Megalodon Shark Tooth Hunting | Fossil Hunting in Florida | Destroyed by WILDKYLE!

This is a little painful for me, folks! We went shark tooth hunting, searching for megalodon teeth and other cool fossils here in Florida, but I was shamed and defeated by Kyle's fossil hunting sorcery. We'll be having a fossil hunting rematch very soon, and we may have to up the stakes next time! I will reclaim my championship belt if it's the last thing I do!

KirstiStephenson , you’re not serious, are you??? Only an idiot would give up their hunting location. You need to go out and find spots in your own, smart people aren’t going to publish that on the internet.

Have you considered a few shark tooth/fossil instructional videos as far as ID goes? It's pretty impressive how you just rapid-fire the names of just about everything that you find. I know that there is a lot of info out there but sometimes it comes down to someone who knows showing you why this tooth must belong to this species. Thanks.

love the videos man, keep up the hunting and enthusiasm. One critique i have is the audio rather bad at moments. Not sure what is causing this but i know its not on my end because any other video i watch from other creators the audio is fine. just seems to be your videos. Dont mean to be a negative just looking to give helpful feedback.
@PaleoCris

+Carter Thomsen I always love constructive criticism, and you're 100% right...during editing this vid, I went and started browsing for external microphones online. I think my hand occasionally covers the mic on the device I record with...shouldn't be a problem in videos I record after this week when I get a mic.

Not necessarily, no. Color isn't an indicator of age, but tells more about the minerals or tannins the tooth was exposed to and absorbed.

When you guys dig in creeks like that how far down do you dig in one spot before moving to the next spot? Is there an ideal depth to find the megs? Do they tend to be really deep down or mostly toward the surface? Also, do you ever dig up clay or is that a waste of time? Thanks!
@PaleoCris
@PaleoCris 5 лет назад
They tend to settle under the sand and small rocks that move during flooding. I dig under the sand and small rocks to a hard gravel layer...if the layer feels right, I will dig there until there is no more gravel left. It takes a little while to learn what the gravel should feel like with a shovel, but once you do, you know what you're looking for.

@PaleoCris
@PaleoCris 5 лет назад
I'm afraid I don't know a lot about that area...The basic technique for finding a spot is the same everywhere, though. Find a geological map of your area, determine a formation that contains fossils you want to find (just Google the formation name you see on the map near you and "fossils"), find a legal access point to that spot, preferably where there is erosion happening (creeks, rivers, road cuts, cliff sides, etc) and check it for the fossils that are supposed to be there. If you get good at reading the maps, you'll be able to predict what kind of fossils you can find in any given location. I plan on making a video on how to do all this in the future if any of this is confusing..

I know a guy digging up a semi petrified/fossile humanoid giant around 24 feet tall. No I am not kidding. The location is North Carolina. If you go to my about section and contact me I can put you in touch with him. He needs help. I show a couple of the teeth samples he sent me on my channel. I also wanted to tell you I fully believe megalodon is real and alive today. I know they can exist given information I have regarding Earth's shape...

None of those are Megalodon . They are great whites if that .
@PaleoCris
@PaleoCris 5 лет назад
If we identified them as megalodon, they are megalodon. The morphology of great white shark teeth is nothing like megalodon. They are more like serrated Cosmopolitodus hastalis (extinct broad tooth mako) teeth. Remember that megalodons had to start off as small pups and grow into the giant beasts with hand size teeth that most people picture when they hear "megalodon". Infant megalodon teeth can be as a small as the nail of your thumb and are identified by the distinct chevron shaped bourlette, boomerang shaped root, thickness, serrations, shape, geological formation and age the tooth was located in, etc.
