I test the melting of small glass bottles on top of a group of six ceramic mushrooms by firing them in an electric kiln. The goal is to see if filling the bottles with various additives will affect the flow and color of the glass.
Two of the six mushrooms fell over in the kiln due to drip tray failures, and the rest weren't all winners for sure! Failure is certainly no fun. When I first opened the kiln, I debated if I even wanted to finish this video, but with a little analysis, I think this was a worthy experiment. I learned a few things, and I hope you enjoy.
Also, there will be a part two to this video. I am making a larger version of this test mushroom and will be using a beer bottle filled with wood ash, and the winning blue glaze to melt on top. The drip tray will be pre-fired and rim up. :)
