I’m a nurse at the VA and I love my veterans . Sometimes a Vet shares a tuff story and sometimes we both choke up a bit . I can’t hear this song with out a lump in my throat.
My country was not directly involved in the Vietnam conflict, but as you say, we should remember all who fought in the name of freedom in all past wars. My father fought in WW2, as a founding member of the R.E.M.E. He was an engineer and armorer, seeing action in North Africa and Italy. His father before him fought in WW1, in the newly formed Royal Air Force. Many of my uncles also served in WW2 or Korea, and one uncle served in both WW1 and WW2, becoming a prisoner of war when Singapore fell. Thankfully, all of them survived the conflict, although some of them were never quite the same again. We should not only remember, we should also take care of our war veterans - especially those who find it difficult to readjust to civilian life. A very thoughtful and thought-provoking tribute, Mike!
Thank you sir my daddy fought in Burma. I do sell poppies I usually stand sobbing peoples generosity astounds me. However sadly I've noticed a change and we get not nice comments to us it seems some of the respect is going and thats so very sad.

In a few days we will have a big celebration in Normandie, for the commemoration of D Day, june 6.... 80 years ago: all those young men, coming, for the cause of freedom, so many who died....some even before reaching the beach. Yes, for the soldiers of all wars, and as you said ( sadely) for the wars to come....so stupied can we be, humans, not able to just live in Peace. Dear Mike, thank you for sharing this song anf for your deep interpretation. And of course and above all, thank you for having risked your life for your country. Hi Joseph, Yes, I have been gluded to the TV today watching the ceremonies for D-Day. I would so love to visit someday and pay tribute, but I suspect that will never happen. My Dad was a B17 Bomber Pilot who always talked about the glory of flying over the channel that day. For him, it was easy flying into the heart of Germany that day because the Nazis were so preoccupied on the ground. God Bless that generation of British, American as French Patriots who fought off Hitler and frankly saved Europe.
