Although there is no trace of it left, Meir Aerodrome, also known as Stoke-on-Trent Municipal Airport, has a rich and varied history that mirrors the broader changes in aviation and military history throughout the 20th century.
Located in Meir, Stoke-on-Trent, the aerodrome played significant roles in both World Wars and underwent several transformations in its function and structure.

Wow, got quite emotional watching this. I remember as a 12 year old being allowed to ride my bike to Meir Aerodrome with a group of friends which would have been around 1972. Thank you so much for another wonderful video.

As someone who is into flight simulation and aviation , it is amazing the photos you have, I always knew we had an airport, but not exactly where it was, thanks for this ❤ Awesome video ❤

I'm a bit young to remember it as an Aerodrome, but we still called it the Aerodrome in the late 70s/80s, when we used to play youth football on it. We used the garage behind the Saracen's Head pub to get changed.

Thanks Jenna. I live literally, a stone's throw from the old factory. Nice to see more info about the area. It was Creda when I was a lad, making washing machines and cookers. Also, where Tesco is, used to be Staffs Pots, and my father-in-law worked there when he was 16. He used to cycle there and back from Kingsley Holt, every day. I wouldn't want to do that!! We don't know we're born today. 🤣

Great vid. Thankyou. My mum used to tell us she put windscreens in Bristol Beaufighters and Mosquitos but I didnt realise it would of been in the old Creda factory. Very interesting, thankyou for sharing your findings.👍

Super video. Remember the aerodrome well as my brother worked at Harrison-Mayer on the estate. Shame there is nothing really to show of the remnants. Really enjoyed this one

I never knew this 😮had absolutely no idea. Oh wow, it’s crazy to think we had this, like everything they built houses on it , I know there’s always a need for homes but it’s such a shame when they build in some places that once had all this history to it. I have noticed the plane on Tesco to be honest and always thought it very random 😂 now I know why. Thank you so much for this, I absolutely love history as I’ve gotten older, this was fantastic. I don’t know anybody that’s ever mentioned about this before either. I absolutely loved this. ❤

As an ex pilot I love this even though I never knew it existed. Seems to me Stoke on Trent council haven’t changed since not realising potential in local things 😂😂 keep up your amazing vids

I seem to remember that the (now) BP Garage, used to be locally known as "Airport". Not sure if that's right.
