My great grandfather was one of the master bricklayers who constructed Melbourne's shot towers. It was nice to see how the city one is being preserved.
Thank you so much for the upload. I hope they never modernise Flinders Street, I would be pretty pissed off it's the most nostalgic station in the city
My great great grandfather and grandmother were the first to come to Melbourne from Tasmania when there was nothing there. My grandfather was the first brick maker on the banks of the yarra and worked for John Pascoe Fawkner They came over from Tassie on the Enterprise
Very entertaining indeed. Thank you. Obviously you put a lot of thought and work into this. I was just walking down Little Bourke Street at that exact spot where the chubby guy is standing on the left at 1:28! (on my way back from the bottleO around the corner in Exhibition for a quick Sunday afternoon pick me up!)
I saw the planned "redesign" for flinders street station from a 1961 VR newsletter, basically a bloody awful massive brutalist "box" concourse with flat plane glass and pebbled concrete, the side fascia of the building to be replaced by similar flat slabbing. The design ended up being used on the spencer st upgrade in the 60s, also a thing of the past. So thankful this edwardian masterpiece has survived.
The last photo with AAMI Park in it used to have a greyhound track in that exact spot prior to the construction of the Citylink tunnels at the end of the previous millennium. I was also hoping to see what Bourke Street looked like before it became a mall between Swanston and Elizabeth Streets.
Love the music. Reminds me of the soundtrack of "Back to the future". Love the "morphing" between the then and now. For a book version similiar to this see Melbourne: then and now by Heather Chapman and Judith Stillman
I love this; but I'm a pedant. This should be called Now and then; or the photo order reversed. I know .... I need to be shot for this comment; because it's a great deal of work which I really appreciate your doing. Thank you .. wait .. 2010? Wow. .... soz for the pedancy and thanks so much for the upload
Hey, I know this is an old video, but im doing some animation and was wondering if anyone could link me the pictures used so I can use them as reference. Thanks.
I was hoping to see a photo of the corner of Swanston and Flinders before the large Cathedral was built, pre 1880, there was a blue stone church and some offices, stores and a corn market.
a greek tragedy. all masked up. 8pm curfew. be a horror show. wait for the commonwealth to be restored. then it will be worth it. be much more pleasant.
