I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF INTERVIEWING RYUICHI SAKAMOTO BACK IN 1996. I'M SHARING THIS BROADCAST REPORT I PRODUCED AS A HUMBLE TRIBUTE TO THE LATE COMPOSER AND MUSICIAN. SAKAMOTO IS REMEMBERED FOR HIS PIONEERING ELECTRONIC, AVANT GARDE AND EXPERIMENTAL MUSIC COVERING MANY GENRES. HE PASSED AWAY ON THE 28TH MARCH 2023 AT THE AGE OF 71. RIP.

What an interesting gentleman, and very well done interview. Thank you for posting.

Fantastic video and interview. He sounds like he'd rather be coding than making music when he talks about the internet. This is in 1996 when the internet was in its infancy. Amazing composer. RIP

I love his work and the soundtrack to Mr. Christmas Mr. Lawrence. One of my favorite bands is Japan with David Sylvian and I love the songs they did together! Forbidden colors playing in the background is a favorite 🔥 so fabulous you were able to interview him! Rest in peace! ♥️

Wow. Very cool, RM. It's hilarious how "broadcaster-y" you can get. Nice tool for the toolbox! This was a great profile. Really glad you brought it to RU-vid, if only for the fans out there. I'd never heard of this gentleman before, but this was deeply compelling. Well done😁!

I am a huge fan of Sakamoto's work. I was first introduced to him through his collaborations with Japan and David Sylvian. The breadth of his work, from YMO to his solo work to his film scores, is just amazing. A true Artist. It's still hard to believe he is no longer with us. This was a great interview, thank you for sharing it with us.

It certainly was. To this day I thank my lucky stars for the privilege of meeting and interviewing him. He came across as terribly shy yet so terribly generous. He gave me 4 signed copies of his "1996" cd and complimentary tickets for his "1996" concert tour in Asia. He is missed. Can't believe he is no longer with us.

I had not heard of his death until watching your video. I am shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. Cancer has taken far too many. I have many of his soundtracks . A special talent gone too soon. Thank you for your tribute and sharing that interview. His music will live on.

Thanks for the upload. I knew the Yellow Magic Orchestra - Computer Game as it was a chart hit in the UK when it came out, but first heard his name via the work he did with the band Japan. Riot In Lagos was a Body Popping anthem in my youth :).

I'd seen Merry Xmas Mr Laurence when released, I was in my late teens, great film and was really taken with the soundtrack of Sakamoto and bonus also I was a big Bowie fan back then. I follow a couple of vinyl heads on RU-vid, I think in part for nostalgic purposes, I'd personally stopped with my record collection years ago, perhaps 80 LPs, long ago sold and given away but I so get the vinyl bug and love of music and is great to hear you and others talk about the vinyl world.

I found the film pretty beautifully haunting. Thanks for sharing your experience about vinyl. I am not an audiophile and listen to vinyl for nostalgic reasons and appreciate the album art work, liner notes /back stories of artists and stuff about the record itself. I'm still old school and enjoy listening to cds! Thanks for stopping by and watching.

This is a wonderful tribute to the maestro. Have you heard the recent vinyl compilation release of Ryuichi Sakamoto recordings curated by the Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu? It's called Travesía. It's a fantastic record. Some lesser-known pieces on there, even if you are a longtime Sakamoto fan. A beautiful record to have in the collection. Includes a hauntingly gorgeous remix of the Sakamoto/Alva Noto main theme from Iñárritu's recent film, The Revenant. (Forgive me if you mentioned this record already in any of your other videos, I'm a new subscriber and making my way through your archive.) Thank you for sharing this lovely interview with us. 😊

Oh wow. Thanks so much for sharing all that information with me. I haven't been able to keep up with Sakamoto's latest works so it's great to learn of this. I will definitely check this out. Thank you for stopping by to watch and for your support with your subscription.

YMO's cover of "Tighten Up" blew me away when I first heard it in a dance club circa 1979/80. They performed on Soul Train once, the interview with Don Cornelius was quite bizarre, to say the least ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CT1st0QZPNE.html

Oh my goodness. Cornelius really struggled but made a great effort. Found it all incongruous. "Tighten Up" is one of my fav songs. YMO's version is out of this world. Really fun yet surreal . Love Archie Bell and the Drells . Thanks for the link and commenting.
