I think its bc the song is abt anxiety so she reworked it to just have ‘I’ pronouns to show how it feels to be alone thru the anxiety progress ig IM SO BAD AT EXPLAINGING BUT YK😩😩
The released line fits the song a lot better, because it makes more sense for it to talk about how she is judging herself. The first lyric just makes it seem like other people are judging her, but the song is really about her inner thoughts destroying how she views herself
The newest one is amazing and I found this version which is also very amazing. I have a feeling she could release this version on like a deluxe of portals or something?
Exactly this version would’ve been soooo good I mean I still like the first version it sounds good but this version just does sum to my body whenever I listen to it 😫💔
Nah fr I feel like I'm betraying her a little if it's a leaked song😭😭I didn't know it was leaked, I just saw it was one I hadn't heard☹️☹️But it's such a pretty song it's hard not to listen to it🥺
@@shtwrek5386 I think they only call it reworked because of the fact that both of the songs are called void. Originally, this was the version I was supposed to go on portals but I think because it got leak?? She re-wrote it.
I prefer this version and not the new one. It's not bad by any means just one sounds better than the other, in my opinion. Fits that darker tone for sure, though the lyrics in the new one is dark.
For those who don't know after some of the MM3 songs leaked Melanie rewrote some of them and the ones she couldn't make a better version (like FAERIE SOIRÉE, TUNNEL VISION, MILK OF THE SIREN and LEECHES) had their instrumental improved. That's why VOID and DEATH sound completely different, because this isn't even a demo anymore, it's a discarded song
@@rileynicole4444yes death was leaked, but if you ever listen to the original it’s very very different from the released one. There’s a few lyrical similarities but in terms of instrumentals and production it’s very different
@@cryinqsippyyeah death has like so many different variations. One of them is just called Death Demo and the other is Not Dead, Just Expired. I feel bad because we really shouldn’t be listening to these. But Mel is my favorite. I don’t support people leaking music but if it’s there I can’t not listen to it. 😭
@@somewhereonvenus_ mm3 stands for melanie Martinez three, basically it’s just her third era/studio album. People called it mm3 before we knew the title for Portals. Her next era is mm4
this song + the new one is abt the stage of death called the void, where there is no one and nothing but you to judge your past [alive] self and reflect
no yea me too i liked this one more because her voice and instrumental just sounded so good. but i guess it didn’t fit the storyline anymore or whateve 😔
Personally I believe this refers to Crybaby's era and that's why Melanie decided to remake void completely. I think that the lines about her not wanting to hurt anyone can be an allegory to Crybaby hurting Kelly. While the new void song she speaks about how she was in void and it made her unstable and now that she's reincarnated, she speaks about past with the line "I hate who I was before".
Yeah I agree but I can see why this song could also have another interpretation and that it’s not talking about Kelly because Crybaby didn’t actually do anything necessarily “bad” to Kelly. I can see this song referring to Crybaby’s actually past lives, not the K-12 life, another life where she was in Kelly’s Shoes (a bully/mean girl like). Which makes sense because in Class Fight Melanie Martinez refers and talks about Kelly and wanting to be in “her shoes one day”. I don’t know tho, this could be a stretch 😂 I love your theory tho
I feel like this version is Crybaby is her intrusive thoughts, the intrusive thoughts telling her she is greedy and indecisive and gets attached too fast, while Crybaby is saying. She never meant to hurt anyone.
I accidentally stumbled upon this since track 2 is called void and I wanted to her the extended snippet. And this is soooo good 😭😭😭. I feel guilty for listening but I’m also glad I got to hear this masterpiece and I’m sad it got leaked. Both versions of void are soooo good so I’m glad we’re getting the other version
literally my all time favourite song of her. it's a beautiful and painful metaphor of Judgment in the afterlife. this version and the new one have the same meaning and I'm so sad it didn't make it.
Same ❤ when this demo version came out, it's all I listened to from Melanie, but tbh I like this version alot better it gives goth vibes or like dark vibes
Looking at the lyrics of the demo and the lyrics of the current VOID, I realized that the difference between them is because of their meaning as is, I think the meaning of the Void demo is that Melanie describes it as a dark room where she needs to get out and with that she would succeed if her acquaintances forgive her sins and give her a blessing so she can get out, I mean, its meaning of the Void demo is about something more astral, so its meaning is, pay for your sins, and the meaning of the current Void is about fighting with our negative thoughts of ourselves and fight our own inner demons One more comment with context so that you understand clearly: In this version of Void, the "void" (purgatory) is portrayed as a room and not as such an indeterminate space when it is a place of purification and spiritual transition, this song refers to some events in the life of Crybaby and possibly from Melanie herself (as in the final version). Some lines that can be explained to better understand the song: "I hear all my skeletons calling my name" Probably a line that relates to Crybaby, since he's been responsible for the deaths of multiple people in his universe. They would be the voices of their victims, demanding justice for their deaths. "Judge me like a Catholic priest in a confession and give me your blessing to break to the void" These verses use Catholic doctrine as an allegory to the fact that a person seeks the forgiveness of others in order to heal and move forward in his life; Using the same rhetoric, in Catholicism, when a soul reaches purgatory, the only way out of it is through prayer by family/friends, offering indulgences, and repentance for the deceased. "I think I have the key but I don't see the door" In reference to the previous point, the key can be understood as knowing the requirements to get out of purgatory, but the door would mean the lack of these or that the stay in purgatory is indefinite until the purification of the soul is achieved and one can ascend. to heaven. Lines like "You're jealous and possessive" "Passive aggressive" etc., could refer to Crybaby's life or even to recriminations that Melanie may have faced in some confrontations with people from her past.
This song feels more rooted in humanity and the physical realm or “being human,” with references to many more objects, physical acts like being restrained, etc. l think this fits much less with the album’s general theme of metamorphosis into an evolved, immortal spiritual essence.
@@Fowseaatdaeyrliterally no. not true at all bc if that were the case then faerie soireé, leeches, tunnel vision and sirens would not be on the album .. this leaking didnt effect anything melanie just didnt like it and reworked it
Imo, melanie could've just kept the instrumental and reworked it with a new lyrics and a title, the new one sounds cool but this version could've been the best song in her album
This version is just a beautiful as the released but this version shows the more “mellow” side of anxiety. The released shows the frantic side of anxiety.
I really like this version of the Void. While the one she released on portals is more happy up beat, the tone for this one seems to be dark and the lyrics seem to be darker. I really like this version more since it gives off something is about to happen to a character. I do like the released version she made for void, but I really really like this one more. I wish they kept that one on the album ❤
Get me, get me out I can't stand the mirror I hear all of my skeletons calling my name Judge me like a Catholic priest at confession And give me your blessing to break through the void You're so jealous and possessive Passive and aggressive Paranoid and obsessive You are, you are, you are Indecisive, pick your lovers like your vices Yeah, you're always so righteous You are, you are, you are Never meant to hurt no one, no one, no one Sorry for the things I've done, I'm done, I'm done Please let me out of this room Can't be alone with my thoughts no more Think I got a key but I don't see a door, oh Get me, get me out I can't stand the mirror I hear all of my skeletons calling my name Judge me like a Catholic priest at confession And give me your blessing to break through the void You're so motherfucking greedy Always stealing from the needy Break hearts so freely You are, you are, you are Fake and cynical So hypocritical 'Cause you fall so fast and you always get attached And you cut 'em all out with no trouble at it Never meant to hurt no one, no one, no one Sorry for the things I've done, I'm done, I'm done Please let me out of this room Can't be alone with my thoughts no more Think I got a key but I don't see a door, oh Get me, get me out I can't stand the mirror I hear all of my skeletons calling my name Judge me like a Catholic priest at confession And give me your blessing to break through the void
Though this song is very good I love it, it just won’t fit right with the album, because in this void it kinda sounds like she’s doubting herself, though in the other void she’s kinda empowering herself saying “I can do it” kind of stuff like that. And how she said “I gotta escape the void, there’s no other choice” is just seeming like she has the power to escape her bad thoughts but in this one it’s kinda saying that she feels like she doesn’t have power and shes doubting herself when it says “Get me, get me out I can’t stand the mirror” it kinda seems like begging to escape instead of trying to. Is it just me?
So sad it got reworked because I honestly love this way more! It gives off that darker tone that fits with the title, and it just fits her usual style of music and voice so well. The new one is still good but everytime I listen to it I can’t help but get kinda bored because it sounds generic to me. I love Melanie regardless of what she does to her music. And it’s mainly because of the leakers who ruin it for others. This could have been put in the album if people would have respected Melanie and not leak her music. Thanks a lot guys.
She should blacklist leakers and hire a cybersecurity team or some shit. I know it might be extreme but I think she has a right to put her foot down at this point.
how do you know this is true though? like was there a statement from them about why they re-worked it? and if not is there something else proving this even remotely could be true? like yeah leaking isn't that great and I didn't really read the title when I first listened to it about it being a "demo" but still I really don't think they went out of their way to rework this whole song just cause somebody leaked it there is a chance maybe they didn't think it fit the vibe she wanted to go for and reworked it so that it did because I believe it takes a lot of effort to make a song sometimes probably even more effort to rework a song especially for a massive audience and although leaking is kinda disrespectful and rude going out of your way to rework a whole song cause of them just seems unlikely especially cause it won't fix anything so no disrespect but y'know I'm just kinda iffy on this explaintion
@@-NlGHTMARE old void seems kind of old era so that could be a reason why she remade it. A lot of people speculate it's cuz of leaks because Mel stated in her instagram highlights that she had struggled to keep Tunnel Vision on the album since it was leaked and she's been making fun of us on concerts cuz of leaking
@@weird_mango42 oh- thank you for that I was wondering why people kept trying to say it might've had something to do with leaking but I agree I really do feel like this version of void represents a different era and that's why they wanted to change it I kinda don't wanna buy into the whole "changed due to leaks" theory unless that one is proven to be 100% true and not just speculation I still kinda feel bad for all the leaking it's not very nice and definitely proves a blantnt disrespect for their privacy and ruins surprises and sometimes provides false expectations for something if the leak is vague enough either way though I do feel kinda bad for listening to what I now realize is a leaked song but now I can't stop listening to it I'm addicted lol
After reading about her "portals" room, you can definitely tell this one was written in it. Creepy yet mesmerising.😮 I'm also sad that it's not on the album and I don't feel guilty anymore for listening to leaked songs. I'm weak (practically an addict😂) and we waited for years for her to bring out something new. I'll bet there were some people who listened to her unreleased songs even from her first album and yet criticise other's for doing so, even though they weren't any better cause they heard them too.😏
melanie always manages to rip my feelings out of my body and slam it down into an absolute MASTERPIECE of a song. every time without ANY fail. this song specifically. i love this new era so much, this style of music honestly has me in a headlock. i love mel's music with all of my existence fr
@@kandivalez8726 Then you're not a real fan. You're a gross person. Instead of respecting her space you'd rather profit off of her leaks. How gross of a human do you have to be?
@@Lumen04 hell yeah lol you glad you got that off your chest, buddy? I gave her a compliment and all of you aren't happy with that. She's rich. I don't pay for nada. Have a good day, I'm sorry I hurt your feelers.
I love the use of the voice changer in this! Even though the changed voice that calls Melanie/Crybaby greedy and insults her, it still IS Mel's voice at the end which shows her like a priest behind confession walls, she judges herself. And her apologizing shows her talking to herself, feeling the guilt of defining herself by her mistakes and insecurities. I'm happy with what we have, but this is also beautiful.
what if leaking isn't the reason why she's reworking songs? maybe she just wanted to do this no matter if it leaked or not? a lot of portals 1.0 leaks are probably demo. also tunnel vision is going to be released and it doesn't sound reworked even tho it's leaked
I personally really relate to the remastered one more. Also if you think about it Melanie made these songs while still in crybaby era ofc she’s gonna wanna switch up the best or words a bit to fit the vibe
This song really hits different when you understand the whole story.. crybaby got put in the void by Melatonin.. (we know Melatonin exists from some of Melanie Martinez's other songs) Melatonin is really truly evil...
PORTALS was never intended to be medieval themed, at least if it was Melanie has never said that. From what it seems Melanie ALWAYS intended the album to be about rebirth and the cycle of life and death
