I agree. That scene lives rent free in my head, and I’ve been mentally rewriting the game’s plot around it because that game and it’s developers deserved better
Obviously, the opening for Sonic Unleased is the GOAT. I mean, the animation and the action marry each other perfectly! Movie quality, as we've said! But I think the cutscenes in Sonic and the Black Knight really showcased the best parts of Sonic. Like, I've never seen Sonic at his best like this since then. Maybe I just love Black Knight too much. But admittedly, I laughed pretty hard when I saw Shadow straight-up roundhouse kick Silver in the back of the head! Like, that one was hilarious!
Other Sonic cutscenes that I found to be memorable (good and bad): - That one time in Sonic 06 where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles are falling and only Sonic lands correctly for some reason - “Where’s that damn fourth Chaos Emerald?” - “I found you, FAKER!” - In SA2 where Sonic and Shadow are running as well as talking (Just a guy who loves adventure) - The time Tails was scared of Chaos 0 - Sonic coming out fine even though Knuckles claimed he was “tortured” for 6 months
Talking about Sonic's vulnerable moments, there's a scene in Sonic Unleashed where he is just TERRIFIED. When we get to see Dark Gaia for real, and the werehog is ripped away from Sonic, he just BROKE, telling Chip to run away and even closing his eyes right before an attack, meaning he just gave up on everything
My favorite scene is still from SA2 where sonic and shadow are walking down the hall and really showing their rival dynamic. I think I can recite the whole scene word for word at this point lol
Kinda surprised that when Black Knight was being discussed, the ending scene after defeating Merlina wasn't talked about, that one lives in my head rent free
Honestly, a lot of iconic scenes could've been brought up. I think he was picking out his personal favorites or underrated moments because the video would become too long otherwise.
I think that cutscene with Knuckles in Sonic frontiers when be talks about how alone he is and he says he admires Sonic's life style. Is pretty memorable
The kick scene from 06 might have been the funniest scene in Sonic history WHAT YOU TELLING ME SONIC GETTING Corrupted AND GETTING SAVED IN 5 SECONDS IS NOT EVEN IN THIS VIDEO WHAT THE HECK LOL
The intros for both Shadow the Hedgehog and Unleashed were made by Blur studios, the same one responsible for the Halo 2 Anniversary cutscenes in Halo MCC, all of which are very high quality and fun to watch
My headcanon for the werehog scene: Sonic knows that out of all his friends, Amy is the most supportive and loving, so seeing those feelings vanish kinda makes him realize the monster he is.
My favorite cutscene has gotta be from SA2,where Sonic said "it is Sonic Adventure 2 time" and proceeded to Sonic all over the adventure. Truly the most scene ever made in gaming
A good video on sonic like usually, I like the concept of this video and it really shows the ups and downs of the series and what makes the intros of sonic games so special
Sonic’s interaction with Knuckles in frontiers when they had a deep talk and then laughed like bros got me. And then Sage questioning sonic’s motive is just great.
My favorite is from the end of generations were modern sonic tells classic to “enjoy your future it’s gonna be great”. It’s kind of a quote I live by cause even when things get bad the future always holds a new better possibility.
The cutscenes that have been rent free in my head lately are from Sonic Frontiers. Sonic's friends are setting up to go on their own adventures. And Sonic encourages them. For Amy specifically, Sonic continues to comfort her after what happened with the Koco. Amy wants to go on her own adventure, even though she knows it'll take her far from Sonic. You can actually see the sympathy in Sonic's eyes right before he tells Amy that she'll do great and he wants to hear everything when she returns. Rather you want to see it as romantic or platonic, the scene shows why these two are friends.
Very excellent video! I swear to God, every single time I thought that I had to explain something or ask a question on why Matthasnocuts thought a specific way. He would wind up explaining and I'd be like, "Oh, that sounds convincing." Lol The Sonic Riders Zero Gravity intro cutscene is super epic but I always loved the opening intro to Sonic Riders the best. I just love the animation like it looks like Sonic X and it has that epic song playing in the background and shows off Sonic being a wonderful friend to Tails when the Babylon Rogues crash into him that despite him being in the lead he goes back to help his best buddy. That scene has me go, "Oh my gosh! That's my Sonic!" EEP! :) While I'm also glad that the Sonamy cutscene moment was actually mentioned in this video over Sonic's vulnerability. I'm absolutely shocked that this other particular scene wasn't at all mentioned. It's the scene where Dark Gaia takes away Sonic's werehog power thus leaving Sonic absolutely weak on the ground. Chip gets extremely worried about him and Sonic says in awfully weak voice, "Run, Chip." That's literally the weakest that I've ever seen Sonic and I'm always like, "Sonic! Dark Gaia! What have you done to my beloved Sonic?!" XD So yeah I had to point that out. Lol Also, this may be a hot take but the story mode to Sonic 06 is actually my main favorite story mode in that game and I love Sonic's story the best. I just love the friendship between Sonic and Princess Elise and I love anything Sonic so I can't help it. Lol My favorite cutscene was at the end when Elise and Sonic don't remember each other but in a certain way they do and they reflect back on each other. :) Sonic 06 is my sixth favorite Sonic game in general, however, though. Sonic Adventure DX is my main favorite and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle is my second favorite. :)
When it comes to Frontiers, the cutscene that surprisingly made the biggest impression on me was Sonic and Amy's small argument on Kronos Island. It had some of the best animation and character expressions in the entire game, as well as some great dialogue from Ian Flynn that questioned whose moral compass was correct. The cutscene could've been completely removed from the game and not change the story whatsoever. However, I'm really glad it was included because it was a rare moment that made Sonic and Amy feel like actual people that have disagreements, instead of just characters talking to move the plot forward.
For me, it was the first scene with Tails. SPOILERS BELOW: “You’ve got Terminal 7, Sonic. I don’t even know what that is, but it’s bad” But more seriously, the way Sonic tries to hide how bad it is from Tails because he doesn’t want Tails to worry about him is just heartwrenching
not really a cutscene from a game but. That one scene from Sonic Boom where Shadow insults Sonic's IKEA skills and how it "brings shame on all hedgehog kind" i miss that show
Sonic doesn't think of Amy like that, and he wouldn't lead her on like that either. She's no more than a friend to him who he'd rather keep away from danger if possible. It's on Amy for continuing to admire Sonic for his heroics. Any situation with her can be awkward though, so it's not unlike Sonic to flee her whenever he wants.
i think of the rhea island scene where sage asks how sonic still smiles when he can barely walk and sonic smiles and continues on knowing that this could possibly kill him
2:10 that explains why he caught a cold before Secret Rings… 4:30 another thing about it that TV tropes noted: Sonic’s not on the ground because he got beaten by Shadow. He’s on the ground to show that Shadow is the _only one left_ who can stop this 7:00 there was that one time in Sonic X where Sonic basically ghosts the President of the United States so he can focus on helping a kid in a wheelchair get to go on an adventure for a day 11:00 I think it’s actually pretty simple. We seem to forget that Sonic literally got a piece of an Elder God implanted in him. The fact that AMY doesn’t even recognize him has him afraid that, on some level, he’s not fully in control anymore. That he might go berserk and hurt someone else Also, I’d give an honorable mention to the Fake Emerald scene in SA2. Like, ALL of it. For as goofy as the acting can be in that game, Amy is utterly shattered and reduced to a broken mess watching her hero get killed, all because she tagged along and got caught by Eggman. As far as she’s concerned, _she let Sonic die._ Meanwhile, Tails, who would have been similarly shattered in Adventure 1, pulls himself together against Eggman’s taunts in a personal favorite “cheesy but goes hard” line: “For the first time in my life, Sonic asked me to do something for him. I _won’t_ let him down! _I WON’T GIVE UP!”_
Matt putting the Silver kick in the Bad Cutscenes category & calling it anti climactic and poorly executed is such a bad take I think Unleashed is mid trash now and Heroes is GOATed shit.
A moment i didn't really like was around the same sonic frontiers cutscene where tails tells sonic he feels like a burden. Tails talks about how he didn't do anything against chaos in forces but then sonic brings up past games only tails to say "then i'm wildly inconsistent". It's not horrible but it feels so incredibly on the nose and takes away my suspension of disbelief. It's like the writers are saying "look we fixed tails look he's self aware"
My favourite scenes "If the world choses to become my enemy I'll fight like I always have" Silver's ending Sonic Shadow and Silver transforming into super form(we need this on the big screen one day) Shadow's infiltration and "I finally found him the Iblis trigger"
I'm surprised you didn't mention SA1's opening scene when you load up the game. Technically it's not a cut scene, but it was still amazing nonetheless.
My favorite moment is at the end of sonic and the black knight were sonic tells merlina were every person has a limited time in this world and to enjoy the time while there alive and it's always made me at least every now and then tear up thinking of that I remember 9 year old me seeing that and related to that it was like having a deep conversation about life and I've always just enjoyed black knight And it's story I genuinely believe sonic and the black knight is the best Sonic story
Dude try to imagine to the one person who over-assessed over you the most and even they can't tell Who You Are that right there will put anyone down in the dumps
There's two I was surprised not to see in the bad cutscenes, when Tails Amy and Knuckles go into sonic at the ending of frontiers, and the part in forces when Tails just gets beat up.
As the number one sonic frontiers enjoyer I gotta admit the sage cutscenes could have been better but I digress my favorite sonic cutscenes comes from frontiers it's where sonic and knuckles talk and it's in my opinion where the characters seemed human not saying there's not other moments but I love that scene to it's core but it has nothing on the unleashed opening that's just peak
Personally I think Silver’s story ending scene is even worse than the kiss scene because at least the kiss scene didn’t kill and ruin a character that I loved
10:30 in this exact moment i spit my water from my mouth out and i was like "what just happen?" 14:02 OMG i'm gonna throw myself into this game that makes me loses all my interest on Sonic for one and a half year!
You took the sonic unleashed Amy scene in the complete wrong way. The point of the scene is that even someone who is so obsessed with sonic couldn't recognise him when he turned into the werehog. It shows that everyone just sees him as a monster and he feels that he can't change this fact. That's why he hides from amy later on because he doesn't want people to know that he is the monster
I ask, why were some of these cutscenes so beautiful? I can list some of the top of my head... Hype! CD Opening + Ending SA1 Intro Shadow Opening 06 Opening Secret Rings Opening Three Wishes Scene Unleashed Opening + The Cutscenes In General Black Knight Opening World Destruction Scene Excalibur Transformation All Riders Intros There's more but I can't list all of them...
I think my top lists are - Sonic and Chip talking in Adabat. Sonic asking "do I need a reason to help out a friend?" is just very admirable - Sonic and crew escaping the collapsing castle after Merlina takes the scabbard - Sonic Mania intro. It's just..so beautiful 🥹🥹 - Of course, Sonic Unleashed and CD's intro - Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity intro is so cool. As my first Sonic game, man what a good first exposure - Last cutscene in Sonic's story in 06 (thank you ftcr)
I honestly really love the Sonic 06 sonics story opening cutscene,it feels really fun and fluid , especially the way sonic just comes in and "crashes the party" all while being cocky and kicking over robots and such,it's just a great opening
One of the most memorable cutscenes for me is in Unleashed, after defeating the Egg Dragoon when Dark Gaia fully awakens. It isn’t the longest cutscene but the Cgi is absolutely amazing, and legitimately looks like part of a movie that could release today
The most memorable cutscenes, in my opinion, are usually the intros/openings of the game. A few that come to mind are the Sonic CD opening, the Sonic Unleashed opening, and the Sonic Colors opening. Speaking of that, and this is a bit off topic, but I went through and played Sonic CD with the North American OST. Personally, I found it to be good in its own right, but some of the tracks were weird, but in a good way. For example, I really liked the guitar in Quartz Quadrant (NA). Anyways, sorry about that, I just know that Matt really likes Sonic CD, so I thought I'd share my experience with the NA OST. I'd like to see some more CGI cutscenes in Sonic games if the team has a budget to make them. Considering that SEGA is giving Sonic Team a higher budget for future games, I don't see this being completely out of line. I think cutscenes have more significance than we think because they can offer a bit of world building and expressive animation. We usually skip the cutscenes because the stories don't appeal to us, and that's fine in itself, but I think on every first playthrough of a Sonic game, all the cutscenes should be watched, and paid attention too because of the monstrous impact they can have on you as a person, believe it or not. We all know that we need to have well-made cutscenes, and the lip sync needs to be on point, which is something Sonic Frontiers failed at. A lot of what I'm saying might sound really stupid to people, but I'm just sharing my opinion and what I've seen.
"You've turned into a big time villain doctor" "Because you just told me, fox boy" "Sonic is counting on me to do this" That one cutscene and the entire game of SA2 nailed the characters perfectly except for maybe Amy
One of my favorite cutscenes is definitely in adventure 2 when sonic gives eggman the fake emerald and eggman just completely trolls tails from thinking they can trick him. It's literally such a underrated scene that's executed so brilliantly. People definitely should talk about it more
Okay, in the lost world cutscene, what should have happened: 1: Sonic would not be so dumb to fall for something that low 2: If he did, he would not straight up go on swear mode, there would be silence. 3: When he found that goth shit, he would just straight up beat the shit out of his ass.
personally my favorite cutscene is sonic’s story’s ending cutscene from sonic 06, it’s beautiful, has some great interaction, and is the best part about sonic and elise’s relationship, with sonic doing his sonic thing and being an older brother figure for every single kid or teenager he picks up off the street shame what happened after that though
