What a great way to start the morning while getting ready for the work day, watching a guy walking around in London also on this gloomy Monday morning. Your commentary is not only educational but comedy gold. It’s amazing that you can walk around such stunning architecture in calmness compared to hours of boring concrete freeway commuter traffic in Cali. ☕️ 🍩

That's a brilliant comment and much appreciated, thank you! As it's all so familiar to me as a local resident, I tend to overlook just how lucky I am to spend so much time in an environment which is akin to a spectacular open-air museum! 🙏🏻

Massive confusion about the horse... 😂 Titan (Blues), Overlord and Q10 (Life Guards) are the giant horses we occasionally spot, but this one threw me. Confirmed 100% that he is in fact a horse we have never seen at Horse Guards before - and his name is Radford. 🐴

Radford is yet another magnificent beast , along the same lines as Titan , Monty , Kensington and Indiana . I'd love to know if they are from the same bloodline , same breeders . Indigo is a regal beauty but I have a great liking for the big " chunky " boys 😘. Thanks for the walk round it's great to see other parts of London even if it's damp and dreary . My daughter lives on Olympic Park so maybe when I get down next year she'll bring me along ! Enjoy your day off tomorrow John xxx

Your short walk this morning whet my apetite for more. I came to knoe something of London by walking it in various trips over the past 30 yrs this month. Sadly my wslking days are over. May I rely on you to show off the most marvelously exciting city in the world in future? And I love Hirse Guards whenever available. One of my first photos was the Life Guards coming up Constitution Hill. So looking forward to what you will bring us. Thank you😊🇧🇸

Thanks for reminding me I’m going to have to find something else to do instead of watching the gorgeous horses and guards next month John😢 Dreary day today, especially compared to yesterday, but then, the weather here is just as changeable, “4 seasons in one day” as Neil Finn had it. The horses looked resigned lol, but as beautiful as ever. Reckon the Blues are just wanting to get everything done and back into the dry at Hyde Park, and I can’t say as I blame em….but wow didn’t the LifeGuards look utterly SPLENDID riding in, in their scarlet cloaks and shiny tack….like red gems on grey velvet! That’s not to take away from the more subtle splendour of the Blues tho. Northumberland and his rider in particular looked the absolute picture of a mounted guard. He really does intense and brooding, very well. Lol had to laugh at your chat with “our favourite trooper” Yep, in 9-10 months we may well see him, struggling to stay awake like every new dad known to creation, on a horse lol. We shall ALL be looking out for that I’m sure 😂. Gotta say too, it’s been nice to be able to see more of the human side of this lovely young man thru your friendship with him, John, and that’s really cemented him as a real favourite for me. They’re all lovely, but some just have something extra.

My first place of work was in Bedford Street just off the Strand, the walk this morning took me back to those days but my goodness I do not recognise the place. Looking back with the lens of hindsight I thought the Strand was a more 'gentle' place. Civil Service Stores, great place for shopping, Top Shop and of course, Charing Cross Hospital. A different world to what we see today. Yes I am going back to the 60s and 70s but everything seemed so quiet then. Thank you for your videos and your walking tours and, of course, the wonderful Kings Guard.

Thank you for this amazing Monday. I've longed to be in London to see the gorgeous architecture and the gorgeous grey, cold, rainy weather. I live in Arizona and I feel about the sun as many Londoners feel about the grey wet weather. I'm overly sensitive to light and heat, so I've changed to a day sleeper and up all night. Maybe one day I will tap you on shoulder at horse guards and say hi, give the horses a pet, while wearing my bobble hat just for you, John. You brighten my days and I love your sense of humor. Thank you for all you do to share your city with us. You've no idea how much you are appreciated for someone like myself who is bedridden. Hope you got a date with Angie from Mexico. Bonsoir 😊 Pickpockets either need to be caught in the act (attempted theft) or in possession of stolen property (theft). They typically work in a small group with the actual thief passing on the stolen property to an accomplice who then makes a fast exit from the scene of the crime.

We can see that it’s very gloomy there, the lights over the main gate are on.

John, I have a question, the police always seem to ride the dapples, most of them, are the horses picked for each job, to the point of maybe their personality, they’re more laid-back, they’re more relaxed. Do you know if this makes a difference as to what job they’re assigned to?

It's a super question and I honestly have no idea. It's extraordinary just how many beautiful and unique Police Horses the Met seem to have! 🐴😍🐴

@@LondonCityWalks Some years ago, particularly during Football riots, I learnt that Police Horses specifically chosen for riot control all had to have extremely calm natures. The reason being they could not be 'spooked'. Thus would not bolt through a crowd . Made sense to me. The idea is to control rioters not kill them 🤗

john, could have done a close up on Private Ellis. He passed at the bottom, at minute 37.

First off I had to go back several days to send this post to you. I love your post enough that I go looking for you specifically for my morning fix. Lately you seem to be missing. I sure hope you are alright as you are missing more that on. There are not many days left of the horses before they shut down. Please have a beautiful Christmas with love all around you. God bless you and I will miss your walk abouts.
