That sound comes from great Subtractive EQ ladies n gents. All the muddy or wooly frequencies around 250k and 400k are stripped out. The groove is dead on too!

He recorded this on a Jackson 4-String tuned lower... Jackson 5-strings didn''t exist at the time

Uses a lot of the mid range. Kind of has a fresh string sound to it as well. Drop D for this song, as well. He also plays a Jackson most of the time.
