Wow! 20 years! Well done. My rescued red jungle fowl from Maui is 17 years old. Chickens are intelligent, smell good and are loyal and affectionate. Bird people are special, I think.
Yes, my parents had some chickens and most were kind of normal as you'd expect wanting to be left alone, but one would follow my stepdad around into the garage and elsewhere and repeatedly fly up into his arms for him to hold her.
I had a chicken that lived for 16 years, she was my bestfriend. She was born before me, and she was my first animla companion. Sadly she passed away a few years ago die to a bird flu outbreak. Rest in peace Almond ❤️
hi squiggles have you become a flat earther yet? If not I suggest watch a 13 part series called _What on earth happened_ by Ewaranon to learn that the earth is not a globe. I got it in my about tab.
I know a friend with an 18 year old budgie that can no longer fly but it still walks and still pecks on little seeds given to budgies, sadly it died at the age of 25 after my friends college graduation. My friend's mom said the reason why that budgie lasted that long because she feeds it ivermectin and vitamin injections and antibiotics every week and also energy boosters and scheduled deworming and a large isolated cage next to my friend's room window. They didn't apply for a world record though because they don't know such things exists and it only has one picture in their family when they first bought it. It died on 2009 and to this day that cage is occupied by the budgies offsprings and descendants. She also lays a lot of fertile eggs and had 8 living hatchlings in total. I only saw that bird once but it keeps on making squeak squawks at me because she doesn't like it when I sit on the couch inside my friend's room. It was her couch. That also explains the chicken piss smell emanating from that furniture.
I am so sorry for the sad loss of your precious girl .We have been rescuing Hens for 10 years now and Suzy our oldest will be 10 in August .She has arthritis in her left leg and rests in her bed more now but enjoys her food and treats .She has outlived her most of her friends but still has Lady Di 6 and a half ,Lola and Daisy 4 for company .They adore her. Fly High Grumpy 💚
I didn't realize they could live that long. I had a little bantam hen as a pet when I was a kid and she was the sweetest girl. I trained her to stay on a news paper and she'd sit there and watch TV with me and occasionally even sleep next to me. I loved all the little noises she'd make. Especially when she had a full belly and was so happy to get to relax next to me or on my lap. She loved being held and petted. So much so that her feathers were always in disarray. Sadly the neighbors dog broke through our fence and ate her. I was devistated. She was only 4 so I might have had her for a long time after if that hadn't happened.
I liked this really cute chicken idk what kind, my mom’s aunt had it and I loved to pet her but sadly foxes broke in and ate not only her but all the other chickens :(
Small PSA! When this nice lady says "peeled the shell off of peanut", she probably just put a small hole near the air sac of the egg, if you MUST assist a chick hatching, PLEASE be extremely careful because they have veins and capillaries connecting their bodies to the shell membrane, let the chick do most of the work. Thanks for reading!
If I may add to this comment, I'd advise that the shell membrane can dry and stick to the chick. Don't rip it off. Use a soft small paintbrush, or a clean cotton swab dipped in warm water to moisten the membrane a little at a time, and the chick should be able to do the rest.
@@ratscats9456 me too, that man is an angel on earth for all creatures. I'm happy for him that his channel has grown enough to allow him to help more animals. Watching his content is good for my soul.
Yes you can make them bleed out and die if you peel them out. I had to help a chick but waited until the membrane was dry and all the blood was soaked up by the baby chick
Hey! We have a Millie too! She's also a Mille De Fleur- my son has autism and poultry is his passion. We have 85 birds and counting- fun fact- did you know chickens purr like cats when happy? They can also remember around 150 chicken faces!! Pretty cool pets!!
I knew about the purring, my special girl pushes her way onto my lap and likes to be rocked and sung to, I wasn't sure if she was singing along or trying to drown out my voice, ha, ha!
My boyfriend is getting me chickens next month. He is building the coop and everything. They are my first ever chickens and I hope some of them will just be as happy and healthy as little peanut here ❤
I LOVE my chickens. I had a Black Copper Maran pullet have a rough hatch. She hatched but was stepped on and left for dead by mama hen bc she was chasing all the other babies. We brought the little abandoned chick in and restored her back to life. Now she’s a healthy happy hen starting to lay eggs now!
My orpington hen will turn 11 in two months, she still laid about a dozen eggs last year and although she's had a few health problems over the years, she always comes out strong. I hope I can spend a few more years with her!
My son has 2 8 week old lavender orphington pullets. I hope they have nice long lives. He also has 2 silkies, a polish and a houdan. His children love them already and they're all friendly birds great with the children. The children know how to handle them very well.
I have a golden laced sebright that was rescued when she was a baby the day she hatched her name is Gabby and she's 16 years old and my girl lives inside she's paper trained spoiled rotten and extremely intelligent I think all my other chickens that live outside are jealous of her LOL but she also has outlived her life expectancy by almost double
A Chicken makes a wonderful and smart pet. Had a pet hen as a child. Some of my fondest memories. If pets go to heaven, I’m sure mine will be there and I look forward to our forever reunion ❣️
One example of an odd pet animal that can be affectionate, social, loving, and has a zest for life is a potbellied pig. Potbellied pigs are intelligent, social animals that can form close bonds with their owners and enjoy interaction and play. They have distinct personalities and can be trained to do tricks or even walk on a leash. However, it's important to note that potbellied pigs require a lot of care and attention, including a proper diet and exercise, and can live up to 15 years. It's also important to check local laws and regulations, as some areas may not allow them as pets.
My roller canary lived for 17 years. He was not caged, had a female mate (who laid some eggs which hatched, but we couldn't save the babies). We had a large screened-in porch where they could fly about and converse with the outside birds who used to visit. He went blind and was taken to the vet who ended his life because none of us could do it. He would have made the Guinness Book.
@Halloween All Year Round that’s so so true. The meat industry and even some peoples backyard coops are horrific. Unacceptable for even the worst scum on earth
Birds generally live a lot longer than mammals for their size. I think the chicken age range is hugely skewed by wildly differing kinds of care and uses, as well as by vulnerability to predators. In good safe care I think the average lifespan should be 15-18. Many of my chickens have lived that long. But they need to be stimulated intellectually and socially to live that long. The chickens I spent the most time with, took out in the yard to explore, gave special treats, and played with the most always lived much longer, because they were happier.
Happy birthday Peanut! 🥳🎂🧁 ❤️Lovely little birb❤️🐣🐔 Farm animals are too often neglected and underappreciated. It's always great to see happy, healthy, well-loved animals!
I love my chickens. They are so fun and interesting to watch. We pull up a couple of lawn chairs in the evening and watch chicken tv as they make their way back to the coop aha settle down to sleep.
My neighbor had a pet banty hen that lived on her carport and sat on a shelf in a flower pot. She would scratch around in the yard and then go back to her pot. The shelving had plants and flowers on it so she blended in. She was so old that she grew spurs and started crowing.
We recently lost our 3 chickens to a predator, so seeing this video warmed my heart, and made me feel a little bit better. Chickens are beautiful, magical creatures, and they will always hold a place in my heart❤️
For those who want a long lived small chicken. If you feed them good mixed greens daily, and protein as well as a mix, a pure bred Old English Game Bantam will live 16 - 18 as standard - look after them more and they will live longer. House birds in particular.
I used to have a serama hen. She was more than 5 years old and still lay eggs. One day I moved, I gave her to one of my friends. Few years later I heard my friend said the hen died because of my friend's neglect. I felt sad. If I had kept her, she would live much longer. Serama is extremely easy to take care. They are smart, healthy and live a much longer live than other chicken breed.
Farm animals can live far longer than most people think. Cows can live up to 25 years if given the chance. When they're slaughtered for meat they're still just babies, even when fully grown.
Peanut: 'Hey; Whatcha Doin'?? Millie: 'Just Millin About' 🐔 I WISH ALL AMINALS WERE TREATED THIS WELL 😭 Thank Goddness She Heard Pnut Chirp & Didn't Toss The BRDY Away😭😭
As children we had a chicken for many years. She was so smart. In LA there were many pidgins and she must of thought she was one too because she would fly with them as much and as far as she could. She would peck on the door to be let her out so she could poop then peck on the door to let her in. When she rode in the car and we went under an overpass she would duck, it was so funny
@@sorrystilltrying5062 Yes put a torch against your eggs to check for signs of life before you discard them. If you're not sure what you're looking for there are photos online that show progress from a couple of days until they're about to hatch (usually 21 days). This is only if you have a rooster that could fertilise them.
That chicken has lasted longer than my marriage did. Our aggressive roosters kept flying in our faces and pecking at our eyes so they ended up in the stew pot.
This video made me curious about how long chickens normally live. Upon quick research: 5-10 years. 😐 I was unaware my whole life their lifespans were that short. 😶 This 20-year-old girl is certainly a special one! ✨
I hope my babies get a live a long time too. I have a silky, Partridge Cochin , and a frizzle. (Cheap-cheap, ginger, and tatootles. I got them around the same time may be a month apart. They’re going to be 2 years old in April/May. They live inside, sometimes to, and get all the love and affection they deserve! I just hope mine can live that long too. They came into my life at the perfect time when I was down and depressed and raised him from chicks to the tiny little dinosaurs they are now
