I did not think for a moment that it was abnormal to see 4 beautiful black women on horses. A cowgirl is a cowgirl, her color does not matter. You go girls! You are beautiful!
Woke is a Joke, You Boomer if you’re saying it’s cultural appropriate of white people sorry to break it to you but there’s no culture of white Americans there’s literally no culture to appropriate
I'm a horse girl from the city. I worked on the racetrack. I had 2 goals. One was to be the first black female veterinarian on the racetrack, (don't think that's happened yet) and to be a buckaroo with my 250 head of cattle with my own rubber legs. Nobody understood me with my boots and cowboy- cowgirl hats.
Ladies, this video just showed up on my computer. I am from Tucson, Arizona....I am white, now old, and have had horses when young, and miss them still. To hear and see you was delightful, and powerful......I wish you the very best success....and dwould like you to keep talking to your horses....you matter so much in making our country the way it should have been, and can be yet. Thank you
This was truly an eye opener for me. We never see this in main media. A program like this geared toward inner city youth would ground our kids to connect with who they truly are. Beautiful souls. I salute you ladies!
This is not new. I know lots of black people in Virginia that have horses and have ranches. I've ridden horses on the trail. There are black people that ride in Maryland as well.
Google the Ebony Horseman in Shelby NC or the Compton Cowboys. Theres so much positivity among the black race as well as black inventors that you will never know about unless you do research.
Madame Defarge I recently lived in Colorado from New York and took a real appreciation for rodeo. Since I am a woman of color everyone I know said it was a white thing. Why would I like it. I am so please to see this talented riders.
I love to see multiple races involved in this lifestyle/sport. Very proud, very relieved to see people not putting a limit on this by color. Would like to see more cowboys and cowgirls of color in the bigstream. Not just caucasian or latino.
Jamey Powers no disrespect. I understand what you’re saying..But that’s all we see are Latinos and Caucasians. Like the system pointed out we are the original man. They brought us here to farm and build their houses, raise their animals. We’ve gotten very far away from who we are, which is the children of Israel. If you read the Bible you’ll see that we were agricultural people. So I don’t care about seeing other people, or what they’re doing, I only want to see more of our people teaching them that this is part of their heritage. We need to get back to grow in our own food. Because this evil beast. Is poisoning us. I love my people....
@@mosheobadiyahisrael6032 EXACTLY WOW you said this 6 months ago & now April 13, 2020, we can't leave the damn house!!! I knew it was coming. Time to get off the grid....go where you feel safe & LIVE!!!
@strawberrymilkshake Yes he is, that's my Brother (Achi in Hebrew). We are YAH'S (referred to as God) chosen people *(Amos 3:2...Deuteronomy 7:6...1 Peter 2:9 KJV).* and once we wake up from our deep sleep, we'll be able to come back to our old ways. By the way, I do not know the Brother personally, I've only seen him on YT. The old ways is loving each other, but loving YAH first. We will rise! *I Love My People!*
Brought tears to my eyes, literally. I have always said this it the type of life I want but I haven’t seen it until today. My son always says I’m crazy but when I was in 4th grade I begged for a pair of cowboy boots and I wore them all the time!!!!
My daughter was the same as a child I always talked about my garden and riding she got her first pair of cowboy boots at age 5 and it was the only shoe she wore even with dresses up until middle school! Then she changed but man to be able to live this life..... Blessed!
Every one of these ladies needs to pick up their phones, record what they do for and with their horses, record their competitions and post to youtube. Let others see their fire for what they do. Don't worry about the color of their skin, just do it. You have to compete in the mainstream rodeo's in order to go on to the big ones.
My granddaughter is a black cowgirl. She met the Michigan Rodeo queen at a show in Ohio. My granddaughter is 15 and a very good barrel racer, she ran a 18 second barrel pattern and was so excited. She placed 2nd in 4 d barrels. I'm glad to see more black women into the sport
I definitely think the title should be titled Black Cowgirls. This whole “inclusive” tip people on is annoying almost like folks are scared to say black. They’re black women doing amazing things in their own right.
WORD! If there were only non-Black/African American women (like Native Americans, Japanese...) it would understandable... This poc BS needs to stop. James Brown said it decades ago..."Say it Loud"... I mean...there's a show called Black-ish. "ISH". In feng shui, Black is a power color, universally, it is also VERY elegant (think black tie & The Black & White Ball), professional, high end (black label). It's time to stop trying coddle others who may be uncomfortable hearing the truth. Black is BEAUTIFUL. And I a forever grateful to Malcolm X for his love, care and integrity - his deep love and support of his people. I digress... Anyway, there are Jewish community centers, Chinatowns, Little Italys, etc. all over the United States and these beautiful Black American women can't use/don't want to be called Black Cowgirls? There are The Black Cowboys (African Americans) And we LOVE them! They, too, are BEAUTIFUL. Much Love & RESPECT to you, Kenn. ♥️
I always apologized to my animals. My mother thought i was crazy when i apologized to my dog for stepping on him. My horses were actually someone else's horses i took care of. They got hugs, spankings, treats and apologies from me. I miss my old man. The horse that is.
Horses have such a great ability to understand things than most people ever give them credit for. They have far better memories than people do. They are constantly looking for things in their environment that are out of place. They so often mirror the confidence and leadership of their rider / handler. As a prey animal, It is a horse’s job to take in information; to be observant, to be sensitive to their surroundings. I often ask students when they start lunge a horse; now how will you talk with this horse so it knows you are talking to it. This simplistic of concepts is so often taken for granted.
@@lindaliestman4397 Is your school in So Calif? I desperately want to bond with a horse. They're so majestic I can imagine every care in the world goes away when you're ridin🤗
@Kema Lindsey im in Australia mate, not so much in the cities but out in the country plenty have horses, the indigenous fellas are master stockmen at stations the size of some of your major cities.
Yes, I wanna see more of this!! I am a Black cowgirl too and ALL the time people are surprised by that. It’s upsetting, but I love the opportunity to educate them that yes, Black people ride too, and we have been for years and years. I hate that so many African Americans are brainwashed into thinking Black people don’t do this.. or don’t do that.. just because it’s not in the mainstream media. I’m now training to compete in barrel racing (starting a YT channel for that soon!) and one of my favorite groups to watch are the @ComptonCowboys who I support for what they’re doing in the Black community, particularly with the youth in Southern California. Glad I have the Cowgirls of Color to look up to now too :)
wow sistas you all are truly amazing and it is so wonderful to see you all representing black women in such a positive, beautiful light. thank you all so much.
Thank you for creating this video!! Color needs to be recognized. We're not blind people, we notice black women n men haven't been given recognition to being a cowboy or girl. All I've ever known is white cowboys n girls...Clint Eastwood I'm so grateful to have clicked on this video. Thanks for sharing!! Please continue.💕💕💕
All you have to do is enter up. I knew a guy who duct taped his fractured pelvis together so he could ride saddle broncs. If you have that kind of determination, you can win.
Dan W I’m a supporter. I love to see these women and men ride. I just notice that blacks riding doesn’t get the media coverage that they should. There’s people that don’t know there’s a high number of blacks that ride. It’s new info to many.
@@kingznqueenztv I'm a supporter of good horsemanship and I don't care what color anyone is. First, show up. Second work hard. Everyone has to do those things to succeed. Turn yourself into a roll model for others to follow but their colors don't matter either. Everyone's character is what is important. There is no doubt some people will have to work harder than others. For example, I'm dyslexic. It took me quite a while to type this reply out but I did it. Makes it hard to fit into the information age or understand how to use a computer.
Sooo, inspiring being a women of color ! I came across this video while watching RU-vid. I literally had tears in my eyes because I saw me. I live in the city but has always had a passion for horses and would love to live this life. It would be a dream come true. You girls have just inspired me even more of becoming, riding and owning one of these beautiful animals someday. So glad you guys are riding. God Bless You All ! Keep it up !
T Been don't leave it too late, for me it is just didnt get the support I needed. You go for it don't look back. Its my biggest regret not going with my heart. Love horses so much, being near them.
Its really nice to see that there are more African Americans in general riding. I grew up rodeoing and competing constantly and the racism I endured really took a toll on my confidence and wellbeing. Its nice that people 'dont see color' but the reality is a lot of people 'do' and treated me horribly because of it. I once shook a fellow girls hand and she wiped her hands on her jeans like I was dirt. Its not racist to want to have more people like you around, especially in a field where your group is sparse....its comforting. The cowboys of color was created because there was a time where we weren't allowed to go to regular rodeos as it was illegal due to segregation. Even afterwards we werent necessarily 'welcome'. So dont get offended when I say I LOVE to see black cowgirls in my reccomend. This hugs my soul!
I grew up on the rodeo scene in Fort Madison, Iowa. I got pregnant at 18, 2nd baby at 20. I have so much guilt not raising them on horseback. I love what you ladies are doing. You definitely are living my dream ❤️
I've just ran across this video ladies. I bow to you, i tip my hat to you, and i thank you deeply. This reinforces my hope in my women because I've searched so much for my women who has understanding to share and understand we can't live like movie stars and struggle at same to damn time. This is proff to me all is not lost even if i never find my Queen. Thank you ladies for this video, you have no idea how much this means to see you all doing this. I also hope that by my words you will keep going and never never give up. I will be watching and giving any support i can. You go gils.
OMG this is FABULOUS and i never knew that this existed. Black women horse riders united like this. This is so beautiful to see and i am so proud of all of them 🙌🙌🙌🙌...subbed
I love to see women uplifting and inspiring each other. Wow! They are inspiring their community and shaping the minds of the youths positively and confidently to believe in themselves. Brilliant ladies, love you all.
I agree, love seeing Positive images of Blacks! And There are Many! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 Sometimes when you don't have a seat at the table, YOU GOTTA CREATE YOUR OWN TABLE and There's Nothing Wrong With THAT! Each One Teach One! Great Job Ladies! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I loved this video. I love horses, don’t own one,but I love those beautiful animals. I love seeing my people do things. You are right, our people were the original cowboys. But like everything else, it’s a stolen hidden history.
@ yes, you speak the truth, from history. Cowboy is the english name. Really really enjoyed this video of these beautiful women - they are strong and such a fantastic example for all women of determination and grit.
Love to see how animals have no preferences for color race i would love to see a bunch of us who ride get together and help each other instead of criticizing god bless 🙌🏽🙌🏽the sun shines for everyone.
Oh my gosh my beautiful sistas im so glad I came across this video😁 I dont know how to ride a horse yet been looking for lesson but at heart im a cow girl im working on getting a farm so i can grow food and raise animals my entire family think im weird because I want to live a cowgirl life style if you dont mind me asking what area are you guys in
Fantastic story, ladies! Pennie!!! Great job and congratulations! It's important work you all are doing (regardless of what the idiots are saying I the comments because they know nothing about DC's inner city...) Great stuff!! (PS that Southeast shirt is DOPE!! lol)
Glad to see fellow black equestrian queens for ONCE! It's crazy how we still go so unnoticed in the equine industry, as if we don't share/ attain those types of aspirations like all other dominant demographics. With that, demographics aren't traced in the equine world across the board. So, along with a lack of demographical statistics, knowledge of how to involve oneself in the industry on a budget (if need be), general access, and relatable role models, it's no one wonder that the black community does not internally push this sport/ lifestyle. These ladies should post more RU-vid content so we can follow each of their journeys and so they can be continuous examples to black folk in particular!
So glad Denzel Washington did Magnificent Seven. Brought back the truth of who the original cowboys were. Props to these girls for maintaining the legacy.
Great article and video. Thanks HF!!! This is awesome! Keep it country, and I LOVE horses and riding, fishing and the laid back life in the south!!!! Love seeing Cowgirls, of any race, going back to the basics. Keep inspiring, and opening minds of people all over the world!!!
Wow it is so great to see these ladies going back to their roots as copper colored indigenous people. And by far the real original cowboy and cowgirls hidden the so called American history!
Wow the courage of you ladies so proud of you .I'm native American Indian I used to own horses donated to a ranch that teaches disabled children how to ride . I know you ladies will go far keep it up
Being a cowgirl or cowboy is a way of life don't matter what color you are. One of the best cowboys of all times was bill pickett he's in the rodeo hall of fame he Inspired people of all colors.
Keep inspiring , yall are beautiful inside and out . The kids today need to know about this and learn these skills before this way of life is forgotten !
Here in Texas I have seen many black cowboys. I am in Cowtown Texas, and I can honestly say these are the first black cowgirls I have seen. I hope to see them in Fort Worth's Cowgirl Museum one day!
I’m so impressed with you ladies!! I grew up around horses on our family farm in Belize Central America, I loved it… wish I could ride with you ladies.
Old white gal here. Loved my horses and all that would ride with me when I was young. Did the rodeo when I was young and only 1 chocolate gal participated then ,1960s. But plenty of chocolate men did. What fun!! Thank you for sharing your story. Be safe and thank you again for the memories 🐴
This interview was well appreciated. I especially love what they said about pushing on even when the world is telling you that it is not for you. When u hear "no" a million times you can get to the point where you dont even want to try anymore but that reminder that you never give up is necessary. Humans are exhausting! Its nice to see the fruits of someone that understands and felt just like you but still overcame!
This is an awesome video. Too many people look for anything to divide us. We need to focus on reasons to grow together! You ladies keep on and don't let haters get you down 💯. Haters are gonna hate. I am into sportbikes and stunts. I know several ladies who put is fellas to shame.
I’m a black woman ad I LOVE HORSES. if I could I’d own a stable and 10 horses. I’m too late in the game. Had back surgery so it’s a wrap for me with riding. But I love what you ladies are doing, keep it up! I plan to take my granddaughters horse back riding ASAP.
You 4 rock!!!! I wish I lived closer to join you. I was 15 before I had ever seen another black rider! I was amazed, I am from Minnesota and you just never saw that. I wish I lived close to you so we could all ride together. Keep on doing great things lady's!
Soooooo glad I saw this! I feel more encouraged to become what I've always wanted as a black girl.. I've always felt like I can't do certain things just because of the color of my skin.. this made me feel a lot better about myself. I've always wanted to Ride horses
I feel as if "women of color" is not only going back in time, but also problematic in the sense that African Americans face a very specific form of oppression, that isn't present with any other group of people. So just black women would be a more suitable and honest title.
Playfulpanthress But he's right. "Women of color" is too encompassing. There are some issues that we as Black women face that other women don't. I feel like the terms "women/people of color" are too inclusive; the only thing these groups of people that you mentioned have in common is that they are not white. It makes it seem as if all these groups have the same issues affecting their communities when our experiences are different.
I agree, people are scared to say black and now in turn want to use “of color” to include people that are not black and don’t fave black struggles because they are unique to black people. I wish people would catch on to their own erasure, just because they make it sound nice doesn’t mean it is. LOL it’s almost comical that we’ve co-signed to it.
Playfulpanthress no that’s the hill your all inclusive self and many other black folks will die on tho. Including everyone while other groups of marginalized people don’t even show up for us when it’s needed and they have did this time in and time out throughout history. We do not share the same struggle and don’t face the same prejudice. There are books written on this and yet here we are...LOL comical. Everyone wants black people to mule for them but won’t show the same support. Remember that.
JustKenn I didn't even bother responding after that person wrote the comment about "killing me on that hill." That alone indicates (at least to me) that this person is not wrapped too tightly. By the way I agree with you 100%.
Playfulpanthress I don’t need other groups to back me up and I do not expect it which is why again the title should not be inclusive. Fight and die by what you believe in I could not care any more than I do now and that’s not at all. I said what I SAID and you are entitled to your wrong personal opinion. I stand by and for black people and black advancement. Including people in on what is ours has gotten us nowhere and has severely disenfranchised us as a people here in America. Every other group gets to be exclusive but we have to share our culture? I think not. Have a great week, I’m done speaking with you.
This is so beautiful I love horses I was supposed to start learning how to ride these beautiful creatures before covid. But I will one day and one day I will own one.
Wonderful to see you all doing your thing and it’s encouraging the young generation. Keep up the good work and decathlon and please get in touch with me I like to meet you all and help out and any way that I can.
Why does the colour of our skin matter? Just enjoy your love of horses and horsemanship/horsewomanship. I'm really done with silly prejudice of colour, sex, financial status, education, etc. Just do what you love. Great to see you ladies enjoying horses. They're awesome companions.
I think you are awesome. I admire your dedication to horses and working with horses to set an example to people in your community! I'm glad you don't take horse riding for granted. I did take horse riding for granted and I still miss it. That's awesome what you stand for. Stay in the saddle and don't quit, quit riding and I now regret it. Keep doing what you do.
BEAUTIFUL! I LOVED IT. I would love for this opportunity to be brought to all the inner city schools and community centers. There is such limited exposures and opportunities brought to these neighborhoods.
You know the only thing I'm replying to is my treat something so special that you got to go ahead and feel that someone stepping on your toes I don't step on them romance ghost
I know who I'm talking to you see me before Nisan you and I keep myself quiet so why not do that and not make a big situation or naked you know somebody I was going to say something you never sad cuz I wanted you to be
Black cowgirl and hunter here. Loved seeing this. Only one out here in my area. Been thinking about how I can help educate women black women about both.
The way I see it, if you're born with the heart, soul and spirit of the cowboy, then be proud that you were born with a special gift. And a lot of people from every different walk of life have this gift. It doesn't matter what your ethnic background is. Black, white, Asian, Latino or what have you.. if you love wearing the hat and boots, love riding horses or you compete in rodeos, or you just like to show off your western spirit.. don't be ashamed of that. So it's not surprising to see women of color who've been blessed with this special gift.
Love this ladies! Only thing that I disagree with is YOU are the only ones separating yourselves! Take away the "color" and you're nothing more, nothing less than a beautiful, giving, fearless, loving equestrian ❤️❤️❤️
Everything about this video is awesome. Like they said, you don't see many black women on the rodeo circuit, so it is really cool to see a black woman who is so confident about proving people wrong and who want to show kids no matter what color or gender you are, you can do anything. YOU GO GIRLS!!!!
Every time I look at a horse I get a flash back of the excruciating pain and saw stars when kicked for touching a horse's tail. "ouch" I was 12 yrs old I didn't know better. I never went near a horse again.
