We all have something special about us, but sometimes it is hard to see that within yourself.
Melody wishes she were like all the other unicorns: bright and colourful. All the other unicorns love Melody just the way she is but that doesn't stop her from trying to get colour on her tail and main. When Melody accidentally rubs against a raspberry bush, this gives her an idea. She rubs raspberries, blueberries and strawberries all over... but then it rains and it all washes off. She puts different coloured petals on herself...but the wind blows them off. She even ties kite ribbons on herself...but when she twirls, they fall out. Feeling sad she is comforted by her friends who tell her that she has something very special that none of the other unicorns have, a beautiful singing voice. What Melody realises is that she doesn't need to fit in, she doesn't need to change herself, she is wonderful just being Melody.
This is the sweetest of stories with a beautiful message, You cannot change who you are, you should not change to fit in, embracing your individual qualities is all you have to do. A truly heartwarming story of friendship, self love and self acceptance which will give the reader an inner confidence. Children need to be able to embrace their differences and to celebrate their strengths, we are all different and live in a wonderful multicultural society and we are all equaly important. This book ticks all and the the illustrations are so soft, gentle and characterful. A gorgeous flowing story full of beauty.
