HOW I MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

I think I found my new source of zinc. A hell of a lot easier and cheaper to purchase it like this and a fun breakdown, even if it took awhile. Heap of zinc cars melted down with some copper and brass melts thrown in and a look at last weeks crucible filled chunk. Sit back relax enjoy as theres a hell of a lot going on in today's vid😁👍🏻, but most importantly, have a happy safe weekend and I'll see you beautiful People next Friday👋🏻🤪

Are you sure it wasn't just pot metal? Cheap low melting alloys that can be mass produced. I think pure zinc would be too expensive for China

Most of the Zinc I melt comes from wheel weights I get for free at a local tire center. Toy cars are usually not just Zinc but an alloy called Zamak, a Zinc/Aluminium alloy. I've been collecting toy cars like these to melt at some point, found some during dumpster diving but still don't have many, maybe I should just buy some cheap bulk ones. That Zinc oxide looks white as snow, don't eat it (duh). Fun fact: Titanium oxide is even whiter and is the basis for most things that are made white like paints and dyes and also toothpaste. Friend of mine works at a refinery/factory where they make "white" 😁 Hope you find the source of the nasty smell and can get rid of it. 👍👊
@Ordog213
@Ordog213 5 месяцев назад
Tip. Get to a local tire shop, and ask for their trash bin with tire weights. most of them are made from steel, but many are pure zink without much coating. I got 50kg of old weights for free and it was 15kg zinc

Good melt Big D! That zinc poisoning is what we used to call "Gal Flu" from welding galvanised steel without fume extraction. Back then there was no such thing as air fed helmets. I lost count of the amount of times I went home with flu symptoms. Not nice! Since Kurtis didn't upload this week, Big D gets the funds! Have a great weekend mate.

Talking about your childhood cars, my dad had an auto junk yard back in the 50s. When he salvaged as much as he could, he would scrap them similar to the way you did the plastic car. He would puncture the gas tank with a pick, throw two or three old tires inside it, then maybe a cup of gas and light it and burn it out. He did this on Mondays so the neighbors knew not to hang out any laundry. The next day, after it cooled down he seperated all the burnt copper wire, all of the die cast metal ( door handles, side mirrors and hood ornaments ) and cut the car into 6 separate pieces. That was how they scraped an auto back then ( at least in the country ). Now they just crush and shred them. It’s amazing how your burning of that toy plastic car brought back this memory. I was a young boy back then. Thanks for that memory and the video.

still have my favorite childhood toy cars too. A lot of classic muscle cars. My favorite of the collection is my model of a 67 light blue Chevy convertible. My Grandpa had the actual car, and when he lived in Richmond, Virginia, one of my core memories with him is riding around with him in that car with the top down. He often took my brothers and I for ice cream and lunch at the arcade over at the mall. Every time I look at that model car version, that memory plays in my mind. I will love it forever. RIP Grandpa. Oh, and yes, the top comes off, and it rests on its own little stand next to the car. Though this model isn't a toy, it is 1/15th scale all metal with real leather interior upholstery. The steering wheel works, the mirrors adjust etc. The lights all work, even the brake lights and turn signals. The windows roll down and are made of glass. He built 3 of them, one for each of his grandsons, and left one to each of us in his will. There was a note in the box it came in that read "Mint chocolate chip, Sonic the Hedgehog." That was my favorite flavor (still is) of ice cream and my favorite arcade game. Those were core memories for him too. It is in a protective glass box now on display next to my favorite picture of him. Thought I'd give some more context.

The mold used for the Zinc bar is the standard mode for my collection. Rarely I make coins or use sand molds because of my lack of skills. Also, I collect pure metals - I try to find novelties on the marketplace (like molybdenum for example).
