This was a topic close to my heart. I would have to say that the RSV-Catholic Edition is my most used version. My favorite is my 500th Anniversary Edition of Luther's original Bible. I also have an early 1900s edition of the German Bible, but as you may know, the German Bible has been revised several times since Luther. I have a Geneva Bible on order. It will be interesting to read the Bible brought with the Pilgrims on the Mayflower. I have many others on my bookcase in my basement. I don't like to leave good Bibles languishing in used bookstores. But I also don't buy any of the modern scholarly editions. I prefer, accurate or not, versions translated by people who actually believed what was written.

I recently switched my preferred Bible translation from ESV to NKJV because it retains more traditional vocabulary from the classic KJV.

Have you read any of Theodore P Letis? Just and Sinner prints a book of his called "The Ecclesiastical Text" which is an interesting read.

@@ColinV03 Interesting. Thank you for bringing this to my attention! I'll look into it. As a Lutheran, I have sympathy for the Textus Receptus since that's what Luther and the reformers also used.

@@Steadfast-Lutheran - as a former Lutheran, I tend to agree with you. I left around the time that the WELS got rid of the 1945 Hymnal and started the widespread use of the NIV. There is a lot to be said about memorization, something we were required to do in Lutheran Schools. Changes interrupt that process, and I believe the constant change is what drives people away from the Church. That is why I eventually became Russian Orthodox and use a combination of Old Catholic and Old Anglican works for my daily prayer. The wording is closer to what I memorized in my youth. My German Bible is the 500 year anniversary edition of Luther's original Bible. I read the old German better than the new.

Thanks a lot for highlighting the Revised English Bible. I wish more was written about it. I grew up reading the NIV as did my generation of bible readers and I really found it helpful for my spiritual growth, but as I've gotten older I've found that the American English Spelling kind of distracts me as a Canadian. So even though I know many NIV fans have moved on to the ESV, I've gravitated to the British English translations like the REB.

Dale i dont know why the orthodox use kjv ,i consider kjv as protestant bible it lacks so much .

Ah, well, it didn't always lack so much. The original editions included the whole ecclesiastical canon, although with the Deuterocanonical Books included in their own section between the Testaments. In 1904 the protestant British and Foreign Bible Society began to print cheap copies without the full canon. It was only in 1885 that official editions were available without the 'Apocrypha'. Although the Old Testament text deviates frequently from the LXX, it is closer than anything else easily available, and the New Testament comes pretty close to the Patriarchal Test. So, it is just about the most Orthodox translation available.
