MEIKE vs VEYDRA - Battle of the 35mm Cine Lenses 

The question is, why does the Veydra breath so bad while the Meike barely shows much focus breathing?

At best it will vignette very badly, and at worst you'll see the actual image circle. If the lens could cover full frame, it would be significantly bigger.

Not to mention it's a micro-four thirds lens and the Sony is an E-mount lens.

Sure. There are several Meike Cines Lenses with X-mount: 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, 65mm and 85mm; all T2.2. I use the 35mm T/2.2 on my X-T2 and X-T3. Nice lens for an unbeatable price.

It's just a .25 bump in contrast to make the Meike match the Veydra's contrast. That's trivial in post. There's no way to fix the Veydra's terrible focus breathing in post.

@@Humcrush Philip Bloom says he fixes focus breathing in post. I've not seen him do it nor have I tried it myself.

@@melanienolley I've done it, too...you have to try to reverse the zoom, but then other aspects of the FOV change. It's there if you absolutely must do it, but the results are not without compromise.

Very curious, people have spoken to me about Veydra and focus breathing issues before but my 16mm and 25mm don't seem to suffer - unfortunately I don't own a 35mm to compare with the reviewers though! Tbh, I bought my two Veydras long before the existence of Meike cine lenses so I've long since got my dollars worth for them.

@@knocknapeasta I've also used the Veydra 50, and it doesn't breath so badly, either. It's a problem unique to the 35.

At the time I made this video we didn't know. But, no, the Veydra's were never made by Meike. Someone involved with Veydra licensed their design to Meike after Veydra imploded. Now, he resells them under the Meike brand.
