Even if other scientists say that Varanus Pricus was an apex predator, it is important to point out that a predatory reptile would have to face constant competition from other predators that lived alongside it such as Thylacines, Quikana, Wonambi, Dynatoaetus, Saltwater crocodiles, and of course Thylacoleo. Amazing work and research hope we could find more fossils of Varanus Priscus so we could complete the fossil puzzle.

Awesome stuff! I always though it was just the bacteria, I feel kind of silly now, but the excitement for the Smilodon has me even sillier!

Yep, it's funny we published this back in 2009, but there are still a lot of scientists who hold on to the dirty mouth theory. I think you really like smiling on video!

I want one!

That would be interesting. 😮Barinosuchus would likely win based on size, but then it wasn't venomous. So might be close!

Varanus Priscus vs Barinasuchus
@RealPaleontology
@RealPaleontology 3 дня назад
That would be interesting. Barinasuchus would definitely bite harder, but then Megalania was venomous....

Komodo tested out to 600 lbs bite force, it knew it wasn’t biting prey, so a big specimen might be closer to a croc, and don’t tell me they’re skulls aren’t almost identical 🙄

Megalania probably closer to a croc in bite force.

It really depends on the size. If both are the same size then the salt water crocodile would win hands down.

They’re bite is not weak. Probably at least as strong as a pit bull or equivalently sized animal. I was bitten by a 7 foot python. It clamped down like a vice! I think your measurements might be off.

For sure a big Megalania would bite harder than any pit bull. But the pitbull is much smaller even a big one.
