The short film "Memories" is about an elderly woman who has Dementia. The vineyard she handed down to her daughter is being sold to land developers after the family struggles with financial hardship. The film cuts between the past and present and is focused on the elderly woman’s memories and her experiences when she was young. The film’s morale is that life holds beautiful moments and at the end of our life it is these moments that we hold dear. A family’s job is to preserve memories even if we have to move on.
This film was born on a road trip up north. As we drove for 6 hours I wrote the script and over the next week I made numerous changes and improvements. After we got back, my family, friends and I went into production. Two weeks later, all the filming was done and the final cut was completed, even though I continue to make tiny changes to this day. The story is dedicated to my Nana and Baba who are both in age care with severe dementia. This film is a hopeful take on their situation.
