Peter Jackson (yes, THAT Perter Jackson) made Avenue Q before Avenue Q was a thing, and sadly, it's often overlooked by audiences. Let's take a look at what makes this raunchy tragic comedy work so well. www.patreon.com/user?u=10590724
I felt bad for Harry. Dude genuinely loved his job entertaining people and then got sick and believed he was going to die. Got harassed by a TMZ reporter posing as a fly puppet and still went on stage because he didn't want to disappoint his fans. Then right when he discovered he was going to live he got gunned down.
Gonna add the fact that Heidi was 16 when she met bletch she was groomed and made to believe she was gonna be famous and have good connections if she went with this man, this went on for years Honestly this is also something that was kind of missed on here too, bletch has an underground porn production going on and wants daisy replaced with someone young and petite 😕 because she's not making any money for him anymore, but this is such a contrast when he is replacing someone who is the reason the show is getting a syndicated series with someone nobody even knows about because she's young and petite This is literally what Hollywood does to their actors
@@matthewfranks2198 just got a voice message from my grandma's twin sister my auntie you read the message she left me and her voice sound exactly like my grandma I seriously lost my mind and I have not stopped crying and I got to go to work she said a couple things that my grandma always said to me when she called especially when he says I'll talk to you later I love you heart heart heart heart and what makes it worse is she's calling me from my grandma's cell phone when I check my phone and the picture of her inhaler smiling at each other pop up that threw me off so bad I'm still crying
I’m glad more people love this movie. I have been developing a sequel series to continue the original and so far I have gotten it mostly written and am gathering a voice cast together to make it into an audiobook. It will be starting soon and if you guys want to see it when it comes out, here’s the channel link where it will be uploaded: ru-vid.com/show-UCDOIkqHEYKkSuCvT0MPeu1Q
@@cellblocknine5385 the first few chapters have been almost done, I’ve just had to leave it to the remaining parties which have been my audio mixer and my music composer
This movie is what Happy Time Murders aimed for but missed by a huge huge margin. Yes they both have raunchy and shock humor with both kinda doing the concept of "what if the JH muppets were like this off screen." But MtF and even avenue Q are better at understanding that the puppets are just a medium of telling any type of story (hell JH muppets do just that) vs the idea that puppets are a medium attached solely to kids entertainment so they have to constantly stop to remind you that they are puppets cleverly subverting that misconception. They don't believe the audience is smart enough to get that and just enjoy them be it a serious story or parody. This is an issue with a lot of adult animation... Well at least one of the issues.
I weirdly love this movie and it's one of my guilt pleasure movies. I remember seeing an article a few years ago of Peter Jackson saying that he was planning release his early films on 4k so hopefully we'll get a higher quality version of this film in the future! I love the themes in this movie as someone who enjoys movies about the entertainment industry and did theatre in high school and the conflict of what happens to someone's passion and career in a constantly changing industry.

I watched it on my projector and that's perfect for how to watch this movie. I have such an appreciation for older quality as I am so picky about how things don't feel natural with such high quality movies/shows. When their skin looks off putting. I LOVE this movie. The Muppets and Fraggle Rock, I still watch for my burn out days.. I am Neurodivergent and they are shows I grew up with. So I keep Disney + just for Muppets whenever I want to see an episode.
The Feebles are technically canon to the Muppets now according to The Muppets Mayhem. Now all we need is Avenue Q and the MCU (Muppets Cinematic Universe), would be complete.
Just remember, this movie was filmed in New Zealand (somewhere between the 80's and 90s). As a New Zealander, I even have difficulty to find some of my own nation's movies in good quality of that era. Has anyone seen Sir Peter Jackson's "Bad Taste"?
Meet The Feebles is my go to Peter Jackson film. I paid a hefty VHS price back in the day for this. It was worth it. If you do go in knowing something about this movie, you still walk away feeling shock. Thank you for not spoiling The Guppy Audition. Nor did you show Heidi ripping off HER BLOUSE. I loaned this movie to a Mexican guy and I told him he would have problems understanding some of the accents. I was correct. The doctor sounds like Paul Lynde and the drug addict sounds like Christopher Lloyd.
An adult puppet movie about jerks... That's FULLY AWARE that the characters are jerks?! Wow. WOW! That's pretty much unheard of in Modern Hollywood or Modern Western Adult Animation/Puppetry! I need to watch this movie one day because it sounds like a breath of fresh air compared to what western Hollywood gives us in the present.
Peter Jackson has said before that he wants to do a proper set for all of his old movies. Like make a big box set with all 3 movies that would include this one, Bad Taste & Braindead. And having them in the best quality possible(maybe 4K even, but I doubt that) and with loads of extras(since he loves doing big extra packs for his movies). I hope this will be done in the future, cause I'd pre-order that shit in a flash!!!!
hopefully peter jackson can one day find the original film reel and restore it to it's original glory. he has proven himself to be a master at film restoration if "they shall not grow old" or "the beatles get back" are anything to go by.
Peter Jackson has talked about releasing 4k version of Meet the Feebles, Braindead/Dead Alive and Bad Taste in 2018, but the last time he talked about it was in 2021 so we never know when/if that ever happens.
The sodomy scene is so beautiful from a writer’s perspective and in general, The way the fox sings it beautifully while Heidi guns down everyone which syncs to said song. And the song’s lyrics fit tremendously with the film’s theming making it a perfect climax to Heidi’s deranged arc
And also because even after Sodomy is over the melody of the rest of the massacre still follows it. And I'm not sure if that's to keep the flow going or if because the Feebles are being well "sodomied" themselves.
Malena Kaloustian hey I see you have heard of this film, if you have enjoyed it as some others have including myself, I can send you a book I’ve been working on that acts as a sequel story to the movie 😊
I think of this film as the Muppet Show if it was made by John Waters. It’s shocking, outrageous, and insulting, but depending on who you ask, they may or may not love every minute of it.
Dude: I'd LOVE to see a remaster! Me knowing what Hollywood will do to this: 🎵He's got your number now, he knows just what you've done! You've got no place to hiiide, you have nowhere to run!🎵
I began a marathon of Peter Jackson's movies a few days ago and I almost ignored this one. I was like: "ahn, I don't know, a parody of Muppets? It looks very cheap and amateur" Boy, was I wrong! Meet The Feebles is probably my favorite movie of him after LOTR and The Hobbit.
The elephant and the chicken being "a pair" and spawning a hybrid abomination is probably a reference to Gonzo and Camilla. 0:40 More like "sex, drugs, and show tunes." 5:01 "Ravage," not "ravish." 7:01 Basically similar to Jabba the Hutt. 10:45 An M-60, aka "the gun of Rambo." 20:23 Or Street Trash, Bad Channels, Freaked, Nothing but Trouble, and Killer Klowns from Outer Space.
Me and my friend watch this once a year while getting drunk. We enjoy it purely because of its idiot humor and pointless bullshittery, and every year, this movie delivers.
I learned about this movie from a screaming soup video.i got interested about it.i then went and looked it up and found the fan restoration on youtube.i didn't know there was a DVD release.
@@Imaginamisuperfun go for it man! Don't let anyone stop you because if you trully wanna do it I say you should go for it, don't this to these comments because there just assholes behind a screen. Don't get me wrong puppetry is difficult but that doesn't mean ypu shouldn't try, and If it's not for you that's fine ^^
Meet the Feebles was originally funded by japanese to be part of some comedy tv show. It explains why the plot is how it is and why there's so many subplots.
I normally despise gross-out humor because it's just so...Pointless. It's cheap and just there for shock. But this movie spends an inordinate amount of time building up to a rabbit vomiting in front of a live audience, it makes it the climax of one long joke. I think that kind of gross-out humor can be good if there's a proper lead-in to it. Weirdly enough, I like the porno scenes because for one, it shows more of the darker side of Bletch's operations, and two...It just appeals to my sick sense of humor, I can't help it. I just can't help but laugh at puppets making a bondage porno. Though my absolute favorite thing in the movie is the Vietnam flashbacks and just everything involving Wynyard, the voice actor has fantastic comedic delivery.
I like the cinematography of MTF. It's like a puppet show that actually takes place in those dusty and ugly places behind the scenes of a theater, instead of on the stage. If you go to old theaters, they're creepy and dark.
I just finished watching it after hearing about the mention in the new muppets tv series on disney plus. I hope we get a rerelease of it at some point because I loved it.
I don't have a DVD player now to check, but I seem to remember that the R2 copy I have is better quality, probably a Laserdisc transfer. And according to Discogs there's a 1991 release of the soundtrack on CD, don't know about the quality of it though. In 2018 Peter Jackson was talking about releasing his earlier films on 4k Blu-Ray, but there hasn't been a word about it since 2021.
“Secretly”. No. It is a humanizing look at people society deems irredeemable, such as Robert with his social awkwardness, drug addiction, homosexuality, rape survivors, and the biggest one out of the bunch, mass shooters. You sympathize with each of the characters, and get insight into what real people in real life feel and are motivated by.
@@mediamementosofficial yes! This film is ultimately more relevant today with the demonization of mental illnesses and trauma that leads to mass shootings
I always thought that the point of the drug dealing in the movie was to insinuate that drug addiction could be used to tie talent to their company and may even supply the drugs.
Not related to the movie (I watched and liked, then hated and then LIKED the movie, pretty interesting watch!) but what's the name of the background song in 11:03? I DESPERATELY need to know the name of this song!!! Its so beautiful.
About three months ago there was (and probably still is of this comment) a high quality (4k) upload of this movie and my curiosity got the best out of me. Safe to say I don’t think I want to see it again, it’s not a bad thing but it does feel like something that is best seen once in my view. I honestly feel really awful for Heidi, it really shows how manipulation and toxic relationships in general can destroy someone. The fact that she nearly tried to end her own life and even start a massacre is actually really heartbreaking. This is a pretty solid movie, but I doubt I want to see it again like I said. It’s really not for me, but it does have an interesting and really real story to tell. I’m certain people will be just as shocked as I was to know this is the same director behind Lord of the Rings.
Unlike Beastars (that's just kinda adult, focused and grounded), Feebles is straight up mean-spirited, grossout/shocking, and nothing else... like filmed on crack
I watched it on RU-vid and it’s a great film. I think my favourite characters are Arthur and Heidi. I might be missing something but there’s still something so wholesome about Arthur with him helping Robert and Lucille get together. And I’m not saying that Heidi’s actions in the ending are morally correct (not spoiling) but honestly you go girl!!!!! Stand up for yourself!!!!!
this movie was dark. dark af and it was messed up. pretty f-ed up we coudn't just have the muppets without someone making a twisted joke on it... but here we are.. but that's just imo
Meet the Feebles is the worst of Peter Jackson's first 3 films. It's incredibly crude, which they all were, but it has the least amount of creativity. There's nothing like Derek from Bad Taste going nuts as he loses more and more of his brain, and nothing like the pile of guts that come to life in Dead Alive. It's just "crude thing but puppets." Look the rabbit has AIDS, that's funny because he's a puppet. Look the hippo is committing mass murder, that's funny because she's a puppet. Look the fox is singing about anal sex, that's funny because he's a puppet. Look the frog is in Vietnam, that's funny because he's a puppet. Once you look beyond the puppets, there's just a bunch of shallow show business clichés. I don't really understand how you can watch a man in a hippo costume with huge tits gunning down other cutesy puppets with comical violence while a goofy song about sodomy plays and think "damn... so tragic what showbiz can do to people." In a way, taking the movie seriously turns it into a mockery of the issues, not an analysis of them. It's a comedy, it's nothing more, and it's not a very good one.
Is this why you were mad in the other comment? I personally liked the movie. Doesn’t mean it aged well at ALL. I’m not here to defend any problematic content in the movie though.
Although I think this was supposed to be mocking of stereotypes at the time especially the AIDS epidemic, gay people and how they are typically portrayed, and mass shootings.
