A lot of well regarded direct to video sequels didn't have the original cast. Are you gonna call the Kung Fu Panda TV series, which MANY people liked "bad", because it didn't have Jack Black in it? Your logic is just whiny and churlish for no good reason.
@@thenightstar8312 The Megamind 2 trailer has already been analyzed multiple times and is already being considered disappointing by almost everyone. Plus, we're talking about a movie, which would not have to deal with lower budget or quick start to finish dates, but Megamind 2 is animates like a DreamWorks Animation TV series (Not all of them, really just ones closer to the current year) because it is animated by DreamWorks Animation TV, which most people think they peaked at the Penguins of Madagascar show but fell off since
Yeah but this seems like it's more or less a pilot to a spinoff TV series So it's less like Kung Fu Panda 2 and more like... Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness. Or Kung Fu Panda: Paws of Destiny.
not to mention that the tennis balls dont even move forward. thanks to animation perspective, when the next ball is spawned, it makes it look like the balls are moving backwards
It absolutely HATE how they made Megamind an egotistical narcissist. Its basically his only defining trait in the trailer... Which is _awful_ because in the ORIGINAL he wasn't like that. He had a lot more depth, actually being down on himself more often than not, but putting on a show of arrogance when he was winning! His ego stemmed from his desire to impress others and find acceptance, he wasn't just full of himself like your average Hollywood director...
Not only that, but the fact that he had an old crew just spits in the face of the original so hard! His loneliness is what gave his character self doubt, his only friend was Minion! Is there no respect for the OG!?
@@OfficialKirby You seem to think that daying they shouldn't strip his character down to the most bare parts without understanding them is the same as saying that he should have no flaws.
We wanted MegaMind but they’re giving us ColossalCranium! 2:25 To be fair, Cinderella 3 is actually good. Way better than the first one. 6:04 I think Will didn’t come back because he saw how bad the script was. He has denied coming back to movies because of bad scripts.
@@Anchor_ProductionsI mean would if the animation is top notch or better dialogue and better plot because all 3 are bad goes to the trash can literally all 3 stuff I said are bad animation dialogue and the plot is bad
6:50 what's even funnier is that the title (megamind vs. the doom syndicates) was already the name of a megamind videogame. Yep they were that creatively bankrupt.
I think this sequel teaches a very important lesson: it’s better to appreciate what you have than beg for more. And films like TRON: Ares with Jared Leto will probably further that lesson.
This is why every film doesn't need a sequel. It's not because some stories don't need continuations- it's because you can have stuff like this happen.
i don’t know how you could be offensive, she’s just one of thousands of world leaders. They have no personality or heart, they don’t care about anything other than themselves. Big time kings, queens, and presidents, but completely generic at core
I have come forth from the future. The only good thing to come from it was the memes of Schaffrila ranting about “SHOOT! THE! DEE. HYDRATION GUN!!! IT IS THE EASIEST SOLUTION IN THE WHOLE DAMN WORLD!”
Megamind was considered to be a master-class movie between me and my friend. We would always talk and joke about it and praise it as if it were some divine presence. When my friend told me that there was a sequel in the works (trailer hadn't released yet) I was like "oh that's awesome! As long as Will Ferrell is in it and it has actual effort put into it maybe it'll be alright!" ... Then the trailer dropped and we were weeping for hours.
@@theyellowman9271 Around the part where he takes a sniff in Titan's apartment. And given the release date, they directly forced a comparison to Despicable Me even though the movies are NOT targeting the same audience. Marketers _should_ have targeted teenagers/nostalgic adults instead of kids. Edit: I looked for the exact commercial (because it was the one to convince me not to watch MM back in the day) but I cannot find it. I still feel MM would have done better if handled better by the marketing. It's a lovely classic.
Man, halfway through this video and I'm already like, "I definitely don't need to watch any more of this to know that unless rave reviews come out for this movie, we can add it to the massive pile of sequels that were just soulless cash grabs." Mega Mind is one of many amazing movies that is perfect just as it is. It does not need a sequel.
It’s incredible that the OG megamind is 13 years old and the animation quality still holds up against some Disney films from that era …and the animation quality of the sequel is kiiinda trash in comparison
The main reason why we didn’t get a sequel is that it didn’t do well critically on release. It became a cult hit way later. Some critics had even the audacity to call it a despicable me rip off which is funny since megamind was in production earlier.
Wait, wait, wait, hold the phone. You're telling me this is a TV show. And not a movie. When did even notice that and it's on peacock? My news, something was off about this. Where I first saw the trailer. I mean, I don't know if anyone will enjoy it. But that's just hope there are some people that love it
@@zeepsterd OKI mean honestly, I as a teenager. I did enjoy the first one but as an adult. I just stopped watching it. I mean battery thing. I have no idea if I watched the sequel. Because I don't have peacock. But I imagine you'd probably Will watched? I mean, if you do, watch It. Tell me how it is. It's a really good. I mean, come to think of it. It will should be on Netflix for some reason. I don't know why but it feels like it
I always dreamed about a Megamind Sequel for 14 Years, sure it was cautious when I heard it was a TV Series but Last Wish and The Croods a New Age gave me Hope for more Dreamworks Sequel but this isn’t what I wanted, this just feels like they massacred me Blue Boy and my All Time Favorite Movie like 2 Birds in One Stone, these are Darker Times My Friends, Plus this also looks like they took Notes from the Incredibles and Despicable Me, I’m just hoping this was Intentional and Does have Clever Writing.
At best it would of been a direct to streaming movie like how The Bad Guys got there Christmas special for Netflix but outsourcing your animation is a gamble when you go cheap and it sad to see that DreamWorks not only had layoffs but also cut costs despite the fact there own by Universal..however thinking into more of this i personally go for the fact that the failure of Ruby Gilman that had a rippling effect thanks to the Mario Movie and Oppenheimer gave DreamWorks very little marketing budget that would leave this as a flop which left them to l lose alot of money
Ooh. I like Return of Jafar. It at least has continuity in tact and “Homer Simpson” does his best effort to replicate Robin Williams. Most of the cast returned and Jafar even got a banger song. A TV sequel I think is really bad is “Belle’s Magical World” as the characters are out of character, Beast is a total jerk and even says “I WILL NEVER APOLOGISE”!
I would have to disagree on successor series of Dreamworks movies being worse. I mean How to Train your Dragon: Riders of Berks was really good. So was Kung Fu Panda: Legend of Awesomeness and Paws of Destiny. Trolls the beat goes on or maybe Trollstopia I really enjoyed and think is a little underappreciated. All Hail King Julian and the Adventure of Puss in boots I thought, were really good. And if we're talking Disney here then Rapunzel Tangled Adventure or the Big Hero Six series was great.
I feel like maybe they should take the “schaffrillas sequel recipe” route and create a direct sequel where it actually asks and answers about the origins of Megamind and Metro Man and their people, maybe bring in an actual alien as a villain, who may have been the one who brought the black hole that destroy their homeworld. If you guys want, I can create a quick synopsis on this supposed sequel plot
When I get hired to write for Megamind Rules, this is gonna change... And hopefully, so is Keiko. What I have planned when I become a screenwriter for this show is spectacular.
Megamind never needed a sequel, it was a contained story and premise. “What if the super villain won but it turned out he wasn’t such a bad guy after all?” Once the first movie ended that was it. That was the story. I know we all love these characters but they really don’t have many more original stories to tell. If you keep it going it just becomes generic superhero shenanigans because the original premise already wrapped up.
I never knew there was a megamind 2 until recently i just watched the first film and thought thats it and the story felt like its the end it didnt need a sequel
6:43-6:49, I noticed the same thing with another sequel that tried cashing in on the cult following for an underrated animated movie that came out well over a decade earlier with Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue. That movie also spliced in footage from the original movie, reminding us of how much worse the new animation is, watered down any of the elements from the original that appealed to adults to make it just for kids, and retconned ideas like how Nicodemus foretold a prophecy that Timmy, the little boy dying of pneumonia in the first movie, would become a savior for the rats of NIMH even though he did nothing of the sort. I was 5 when it came out and even then I knew I was watching something that wasn't as good as the original since I had the VHS tapes for both films and while I watched the first one repeatedly, the second one was a one-and-done for me and I completely forgot about it until the Nostalgia Critic's review for it years later and I was like "oh yeah, that sucked!"
Replacing voice-actors from the original, dumbing down the budget for animations + outsourcing the animation to overseas, adding a cringe teenage female boss-character, yeah it's shaping up to be a real dumpster-fire. Pass this movie. The original Megamind is FAR superior.
4:29 Yeah, I've found that with a lot of TV CGI animation - they have a very set range of designs, especially in shows aimed at younger kids. I don't know if it's limitations with TV CGI animation or just wanting to stick to what's known to work or what, but it's a disservice to how much variety animation is capable of in the design department.
the problem with blaming it on TV CGI is that streaming services have made it possible to have big budget TV series. Just look at Arcane, a TV show that, in terms of just pure animation quality, is one of the best pieces of animated media I have seen. With a budget of $90 million dollars.
They completely forgot about the first film being that megamind is lonely and that was his entire character arc, however they brought the doom syndicate which are megaminds teammates thus completely getting rid of the sympathy the viewers feel for megaminds loneliness making the first movie useless
it looked and sounded so bad that i thought it was a fake like with the Kevin Temmer Tunes "3rd act of pixar's elemental" thing where people thought it was real, but the opposite
I mean, the core voice cast of this (Keith "2017 Flintheart Glomgold" Ferguson, Laura "Kasumi Yoshizawa" Post and Josh "Rise of the TMNT Donatello" Brener) are legit great voice actors...? This doesn't seem like they're getting A material yet, and the show will probably be a lesser entry in all their catalogues.
I'm just gonna wait until it releases and someone posts it online somewhere because I don't wanna pay for a third streaming service, because despite the fact it doesn't look or sound too appealing, most Dreamworks shows I've watched aren't terribly hot shit, not sure about the movie though, gonna flip a coin on that one.
it would’ve been cooler if it was like he got a message from someone on his home planet that also survived and he takes a trip to see them and the guy that destroyed it finds out and megamind has to defeat him
what digs at me the most is there is something so wrong with megamind’s eyes, eyelids, and eyebrows. Something about it i cant put my finger on that feels so wrong
I figured at this point we'd moved past the "Direct to video" sequels and yet... here we are. The animation looks worse, the lighting and shading is a massive downgrade, and the lack of any of the main cast from the first film all show signs that this was churned out for profit. Big yikes.
This is my idea as to what the sequel should’ve been. Have Titan be the villain again but make him pure evil where he is obsessed with the powers megamind gave him in the first movie and is now trying to get them back. He then gets his powers back and has absolutely no mercy for others. I feel like this should also be a lot darker and more mature
I mean well I'm just watching as a teenager. I thought it was fine but as an adult I just. I don't know I haven't watched the first one in a very long time. It's been a while
One of my favorite parts about the main movie is that megamind doesn’t name his hero Titan, he names him “Tighten”. The first movie has comedy that isn’t right in your face, you have to look for it, and in my opinion, that’s what makes a movie great. This new movie just makes me kind of sad that something so great could turn so bad.
The shot at 2:47 annoys me greatly, because it's so clear they made the tennis balls just pop into existence instead of at least putting them further down the barrel and having them move out. edit: ah, you noticed this too. I am not alone!
Remember how for the sonic movie the internet managed to bully an entire studio into changing the animation of their character? Can we all gather together and try that shit again?
Dude if they kept the same original animation the whole “he’s a hero now” thing would’ve flown but god like they’re catering to the new generation, when it grossed as much money it did because we are grown up. Maybe I’m old now I’m only 25 so maybe this is just how my parents felt taking me to see megamind in theatres when it came out shits just wild
Me personally i think the sequel should maybe include megaminds species and they find megamind and then they got a problem and smth like that, so like megaminds family and that type of stuff
I'm gonna block out every horrible thing about Megamind 2 and just say that I'm absolutely JAMMING to the Michael Jackson instrumental covers you have in the background while you commentate.
