Tired of that desk job? Taylor Kerr can relate. He took an office job after graduating from Texas A&M University, but when he learned about the opportunities offshore with Transocean, he knew he needed to make a change.
I worked on the Sonat Discovery 534 Offshore Lousiana.Back before Sonat sold to Transocean.Working in Marine Dept open door for me to get my MMD/MMC,Now with MSC 28 years been awesome. From a Drillship to US NAVY Ships.I miss fishing in Mississippi Canyon 120 miles off Venice La.It's 6000 ft deep water.Lots more opportunities today if you take time to look.
This dude is false. It takes years of knowledge experience. If you roustabout on a off sea rig you have to know everything about everything this is a job earned. The money might sound good and easy but these men are the best of the best no different then a navy seal.
Roustabout is a beginning position. It's the bottom of the totem pole. When you work for the vessel operator, it's where you start out. From there, you cross train into other positions and eventually work your way up. I've been offshore for over 18 years, so I speak from experience.
