. However I think the esc onstantly holds them back. There are just better boards out there that dont have the jerky issue. They have to figure it out, im rooting for Meepo.
