Meeting a Aye Aye is on my bucket list. I wasn't allowed printer privilege at home as a kid because I would print out pics of interesting looking animals to hang on my wall and my Mum started having nightmares featuring the weirder looking ones
My youngest son’s favorite animal was a pangolin . His kindergarten teacher had never heard of one and thought he made it up. And for the life of me I couldn’t think of spiny anteater for any reason!
I don't know how accessible this option is, but Duke University's Lemur Center has some and they have a tour season. They're not gonna let you hold them, but I think it would count as meeting some.
Okay, as a fellow biology major I knew a lot of shit about the Aye Aye but I did not realize how far they stuck their fingers down their nose. They've really been out here giving themselves Covid tests for fun.
"When this gremlin goes for groceries, it taps on trees like a Jehova's Witness going door to door" This man always impresses me with how clever he is with his scripts
This guy has me in tears of laughter. And he's a beautiful person. He says'you can send me money, but please don't if you don't have much cos i'm doing alright'. What a man. And he's way too wise for his age. Love him and his animal facts.
I'd say the Aye Aye isn't fashionably cute, but naturally adorable - while it looks bizarre and creepy, it has the typical mannerisms that many of us find soothing in a small animal. Kinda like a newborn human baby.
Why are we allowing this to happen it's because of the irresponsible politics of hate promoted by Donald Trump and other nationalist and right wing conservative organizations, that some creators in order to preserve themselves are forced to attack and harass their own fandoms in attempt at curving their own influence that starts to threaten the right wing conservative media outlets.
I'm actually offset by most monkeys they seem unpredictable and prone to violence or greed regardless of training but they do seem more caring and approachable than most. I'll still never trust any potentially threatening animal with my life or to be alone with my kids if I have them other than dog's and rat's though.
I "adopted" an Aye Aye named Agatha through Duke University's Lemur Center. They aren't really as ugly as the worst pictures show, those are just wild nocturnal animals likely startled by the bright light. All the pictures I got of Agatha were cute as heck, and I suspect that's because she was chill instead of scared.
The Cincinnati zoo has aye ayes, and i genuinely think they're super cute in real life. I can only guess is they're not at all photogenic, very much like most of us!
Googled "aye aye lemur cute" and I agree now; framing them in the dead of night with a football stadium spotlight type of flash certainly did them dirty.
Not only do you share my passion for wildlife I can tell by your music choice that you have incredible taste in video games. Zelda Wind Waker, Luigis Mansion 3, Hollow Knight, and Runescape. Fantastic!
@@peggedyourdad9560 hollow knight ost is so amazing. my favourite songs are the ones in greenpath and city of tears, especially marissa's singing. the whole game is gorgeous :,))
just because you don't see people screaming his wordplay skills from top of the rooftops every second doesn't mean we're sleeping on him being a poet. his 3.1 mil sub count speaks louder to his skills than any comment every could.
Meanwhile in Pokémon Scarlet/Violet, the aye-aye served as inspiration for Grafaiai, the first Poison/Normal dual-type! It uses its poisonous saliva to draw colorful patterns on trees, not only to mark its territory but also to attract Bug-types with its sweet scent. The painted forest of the Grafaiai in the North Province of Paldea is actually a reference to a real forest in Spain's Basque Country called the Oma forest. Painted in the 80s by Basque sculptor and painter Agustín Ibarrola. It is part of the Land Art movement. He was inspired by the cave art in the nearby Santimamiñe caves, and he wanted to paint on natural structures with the same technique that cave people used to paint on natural rock formations.
Fun animal fact; The patu digua is thought to be this smallest spider in the world at just 0.37 mm. This Colombian spider is about one fifth the size of the head of a pin
I have tiny spiders in my home that are about 1 - 3 mm long. I thought they were tiny! You can hardly see them. I can imagine their food species are even smaller!
I remember the very first time I saw the Aye-Aye on tv. It was in an episode of the Wild Thornberrys. I learned that the Malagasy people see it as a symbol of misfortune. I felt pretty sorry for the Aye-aye Eliza got to talk with. He was just very confused and sleepy (since he is nocturnal and it was during the day). Luckily she, Darwin and Donnie brought him back home
@@mrgodzillaraptors8632 This might just be me bragging, but I actually met the Wild Kratts in person once. Best day of my life. Also Casual. Geographic is just as cool as the Wild Kratts
The tarsier is named for its elongated "tarsus" or ankle bone. Although tarsiers were once more widespread, all of its species living today are found in Maritime Southeast Asia, specifically the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei. The most famous of the tarsiers is the Philippine tarsier, who are popular with tourists and are sought out as pets or sold for trade, despite its low survival rate outside of their natural habitat with living just up to 12 years in captivity to 24 years in the wild. Previously all living tarsiers had been placed in the genus Tarsius, but a 2010 taxonomic revision placed Philippine tarsiers in their own genus called Carlito (named after conservationist Carlito Pizarras). Horsfield's tarsiers from Borneo and Sumatra are also in their own genus called Cephalopachus
Random Fact: In the all Hail King Julian tv show, Maurice’s backstory is that he wasn’t ugly so he was supposed to be sacrificed. The other aye-ayes look more accurate to their real appearance.
Hard to say if Dreamworks did Maurice wrong by changing a few features or saving parents from explaining why that one lemur has some long middle fingers.
In All Hail King Julien more accurate Aye-aye's appeared, and from what i remember, they didn't look that bad (they explained his design with a rare genetic mutation)
I don't remember where exactly I read it, but I remember as a kid reading somewhere that Maurice was based on a sifaka lemur (like Zaboomafoo, but a different species).
in case anyone is wondering, the aye aye at the end is named Fody, which is a little bright red sparrow-like bird found in madagascar! (it's also pronounced foo-dee if you were wondering :))
The Tarsir is also the world's smallest carnivorous mammal. It only eats bugs. It also squeaks loudly when it sees a snake, alerting all other Tarsirs, which join in the cacophony of squeaking till the snake leaves. It's adorable.
I remember watching a documentary that basically made a horror story out of all the animals it talked about and the Aye-aye was in it. It made me paranoid of the lemur ever pointing that finger at me because I was too young to tell fiction from reality and was also terrified of dying lmao Edit: Apparently it was Nat Geo's Creepy Creatures movie
Hilarious commentary as usual. I had a Wildlife Treasury set in the 80s and one of my favorite baseball cards was of the Aye-Aye. I took it for show-and-tell and most of my classmates didn't believe it was real.
When my boyfriend and I went to the Denver zoo, we spent the better part of an hour in the Aye-Aye exhibit. Most other visitors just raced through there since it was so dark and quiet, but getting to be still and having our eyes adjust... that animal was fascinating to watch.
I love the "something God made on a deadline"..... line. Your videos are awesome!! You crack me up, and the content is great. I learn alot ev1ery time I see one.
Thank you for everything that you do, man! I always love tuning into your passion projects and will always show urban support no matter the hardships we all face as a species. Until we meet, keep doing what you’re doing. You’re doin’ great!
I just love how you laid down that Aye-aye description just like Animal Planet's MOST EXTREME did, while still giving it your own twist. Man, I loved that show.
@@tlst94 well, it's literally translated to "Fist of the King of the Worlds." Ken being "Fist" and Kaio being "King", kind of like Hokuto No Ken or "Fist of the North Star". Kai's name is in it because it's his technique lmao.
Your explanation of geographical reasons for evolution was one of the best I've ever heard! Simple to understand, entertaining & hilarious too! I learned a lot and marvel at your descriptions! Bravo! PS - those goats are the most terrifying demonic creatures I've ever seen!
If you want to learn more about this topic, AtlasPro has some great videos about evolution on islands (and a lot of other interesting stuff about biogeography etc.).
Aww I actually think the snub nose monkey is adorable and looks like it's done with everyone's else's bull crap. It looks a little grumpy and I love it. ❤️
Definitely wait patiently for every new episode.. these videos def helped me climbed out my deep depression, so thank you for the content. My first paycheck is going towards joining your Patreon...
"Much like the pug, the Aye-Aye walks a delicate tightrope between being radically ugly and cute as hell." - Ze Frank. I mean, the reason we get creepy pictures of them is because we're disturbing them while they're out in the wild at night by shining bright lights right at them! NO nocturnal creature likes it when you shine a light at them! Aye-ayes who are actually CALM and USED to humans can be adorable! My favorite fact about Aye-Aye's is that less than a thousand years ago, the Giant Aye-Aye (Daubentonia robusta) was around. So now if the people are afraid of this Gremlin, imagine how terrified they would have been of seeing one that's TWO TIMES bigger!
The most unique writing.... hands down....every sentence is so creative yet sounds so natural...all the while maintaining to the cold witty Humour... Love ur videos
Idk how I'm only finding this video now. The Aye-Aye was the first animal I became obsessed with, when I was 6yrs old and I opened an encyclopedia sitting unused in my chaotic, dysfunctional home. Thank you so much for consistently distracting me with knowledge and humor. This is without question one of the best channels on RU-vid!❤
Listening to your use of language is like speed-running an obstacle course, and I LOVE IT. I appreciate how you take the time to give accurate information (e.g. noting images that aren't the exact subject you're talking about) and a well-rounded perspective on every subject. Much respect!
"The aye aye is built like an identity crisis..... hands that would have gotten it burned at the stake in Salem"! You ripped me right out of a bad mood in less than 5 minutes! Love all your videos!
1:33 Matter of fact, the first time scientists saw it they legitimately thought that it was a squirrel that nature tried redrawing strictly for memory💀💀
I loved that last line. "If you look like something GOD made on a deadline." I had to clean my monitor because of the spit take I did all over it. Always stay classy Casual.
I am so happy to have found you on RU-vid! You are, hands down, my number one favorite people on the internet. I can't wait to see each and every video you publish and it literally makes my day. I live on disability and have a low fixed income lifestyle (no pity here!) but if I had the money, I would not only be *on* your Patreon page, I would be the *only patron you need* to keep yourself in a comfortable lifestyle. Thank you for everything you do.
@@The-Seal-Of-Approval even if I watched the commercials, which I don't (I buy the free RU-vid package) my op would still be true. But I believe that you are kindly missing my point. Someone who is fully sponsored *doesn't have to rely on commercials.* He could buy whatever audio/visual equipment he wants in order to use to do his work. With the right equipment and a studio to broadcast from, he could release videos at his own pace and endorse only the goods that he himself uses and, (just so he can continue to make those clever segues for his sponsors) He could be his own man, answer to no one. Heck, he could open his own internet channel and be able to post his content in the clear so his followers could watch him make casual endorsements every now and then on his own server. This man, whose name I sadly can't pronounce (which it seems he's used to!) is exceptionally clever, intelligent and remarkably well-informed *and* well-read from his academic years and he just keeps absorbing more data as an internet authority. Okay, so I went a little crazy with this daydream, but an influencer like this, who doesn't post crazy challenges or spread gossip and news is worth it! That is, he would be if I suddenly found myself flush with cash...
I've finally watched the entire series, start to finish. It was nice seeing your progression, pal. I think I've learned more about animals from you than school ever taught me. Looking forward to the next one
There is NO BETTER animal breakdown channel than this dude right here, not even close🔥. My 8-year-old son now gets all his animal education from this dude. A little bit of a mistake because at least 3 times A-day, every day my son will go, Hey dad, "did you know such and such and that's because of this and that. I really appreciate this channel 🔥👍👏🏼
9:50 -- That properly pressurized blob fish in it's natural environment is actually sorta cute. You'd never guess it turns into 9:42 & 10:14 in the wrong setting.
I remember in fourth grade when we had to do projects on animals. I did the Komodo dragon, because I have always been like that. A buddy of mine did Aye-Ayes, and told us all about what he found. His several months of research is what taught me all I know about them.
If I recall correctly, Michael from Vsauce once noted that the way to get people to learn things is to teach them before they realize they're learning. I feel like you do a similar thing with the science tidbits. If you just told someone that hippos can't really swim because they're all muscle, that's not going to stick with anyone, but that they're so tanky they don't *need* to swim and just adapted to walk underwater? I wouldn't be able to forget that even if I wanted to.
I have a presentation I need to make in my college bio class and the fact that I get to use your videos as references in the presentations makes me very happy. Thank you for making fun and educational animal videos!
Love your channel! I appreciate how you do your research before bringing this information to us. Not only educational but also entertaining. You're such an amazing, intelligent, handsome young man. I wish you the best. Keep these awesome videos coming!
these videos are perfect between the mix of the hollow knight track, the biology facts, and the perfect amount of memes + your jokes, these are great videos (ik that sounded a little cheesy, but it's true)
Just like the Kangaroo name. When Aussie prisoner settlers, and explorers discovered Australia, they saw a Kangaroo. They asked the local natives what the name of the animal was,and they answered,"Kangaroo.",which means,"I DON'T KNOW!"
> "You cant tell me these didn't look like they would hit as a kid" No, see I fully believe you, no joke the grub looked like some kind of massive gummy worm when I was a kid and I am still malding about it to this day
The booger picking and eating is logical. It chews through rotten trees. Rotten trees are hella dusty. And this thing's nose is pressed against said tree, while chomping on the dusty bark, and it still needs to breathe. So its getting its sinuses packed with particles. So it uses its finger as a pipe-cleaner. And animals don't have sinks, and can't afford to let a booger crust up on a grabby thing. So, they clean it like all animals clean stuff.
Props to this man for watching over one-thousand hours of National Geographic, scrolling through the internet for 2000, and reading biology for another 1000.
I could definitely have a good talk about the interesting branches of the Evolutionary Tree. This channel is a blast for cross connecting and understanding the changing behaviors of life
man I don't know if it's just me but the aye aye looks so cute. Plus the frog just gives me the same vibes as dogs with bags and sags, gotta love the rolls man.
I like your new videos You talk a bit slower which is good and you big captions are a huge help. I’m deaf and have some vision problems too and your new format helps me enjoy your videos so much easier. Thank you and I absolutely love your style and fun use of language. You have become one of my favorite channels. I’m also a biology nerd and me and other biology nerds on FB talk about your videos a lot and how much we love them and use some of your more common phrases. Thank you for being you and also thank you for making your videos more accessible to the deaf community
Thank you for always making such amazing animal content! So far I've yet to find any other youtuber who does content like this, and even if they did it could never compete with yours! As a nature lover I have watched any animal documentary I an get my lil paws on...meaning theres no new ones for me. This is like getting to see everything in a new way again, one of the youtubers I impatiently wait for updates from. xD
Youre one of the few that draws multiple lolz from me every episode. Always with such descriptively vivid presentation! Absolutely pure, smooth, golden butter!! More can never be enough!!!
Crazy you mention the lipstick analogy because I remember going to the Buffalo New York zoo and there were two giraffes assuming were a couple. And for someone who's not an expert in that area of anatomy I was surprised to see the Male giraffe as I would say stretch out his toy red lightsaber and I was shocked until they move behind the big building to have privacy
honestly, the aye aye is just the weirdest sort of ugly cute like, they are the reverse of photogenic, but i can't help but smile when watching videos of them- they look so goofy
