Nice one mate! You learn something new everyday. I think it's great you are also teaching your next generation to tread lightly in our bush. Thumbs up for that. From reading up on treehouse building, one point they say is your better off putting one neat hole in a tree as it can heal around that much better. I wonder if drilling a small neat hole with a knife is feasible and any less damaging that an axe or machete? You could even bung up the hole with some bark after your done. I'm sure someone here with a green thumb might have an answer for that.

Don't go trying it just for the heck of it mate, it's against the law to damage native fauna, only use this in survival situations. Bit of common sense
