I am not Jewish, but Melanie is as on so many things so correct. But the rot of Woke goes deep in modern collapse of real values. Climate hysteria, absurd Ed Miliband policies, Starmer etc etc, do they they not see? No, not the end of European Jewry, but perhaps one day a wakeup call, and that could start for us westernerswith reading the Koran and its true motives....
As an old Israeli, it would be with tremendous sadness that I would see European Jews, once again, forced to leave their beloved homelands. However, if Europe is unsafe, so is Israel. Their decision to come to Israel must be made on more than the quest for physical safety. Israel is a tough country in almost every way, especially for those who come from England's green and pleasant land. Or from la douce France. If UK Jews are to find a true home here, their decision must be above all a spiritual and moral one. It surely requires a wrestling with oneself and resultant clarity on what it is one wants from life, on what is most important. It might be about a richer Jewish life (religious or secular), about family and social values, about self-respect, or other human treasures. It would be a formative decision, as life changing as getting married, or having children. Whoever undertakes it, should view it as an irreversible decision. Otherwise, it will be hard to take root here. Unfortunately, Jews have rarely come to Israel out of free and happy choice. To think, if only Jews had responded with courage to the Zionist call in the first three decades of the 20th century, how much blood and anguish might have subsequently been spared! When I try to imagine what a large influx of European or American Jews might do for Israel, and what it might do for them, it takes my breath away. But I don't often indulge in this fantasy of the double blessing. Still, whoever you are, whatever you decide to do, here or there, may you be strong and courageous. חזקו ואמצו.
i sympathise totally with the Jews in Britain🇬🇧 as a white Christian English man im beyond disgusted and revolted by the rabid anti semetic behaviour in the towns and cities . God Bless Jews everywhere
@RayCyst310 Most people were not fighting for or against an ideology they knew very little about. They fought to defend a country that the victors have finally taken away from us.
Yes, amazing woman. She is honest and so very well informed. She speaks and writes clearly and so straightforwardly. Rereading All Must Have Prizes...brilliant book.
NOT everything , she is wrong about TRUMP. Also has TDS syndrome. TRUMP WOULD BE GOOD FOR ISRAEL AND USA AND THE WORLD AGAINST TERRORIST FORCES AND IRAN AND RUSSIA. AND CHINA OF COURSE!
Perhaps Zionism, while understandable and even desirable from an idealistic viewpoint, has not turned out to be a practical project to implement. Too much time went by from the dispersal by the Romans to the modern resettlement for it to ever work. It has proven over the last nearly 100 years to be unworkable. It was unfortunate that the populace proved so troublesome for the Romans that they got driven out.
I didn’t think a Labour government was going to be a particularly good thing for Britain but listening to Melanie I’m convinced it’s going to be an extremely bad thing for the UK and our relationship with Israel.
The establishment of four million Muslim vote bank in Britain is the beginning of the end of British Britain. This form of colonialism of India is what ended up the in the most violent and illegal Partition of India in 1947, and unfortunately, that story has still not ended in India. Now it’s the turn of Britain to front up to its own collapse. France, Germany, Belgium, Sweden…… are not too far behind 🛑

@@gopalramanathan7062 oh you mean the British Britain as in the empire . The empire that colonized there land, committed atrocities to their people, plundered there wealth and resources. You mean that greatness of Britain.
Love Melanie. She has paid a heavy price over the years for speaking truth and right. In many ways she is like the great Douglas Murray like that. Melanie was right and the last 20 years has born that out and unfortunately will keep proving she was right too.
@stephendoherty981 ??? Oh yes because they are so crazy and completely off the mark? I will be laughing at the likes of you within 5 years as you don't have an easy escape plan. Uk, us, Canada, Australia, new Zealand amd western Europe are all totally screwed now
How I love to hear and admire Melanie! Her reading of British politics is very clarifying and her comments on Thatcher made me understand the reasons why the cultural war was lost in Britain.
I was 20 as the 80s rolled in. I marched for gai rights, I felt happy being a liberal conservative and by the time Blairism was ushered in, women's rights were secure, gai rights's were secue, religious rights were secure, immigration happened in ameasuredway and empoyment was high... then the EU happened, the euro was created. There was a referendum for that which included Shengen. I was a trader at that time and we didn't like it and I remember what the media was telling us; that we had to do this to be strong against America and the USD... what happened to Schengen? and there was no open antisemitism until the muslim numbers went remarkably up! Everywhere in Europe!
I've lived and worked across the EU and UK for two decades now. There never were any benefits to being in the EU. I have pension contributions in four countries, unavailable accordingly to my very expensive Zurich-based accountants. Thr only safe country atm is Hungary - ironic, as when I first came, they had uniformed Nazis marching down the capital's main street.
Your problems with muslim immigration have nothing at all to do with the EU. That, you achieved all by yourselves. Your governments always had full control over immigration, they blamed the EU rather than admit to their own mismanagement of immigration, be honest.
Again, it's mismanagement by national governments. Though Angela Merkel made a grave mistake, however, none of us even dreamt what the repercussions of that would be, though the Germans themselves were very unhappy about it.
Thank you for this brilliant conversation. Melanie Phillips always impress me with her analytical skills and broad knowledge. As to your question: Yes I think they should leave Europe and come to Israel. Europe's loss will be Israel's gain.
Thank God for this worthy woman who say's it as it is. I was totally unaware of what things were like in the Middle East until I started following Melanie. God Bless her.
They would be much wiser to lean back on Yahweh their God rather than politicians in the world. The Old Testament reminds us of their failures over and over and they haven't learned. The God of this world is not asleep, He has given us the story of how this will play out already if they would only wake up and pay attention. He will save them in the end if they have faith in Him.
@@stephendoherty981Yet if they agreed with your views and pushed your beliefs they'd be superstars. Not everyone does and that's ok. That's life. Cope.
Thank you for interviewing the brilliant Melanie Phillips on this show. It was disheartening to hear that having a Jewish wife does not mean the new Prime Minister will be better for Jews and Israel. Leftism trumps all else. "Human rights" activates for all except Jews.
This is an outstanding discussion and one of the best analyses of the 'British political predicament' anywhere. There are long sequences where Melanie beautifully sums up the situation re Islam, Islamism, demographic destiny and the inherent danger to Western civilisation from the above. She describes that reality, she explains it with perfect clarity and, on the odd occasion, with a striking and justified brutality. Thank you Melanie Phillips
Love your interpretation of the elections. Spot on. We ( the reasonable) are keeping faith with Israel and the IDF. Fooled once through naivety but not again through ignorance! 🇨🇦🍁🇮🇱
Thank you Melanie. I’m not Jewish just a normal northern working class person with a keen eye for what is going on. You explain succinctly what I already know to be true but was unable to unravel. You speak truth. It is sad that so many ppl are dumbed down, unable to think for themselves, more interested in watching Love Island etc. voting for governments they do not understand. There is a rally in London on 27th. Lots of ppl are waking up. I hope this is the start of a new awakening
I was most interested in your comment Melanie, that British Jews don't really understand the times. At the end of the Second World War, one several of my fathers Jewish friends commented that they couldn’t understand why the Shoa. Hetoldthem Hitler wrote it all down in "Mein Kampf". If they had read that book many Jewish people.e would have got out. As usual Melanie youhave agoodgrasp of what is happening. Praying for Israel. @@LeeGee 412 seats is a resounding mandate for change, especially considering that just 5 years ago (admittedly under a truly awful leader) Labour was defeated in a landslide. This reflects a massive shift in public opinion
What a powerful and wonderful woman! I have watched many interviews of and speaking appearances by Ms. Melanie. I am always deeply impressed by her intellectual prowess and forceful passion about the crucial cultural and political issues of our times. I have tremendous respect and admiration for Jonathan as well, so this interview is a total treat despite the ominous implications of the subjects at hand. Thank God for both of you!
Regarding Melanie's reluctance to engage in predictions about Labour's and the UK's political future, I'll bravely take the perilous stroll out onto a shaky limb of prognostication to say that the Labourite left's obsession with climate change and "net zero" will prove to be it's political downfall. If Labour passes it's Draconian agenda to abolish fossil fuels for transportation and domestic energy production, it will lead to economic chaos and political collapse in the name of global climate change. As divisive as mass immigration and wokeism is for British culture, one thing that will inevitably unite virtually all Britons regardless of political stripe in opposition to Labour's reign will be its catastrophist green energy policies. When costly and grossly inconvenient mandated all-electric transportation and unaffordable electricity and home heating fuel devastates the national and individual economies, the population will revolt. When the average Islamist taxi driver and the personally conservative Yorkshire farmer can no longer afford to pay for a liter of petrol or a cubic meter of natural gas to heat his home, they will be united in their white hot hatred of the Labour politicians who've brought them to their economic knees. Mark my words. It will come sooner rather than later.
I have enormous respect for Phillips. Her observations are insightful. But her pessimism re democracy and France and Islam is terrifying for Jews. Antisemitism resulting from the Islamic arrival in the west and their capacity to influence elections has become a major concern. Gadaffi and his prophetic words “We’ve won, you’ve lost!”when he came in from the cold are no longer in dispute. Idiotic politicians such as Blair and Merkel who trumpeted about multiculturalism and its benefits should be ashamed of themselves. The Caliphate has begun.
For anyone not from the UK, please be aware we have a First Past the Post election system. This is not a proportional representation system. Feel free to look into FPTP. 80% of voters didn't vote for Labour. They got 34%, Conservatives 24%, Reform UK 17.7% etc Labour got lower votes this election than they did in 2019. Keir Starmer the Labour leader, has a low popularity rating of any Labour leader. He's a very weak leader. This election was intended to unseat the Conservative Party and make them pay for failing the UK for the last decade and more in power. Labour are just as useless. Therefore 80% of voters didn't vote for Labour. They won because of the FPTP election system and because voters wanted to make the Conservative Party pay for their failures. If the majority of voters had turned up and voted Labour in large numbers say 80%, then you could say voters wanted Labour. They didn't! 80% voted for other parties and independent candidates, not Labour. We have a new party in the UK called Reform. They are popular as well. And they are a direct challenge to the Conservative Party because they are also Conservative in agenda. The Reform party under Nigel Farage their leader, wanted to destroy the Conservative Party. They succeeded. Next up for destruction are the Labour party who 80% of voters didn't vote for. They are going to be destroyed soon by their own hand and by Reform UK. It's been 8 days since our election and Labour are already messing up and making citizens angry. We're already angry because of the Conservative Party. However Labour are chipping away at an already angry population. Give it 2 years and they'll be out. They won't last 5 years or more. Another election will be called soon. And Reform UK know this and are preparing themselves. Many people including myself know what's coming. And it's Labour's collapse. Citizens are fed up, protests will start and citizens will revolt against the govt. It's only a matter of time. And the Labour party are not united either. They can't stand each other so they will crumble from within.
Melanie thanks for your excellent clarification of your stance as you see it Fully agree with you However one word of support for you and your people Don’t despair the Lord is in control he neither sleeps or slumbers He is the ultimate protector of your people and will utterly defeat the evilness of Iran and its supporters
@@Foster-rv6ty it's called feeling. You should try it sometime. It might lead you to the path of empathy. Perhaps even human understanding and love of other.
In Australia there is a parallel Muslim Vote organisation trying to do the same thing threatening several Labour Electorates. But the Labour Party in Australia doesn’t have anywhere the majority British Labour has.
I'm from the UK and the Labour party won by 34% of votes. 80% of the people who bothered to vote didn't vote for Labour. This election was about getting revenge on the Conservative Party. Not because everyone loves Labour. If the majority of people had turned up to vote overwhelming for Labour then this would be impressive. And Labour would be considered very popular with a high votes base. This is not the case. Unfortunately for Labour 80% of voters didn't even vote for them. The UK also has a First Past the Post election system which is not proportional representation. When people around the world hear and read that the Labour party won in the UK by a landslide, this simply isn't true. Labour got less votes this election than in 2019 under Jeremy Corbyn. And the current Labour leader Keir Starmer has a low popularity rating. He's a weak leader and he knows it. Labour only won because of our FPTP election system. No other reason. They are unpopular and worse than the Conservative Party. Both parties are useless but Labour are worse! The Mu slims refused to support Labour because Labour are undecided when it comes to Gaza. They aren't pro Palestine enough. Mus lims used to always vote for Labour but refused to this time because of Palestine. However some Mus lims did end up voting Labour, others chose independent candidates or pro Palestine parties. And the Mu slims are at loggerheads with each other because they were divided on who to vote for. Next election they might be more organised than this election. But be assured, Labour in the UK aren't popular with 80% of voters who didn't vote for them.
No that's not harsh enough Ms Phillips, people should be threatened to not vote for Democrats. Also, Ms Phillips should run for President of the USA, she understands the current situation way better than any politician in the US.
The good news is that there are more good people than bad. The bad news is that good people are compassionate, forgiving, understanding and consequently easily intimidated by the bad.
Have you not heard some of the antisemitic conspiracy theories spread by RefUK candidates? or heard about how Nigel Farage allegedly treated jewish students at the private school he went to? They aren't the answer
It was far more a case of Britain rejecting the “traitors, quislings and collaborators” that are the Tory party, in the hope that Reform can become an actual alternative to the WEF/WHO crowd
I am an Indian, I have listened to Melanie's contributions regularly on BBC moral maze. I hear her concerns. I will always support the Jews and Israel. Long live Israel.❤
Pope Benedict was on the right path about it and promptly got cancelled for his speech accurately identifying inhumane ideas in that worldview. No matter his mistakes that speech was more than any other popes did in the last 50 years.
What Church there are hundreds of different churches in the Christian family the Greek Orthodox Church, the Coptic Church, Roman Catholic, Anglican Church, Armenian Church, Methodist, Mormon, many different churches and sects. The problem is often Christian Leaders are too busy arguing ovet interpretations of the Bible and various rituals then together and speak together as one voice in support of the Jewish people as followers of Jesus who was himself a Jew.
The perception Trump is an isolationist is wrong. If he is one why did he push NATO members to increase their military budget, why did he pushed for Abraham Accord? Trump simply put America, her interests, her exceptionalism first.
The electorate did not choose Labour. Most people voted for the the centre right but as the Conservatives only talked about controling immigration many voted for Reform so the right vote was split, allowing Labour to win given our first past the post system.
Actually the Labour Party got 34% of the vote, just over 20% of the problem. Farage's ReformUK Party has an Alliance with the Northern Irish Traditional Unionist Voice (TUV), and managed to elect an MP, who has taken the ReformUK whip.
It was certainly more about getting the Tory's out, the consequence of which was to get Labour in, but the disgraceful results are a topic for anther show, and should be the catalyst for change in the system.
Thank God for raising up the voice of Melanie Philips during these darkest times in Britain. This woman speaks the truth about what is happening in the country where I live.
I would love to be able to articulate my thoughts the way Melanie does. I agree with her summation entirely. It's scary that we have such weak leaders atm. And not very able to see things as they are.
What an impressive ultra intellectual guest who’s honest views are not only mirrored by the majority of Americans and Israelis but also a growing number of people who are coming to grips with the ACTUAL realities at hand and what’s truly at stake- TRUMP2024 to save America and the world 🌎 as we know it 💙🤍❤️ AM ISRAEL CHAI 🇮🇱🇺🇸🇮🇱🇺🇸🫡
I wish every Brit would read Melanie’s book Londonistan, brilliant book, that says the truth about Islam that’s destroying this once great country. She and Douglas Murray are brilliant on the threat that’s facing Britain.
I'm watching this the day before the England football team plays Spain in the final of Euro 2024. While at one level it will be great if the team wins (which I don't think it will, Mr Optimism here), it could also be used as a rather convenient 'sticking plaster' to temporarily cover the seriousness of the problems affecting the nation in this period. The erosion of national confidence and identity has, I'm afraid, already reached a stage that no football match will be able to provide a salve for.
