This is my song. Remember my dad buying me this game and playing it for hours. I was so happy. It immediately became my favorite FF of all the ones I had played especially this song. I would sing it all the time. That same year, my father, passed away. Now after 10 years, I know why I loved this song and game. It was almost a message from him unknowingly. He has left me behind, but I still remember him and carry him on.

FF9 helped me get through tough times when I started high school in 2013-14… (before moving onto a special school). I just finished another playthrough two days ago on my Switch and I couldn’t help but ugly cry again at ending. This is a game and experience I will never forget 🙂

I must say that FF IX is the last good game in Final Fantasy era, the era of good stories, amazing characters, breathtaking songs, interesting, tricky and sometimes funny gameplay, will forever make Final Fantasy the best game that I have ever played. Final Fantasy 9 My friends and me used to play the game in real life style when we were young. I was Zidane, my best friend back then was Vivi, his brother was Steiner. These nostalgic Memories, my childhood. Thx FF9 for these great times.

Soeredj Chhatta story wise 12 for me was the weakest but the gameplay was good it gave us a new way to battle and strategically plan it...and also i want to play 15 but sadly got no ps4

Personally I think this is the most underrated classic of the franchise. It was released on the tail end of the PS1's life and when it was, most people were already clamoring for the PS2. There wasn't a whole lot of advertising or interest for this game from what I remember. All I remember seeing is one freaking commercial and everyone who I talked to was too busy debating the PS2/Xbox war.

**SPOILERS LOTS OF THEM** I don't understand how people don't list this as hands down the best of the FF games. The development of the story, the character growth, the developing relationship between Sarah and Zidane, the constant emotional roller coaster, the way Sarah tries so hard to keep Zidane at arms length the whole game, it's such a well developed story. Then waiting till literally the last half of the last scene before allowing Sarah to drop the act and succumb to her emotions for Zidane was simply an epic stroke. The way the music was used, not only to identify key figures, but also tie later scenes in with previous scenes to enhance the emotional effect has never been done better, IMO. I think the fact that it wasn't voice acted enhance the game so much, because the characters were forced to use body language to convey emotion. And 90% of human communication is through body language. For instance, the scene where Lindblum was destroyed and we watched Sarah break down; how could that scene have been improved by adding voice. Or the scene where Bahamut attacked Alexandria. Any voice acting would have detracted from Sarah's expression. I know people liked FFIV, VI, and VII more, but those stories just don't compare, really. The characterization in VII was extremely bland, comparatively, and there was very little emotional connection after the death of Aerith. VI had a lot of different characters, and they were reasonably well developed. The story was unique enough to be interesting, but at the end of the day; did you ever really feel connected to any character? I never did. IV might have been the next best in terms of characterization. I mean who will ever forget the little rydia crying over her mother? Or the moment she comes back as a full grown woman. No one who plays the game will ever forget Cecil's transformation into a paladin, and the revelation that Golbez is your brother is actually pretty epic. And the scene where Palom and Porom become stone to save the party. So many good scenes, but that's the difference between IV and IX. There were epic characters and epic scenes in IV, but they felt . . . sprinkled in. The epic scenes in IX are epic not only because they build off of great characters, but because they are intertwined in the story. For instance, the Palom and Porom scene. In what way did that advance the story? The story doesn't change if you just walk out of the throne room and P&P decide to go home. Whereas the destruction of Lindblum and Sarah's timely arrival was a vital piece of the story. You can't take it out and have the story still make sense. Rydia's return as a grown woman was certainly welcome, and a memorable scene, but if she never came back; nothing in the story would change. Whereas in IX the destruction of Brahne's fleet was not only epic on a character level, but it was inextricable from the plot. Ok, that whole thing with the crystal at the end was obviously tagged on and pretty bad, but in the end it was 10 minutes of astoundingly awful in a 30 hour game. I think that's why FFIX is the best of the FF games. Other than 10 minutes towards the end, the plot and characterizations were indelibly intertwined. I think the romance between two main characters allowed us to become more emotionally invested in the plot too. Oh, and the gameplay, sidequests, and growth mechanics were good too. Overall, this might be the only game I would seriously consider giving a 10/10.

Most people I Know, say that the 1st FF game you Play is your Favorite... FFVII was my 1st and while it had many Story Scenes I enjoyed (which goes for FFVIII too), it has Nothing to compare to FFIX~!! I Play FF games for the Story/Characters/Summons/Cutscenes and while I had Never played any of the Early FF games in FFIX's original Time, I knew of them and similar Games, it just really felt like a TRUE JRPG, old & new, plus it was the 1st FF game for me that really gave me the Fairy Tale Fantasy feel I was longing for... this is why I also loved FFX, cause that World was so Rich of Fantasy Culture, just like FFIX, while FFVII & FFVIII felt a bit too Realistic for me, not Fantasy enough... ...and to End my Comment, just wanted to Say how this Song always Touches me, #DatClassicEndScene

So I played ff since I was a kid, the first ff I played and owned was II for super Nintendo (back when IV was II)and I did enjoy it. So growing up I played ff I-XII and XIV. the online ones (IX) I enjoued. but all hands down the best ff I've ever played was FFIX, to this day I still play it even tho I passed it so much. the story was the best, music loved it, characters enjoyed them. All hands the IX=the best and I strongly recommend it.

Everything that need to be said has been said in the most elegant way. FF IX is by far my favorite J-RPG of all time! Even now, at the age of 27 I always feel the same connections with this game. Grenat/Garnet (Sarah of her real name in US version - much better than Sheila in french version...) is one of the most developed characters of all the FF's. The plot surrounding this young princess is just remarkable. Each time I complete this game, my body is shivering in a cold flow of nostalgia. Sorry for my bad "engrish".

I do agree IX was one of the best FF games (it's the best one IMO). Though I don't think VII was overrated. It was unique and memorable for the time in which it was released. You don't get that many boss that make you feel "Uwah scary" while yo track him down like Sephiroth back in the time, and Cloud did have a good sense of humor not usually seen in main characters. The compilation made it lose a lot of the uniqueness though, what with making Cloud into the usual angsty protagonist (instead of the troubled but up-beat person he was at the end of FFVII, or even the cynical joker at the beginning) and play up the pre FFVII SOLDIER "tragedy" to attract more fangirls (Some time I wonder if being a pretty boy was one of the requirement to join Soldier).

KirbyGotenksabsorbed I get what you mean, i think it's due to the fact they predate 7 and only "real fans" have played the ones before 7, or something. I played and beat 7 first when I was a kid but since fighting Baku for the first time at the start of the game 9 has always trumped 7 for me.

On a side note, I've always wondered why everyone keep ranking 4 as one of the best. IMO it has quite good characters and story, but the game play was not that fun (playing the original SNES version which lack some minor but noticeable updates to the class abilities does not help). Probably my fault for playing Chrono Trigger back to back with it, but still...

I honestly see the end of the FF series at X. Everything made after that was entirely forgettable and didn't have the heart & soul of the older games. The defense of Alexandria (the wings) is one of my favorite scenes in the whole series.

Final fantasy 9 will always be my favorite game. The storyline is so deep and there were so many amazing moments throughout the game. Every character has their own charm and they definitely grow on you. This game makes you feel all kinds of emotions. Even after 16 years, I still find myself coming back to it. Love forever!

OllyPhoenix said it is a shame that they don't make games like this anymore and he is right. I am in high school and everyone plays COD and don't see why I like FF and I say there is more too it then just running around killing people. IX is also my favorite.

Many years ago when I was younger (long before youtube) I had set up a save file on my PS1 right before the final fight vs Kuja/Necron, and I would complete that battle almost every day after school just to hear this song. Those were the days.

Everything in IX was done right. There was enough content and metagame to keep it playable beyond the end, the story was amazing and touching and took you to some of the most breathtaking places I've seen in a game. The soundtrack was beautiful, I love everything about every character, and I believe it is FF at it's best. The races populating FFIX are some of the best and it just kills me to see Final Fantasy take a nosedive into Sci-Fi as opposed to original, beautiful worlds like IX's.

at terms of its characters design, it may look childish and cartoonish, but ff9 has the most powerful storyline compared to 7,8 and 10. i cannot even hear the soundtrack or see the cutscenes without crying. with all due respect to ff7, I think square should do something again with ff9. remake, sequel, whatever.

Flamacc Could be. I don't know about the fan base as a whole but 8 was a bad one imo. I didn't finish it and only played something like half of it before stopping. For me it was too much work to upgrade your gear. Also, the story got too weird/confusing for me which is saying something because both 7 and 9 got weird in places but never too weird. That's why I didn't even consider that they'd remaster 8 but they may because like I said before, I don't know how well received 8 was. For me 7 was absolutely fantastic and I'll buy a new console just to play it if/when they remaster it. #9 was also great and is still playable today.

I don't care if this game underrated, this is the BEST Final Fantasy game that has the best story, music, characters and many things this game has that no other Final Fantasy game has. This will always be my favorite final fantasy. None will pass it in my heart, it's a beautiful game and story. It's characters are great as you may have to look beyond their words sometimes to see they're not immature (way to go dissidia for making Zidane how he was before meeting Garnet), they're deep and complete characters, and I love all of them. The ending of this game actually made me cry, with a mix of sorrow and happiness...

This game was my first RPG, back in the year 2000. This game made me dream, when I played I was so immersed on this world of Fantasy. After reach Lindblum and hear Garnet humming (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0P171hNnbTo.html) I coulnd't take off my head this song (nor I wanted too hehe) and I remember being on school (always bored) looking through the window and hearing this melody playing on my head, wanting to comeback to my home, wanting to the friday, to be able to submerge on this Fantasy again.

I agree. This game captured the true feeling of fantasy without getting too heavily into technological aspects. Even the tech in FF9 was predominantly whimsical and magical in nature, as opposed to 7's Life-Stream powered Cyber/Steampunk, FF8's paramilitary styled robotics, FFX's Machina, etc. To top it off, I genuinely liked every member of the FF9 cast. Zidane was a far cry from the brooding Squall and Cloud, he was likeable, funny, and not your typical "I use a big sword and have a dark and murky highly convoluted backstory". Meanwhile, Garnet had an amazing role as one of the first experiences I had in gaming of the strong and reliable female lead/co-lead character. Vivi and his uncertainties alongside his constant bromance with Steiner AND Zidane was amazing. Eiko's jealousy of Garnet being the apple of Zidane's eye fleshed her out as a character very well. The only characters I feel less strongly about as far as the party are Amarant and Quina, partly due to me losing my save data and will to play the game near the end of Disk 3... All in all, while other past and future final fantasies were good or great in their own right, FF9 happened to be the last greatest Final Fantasy title. I really wish it had gotten a PC release so they could re-release it on Steam now...

For me the last great FF game was X. It actually took me over 13 years to beat FFIX and I loved it in the end. Though at the same time, even before I completed it, it was always easy for me to realize why it was touted by many as the best

SwordHMX Actually as someone who loathed the Mass Effect 3 endings I thought FFX had one of the best endings in the series. The pitiful sequels ending (where you had to get 100% completion before RU-vid to see it) was a nice cherry on top.

I've never understood why FFIX is so easily forgotten. It has some of the best characters from the entire series (Zidane's good, but Vivi and Steiner really win this award here), it was fun, and it had a wonderful, colorful atmosphere. Honestly, I feel that out of the entire series, FFIX and its fellow Playstation brethren of FFVII and FFVIII were the best.

Final Fantasy 8 this one of course and 10 all had beautiful ending songs! But my favorite was the Xenogears ending song! It made me cry like a little bitch! And im a rough looking muscular guy (not to sound cocky) but ahh yes the memory of these games made my teen years worth while! Graphics are inferior today but the story these games are built on including FF7 are still some of the best ever PERIOD!

this game forever will be the best. it touched my heart. and taught me several things. This isn't just a video game, its a tale we can all relate to in some way. This game's moral about life is so deep and meaningful, why call it just a game? The character's their struggle and their victory. The love and the devotion. FFix has it all. and to explain the game in one sentence i would say, "love conquers all" FF9 forever

Also, for real people, why in the hell do you want a remake of this game? Oh my god just thinking about it, it would ruin the game for so many people. Voice acting could ruin your personal image of the characters (I haven't played Dissidia enough to hear Zidane speak), a real time battle system could be way too stressful for this game, and better graphics could also, again, ruin our personal images of the characters. I don't want a remake of this game. It's perfect in it's original state. I never want anything to come and leave this game seeming flawed. But, if you all truly want a remake, that's your opinion, and who am I to try to take that away from you?
