That verse he did at the end of the movie Beat Street was CLASSIC. He said “Don’t be a slave to no computer” and look at us now? Dude was light years above his time with that line.

@@dizmop Doesnt matter if another group mentioned it. It was common knowledge of the day. Yeah he said it first and maybe he is the only one to say it but that doesn't make him some sort of prophet on the subject. Thats like some rapper saying today we could one day in the future have anothe pandemic that could wipe out half the world and 4o years from now it actually happens. Then yall would go "man lil boosie said that back in 2021. He was ahead of his time." Everywhere on the news today they are talking about a possible pandemic in the future that can do that.

The ‘battle’ with KRS at the LQ is discussed in Paradise’s book (No Half Steppin’). There are at least two other people (both golden era legends) besides KRS who share their memories of that specific event. Others talk about the situation more generally. Mel admits something happened - just not what he would consider a battle. Classic difference of opinion.

According to Kool Moe Dee, Mel was arguing with Biz Markie about there was no MC who could battle him and Biz was saying Big Daddy Kane could take him. Out of respect for Mel, Kane didn't. All of a sudden KRS appeared out of no where calling Mel out. Kool Moe Dee says KRS won the crowd when he said "You know what you need to learn?.... 🙋🏾‍♀️ hello, I would like to speak on KRS' behalf. I call bullshit Melle Mel!!! I was a teenager hanging out at the Latin Quarters that night. KRS One was killing the stage. He was so good. I guess he found out that Mel was in the club at some point. Not sure about that part, but I do remember while on stage, KRS said "where the f*ck is Melle Mel?" He called him out I think maybe twice or several times during his set. He called him out, then continued rapping. Out of nowhere, Melle Mel jumped on stage. The audience went nuts. We were all thinking, oh sh*t, it's about to go down! Melle Mel was passed a mic, but everytime he was going to start rapping, Scott la Rock (R.I.P) would start cutting and scratching, preventing Melle Mel from beginning. The audience loved it, but it was starting to really frustrate Melle Mel. He angrily said "Mr. DJ play the f*cking record." 🤭 So finally Scott la Rock let's the record play without interruption. Melle Mel sounded so old school like 1970s style. I think he even threw in one of those ah - huh - huh - huh, that he used to do. The crowd started laughing and dissing. For some reason I can't remember if he was booed, but he got absolutely no love. KRS One took over and ripped the mic, we all go crazy. Melle Mel got so mad, he left the stage. It was a battle in my eyes that he lost.

Actually I think this is incorrect. I know Chaka Khan and Melle Mel say this but New Edition's first album came out in '83 and they were rapping on some songs along with the singing. @@rustyjames5000 no doubt it slaps. A lot of disco songs slapped. But I just wouldn't categorize that as R&B in the vein Chaka Khan, Melle Mel and we're talking about. KRS got a little taste of that karma with his feud with Nelly. Of course, Nelly, on his best day, could not beat KRS in a battle, but at the time of the beef, Nelly was popular and KRS One was considered that "old school artist who had his turn."
