I love the tray of rocks with ramps idea for an indoor setup, means I don't have to be confined to a big plywood table setup, I can just set some stuff down and crawl through it.

@@MelbourneExclusive0 I have 3 SCX24. I don't have a Mini Z yet. They look really really REALLY scale. But I'm not a fan of running AAA batteries. And at 200 dollars I can buy almost 2 Deadbolts. One for me and one for a friend. Don't get me wrong I plan on getting a Mini Z this Christmas when My local shop I've been going to since 1986 brings some in. In the long run get what you like and what you can afford. Keep in mind that you might want to modify it in the future so make sure it has aftermarket support if you want to go that route. And it's important to be able to buy replacement parts if things burn out or break.

For me the clear winner is the Mini-Z 4x4. No upgrades at all, just a simple mod, tiny tires which are not very sticky, ... and seems to have by far best throttle response. The Axial does have huge tires, and expensive upgrade tires and rims... shocks... weights... probably more than 100 bucks in upgrades. Do have the Mini-Z and the RC4WD and love them both, but electronics in the RC4WD 1/18th are horrible, ... D90 is better than Bronco.
@karlsrcvideos2680
@karlsrcvideos2680 3 года назад
Yeah the Mini-Z is so nimble it’s perfect for this kind of course. I was amazed it could get over the parallel bump section because I designed that for the exact width of the SCX24. The only real issues it has is ground clearance from the small tires. The RC4WD was definitely the least elegant on this course between the electronics + drivetrain slop. I find it’s more at home & capable on a dirt/grass course, especially now that I’ve installed larger tires and the Crawlster kit.
@donaldsneffe
@donaldsneffe 3 года назад
@@karlsrcvideos2680 The RC4WD is super heavy, also the body is super heavy with interior, this is for sure a reason for its performance. Still did not upgrade my D90... but will. Should check the weight of the D90 (will do later), I am sure it is at least twice as heavy as the Mini-Z. BTW: If you want a Mini-Z with higher clearance, buy the 4Runner ;) I highly prefer the Suzuki, love it. I made oil-filled shocks for it (out or original shocks), which work awsome. Highly recommended (have a video on my channel about the how to). Love your comparision-videos! But people are so "SCX24 fanboys"... thats what I do not like in the comments, they do not even mention that is has upgrades for probably the same price as the RtR and still tell "SCX24 is best" ;-)

SCX24 for the win. I love mine. Though the D90 would need a ton if work to be as capable, I still kinda want one.
@karlsrcvideos2680
@karlsrcvideos2680 3 года назад
I was a little disappointed with the D90's stock performance on the indoor course, but now that I've had a chance to install some upgrades and take it outside I find the size/weight is actually quite nice for backyard/trail crawling. The handling & articulation can be improved a lot with the Crawlster kit (www.crawlster.de/international/d18-tuningkit/ ) but even with that and a new ESC the weight & drivetrain slop will make it lose to the SCX24 on anything slow/technical.

Trying to decide between kyosho and axial. This video really shows how smooth the kyosho is, also like the idea of AAA batteries. I have enough lipos to deal with!
@karlsrcvideos2680
@karlsrcvideos2680 3 года назад
I love them both - I'd say this kind of technical course is the ideal setting for the Mini-Z. So if you plan mostly crawling indoors/on homemade courses it's great fun but SCX24 definitely better outside in longer grass/dirt etc. I agree with AAA's - when I want a quick drive I usually grab the kyosho just because it's convenient always having a spare set of batteries around.

@@karlsrcvideos2680 it would be for a coarse I make in the basement (good practice for when I build a modle railroad with mountains and trees etc.. the kyosho just looks, well, less toyish, and seems to drive that way as well. Gonna get the new jeep from kyosho in white.

Loving the SCX24 Rubicon and C10 pickup, myself. I just got my hands on a used Gelande II 1/18 from FB marketplace. Should be here within a week or so. Great to see a video comparing both in action. Which one is your personal favorite or do you like them each for their own unique qualities? Thanks!
@karlsrcvideos2680
@karlsrcvideos2680 3 года назад
They all have very different strengths & weaknesses so I love them all :) The SCX24 is probably the most versatile overall - I just picked up a C10 that I'm converting to a rock racer - but the Gelande is more fun outside and the Mini-Z is great for slow/technical crawling.

Which one do you prefer out of the box? I'm still not sure should I get scx24 or mini-z :)
@karlsrcvideos2680
@karlsrcvideos2680 3 года назад
Straight out of the box I’d choose the Mini-Z - though if you spent the price difference on upgrades for the SCX24 it would be the more capable one. It depends whether you see yourself upgrading (and/or just enjoy tinkering) vs keeping it relatively stock. The other main difference is that the Mini-Z is best on indoor courses vs SCX24 can handle dirt/grass much more easily, so consider where you’ll be driving most of the time.

No spacers on the jeep - the RC4WD Rok Lox are just 3mm wider than the stock tires (20mm instead of 17mm). If you like the look the RC4WD Rock Creepers are the widest option at 22mm.

@karlsrcvideos2680

It depends where you're driving but overall I'd say the SCX24 just because of the price, performance, and upgrade options. For exclusively outdoor/trail driving the RC4WD is really fun with its more scale weight and feel. If you were only making an indoor course with books/legos or something the Mini-Z would be my choice because it's so nimble and precise.
