He has no access to her, and it's killing him. His lifestyle is no longer the same without her. Mel was his stability even when he was out cheating with Coleslaw, He had the security to know he had the stability of his home life with a wife and kids. Martell is the prime example of the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Mel might seem bitter but I think it's only because he won't stop with his antics and uses his side dish as a weapon to attack Mel. I believe she's truly happy without this man in her life, which is why he can't help but do ish like lie about buying her ring. Her happiness is his suffering.
