Hawaian Hula traditionally has been danced as much by men and boys as by women and girls. 'Tis nice to see these young guys dancing it with a modern twist and keeping the Hawaiian culture alive. May they keep on dancing the hula and best of luck to them!
I don't know if this is true or not - but many years ago a Hawaiian resident told me that many get a sort of "cabin fever" living on an island where your choices of places to go see get to be limited after a while.
@@Scottie404 As someone who went recently, and who didn’t plan for it all, I was on a very tight budget. And groceries were astronomical. I was genuinely concerned as I saw minimum wage the same as California when it should be way more.
My summation: This is the best and most handsome line of Hawaiian male dancers in recent memory combined with the singing of a cerebrally musical and vocal genius Kalani Pea with the musical band and arrangement of music to go with this modern interpretation of the oldest Hawaiian historically meaningful, and beautiful hula dance. King Kamehameha's warrior selection committee would have had their hands full with this group of male hula dancers. January 9, 2023. Mahalo nui loa. .
There is something about the music that lowers my blood pressure. I don't even watch the video but listen to the music with head phones. I found taking the blood pressure before and after that the music has a large effect. Now I wonder if the people in Hawaii have a lower BP naturally from the Ocean, Music, and lifestyle. Yes, the dancing is good too. Nice these men aren't wearing outlandish costumes.
The beauty of men center stage. I heard that how chiefs chose their warriors, they would go to the dance schools and cultural centers and would have the teachers bring out their finest male dancers. The chief would watch the dancers to help him choose the best warriors. Dancing takes courage, strength, flexibility, co-ordination, discipline, spirit and body awareness! I love watching the men dance, and having the right singer puts on the final touch! Beautiful, strong performance by the men ! Bravo !!
They are all profesional dancers from a crew who have also participanted on internacional competitions. The guy in the center is one on their best competitors.
@@eg-g look at you trying to be smart, but to bad your brain is so toxic and full of Garbage that’s why you had the need to reply to strangers comment with all this anger and bad energy.
I must say the dancing really beautiful and really represent their own DNA dance and culture. The song just as beautiful as dance 🕺💃🏼 Cant wait to visit Hawaii
I wish I’d know what the song is about but just listening to this singer and looking at the faces and dancing of these young men surely makes me happy.
The song is about calling the Hawaiian people, na kanaka Maoli, to come, gather together and be strong. It does not specify, yet us Maoli know, we need to be stronger to restore our government and country that's under the USA military invasion and occupation against our will that began in 1893. The USA used a domestic law, a resolution, to pose as an international document called annexation. Hawaiian Islands was NEVER ceded nor annexed in international law, USA military occupies hundreds of thousands of private allodial lands displacing thousands of kanaka Maoli. In fact, the military base on my island is putting us through a political process to stay on our lands and "renew their lease" supposedly ending in 2033 while pretending they are going thru proper political channels. At that base, they bomb my island, where people live just miles away, with depleted uranium for military training all year long and invite our school children to stand and watch them do it while uranium is ignited in their vision and at the risk of poisoning our keiki on Earth Day...like for real. Oh and every 2 years more than 20 foreign militias are invited to bimb and firefight with live ammunition in these Hawaiian Islands which used to be that bi-annual national guard training. Did I mention we must also gather and be stronger to keep more telescopes from being built on my mountain Mauna Kea? Mauna Kea, our sacred temple revered by multiple Pacific cultures and countries as the origin of their creation? Sorry about rant. Very appropriate song as we need to wake up to the lies being told by USA govt & education system and have a better perspective of managing our lands and natural resources for our unborn to have a beautiful place to exist when they arrive. Aloha from Hilo, Hawaii island in these Hawaiian Islands, H. I., a country in continuity called Ko Hawaii Pae Aina of the Kanaka Maoli people.🙌💫🌺💦
@@c.kainoabugado7935 thank you very much for your reply. So sad to read what’s going on. The song sounds so happy, I would never have imagined it was a sort of call of war.
@@alexgomez2 Mahalo for your sympathy. We have many songs n chants throughout time with "double" meanings. For example the song Kaulana Na Pua written shortly after the invasion. It translates to something like "famous/celebrated flowers" yet was about how our people felt about the political changes occurring and not wanting to be taken over. We're a peaceful country n people, designated Neutral, so war is not our goal, yet a warmongering country is settled within us, making the Hawaiian Islands an easy military target like what happened with Pearl Harbor. Japan was our ally at the time and didn't target any Hawaiian targets but USA military assets. Our Queen, the day before the invasion sent communication to Japan agreeing to be a sponsor to them into the international Family of Nations. This is just coming to the forefront more n more in recent yrs. The UN are aware of the USA invasion but the way the world works there, if your country has no government, you have no voice of your own. Pray to hear the voice of the Hawaiian Islands government again. Ko Hawaii Pae Aina on the rise💫🌺
@@eurotop40 Kanaka Maoli serious about the Hawaiian Islands truth have been working on it. The Americanism inculcating since 1893s invasion has succeeded in some of us resulting in clashes n infighting among ourselves (very evident in social media) but we're closer than ever now. Mahalo for your support!
My high respect to all HULA dancer. The steps seems to be easy but deep inside me knows that this is not a simple dance. This is a perfect example of discipline and culture. Like the traditional dance/act of New Zealand. I hope my cointry Philippines have this kind of culture.
Ahhh!!! I was there only a few months ago! I remember the MC doing a luau and his voice brought back such happy feelings from that trip there! I shopped there at that venue too, so, it almost felt like I was there again!! ^^
so nice song, guitar and dance so nice to see other culture😁 Hawaii is near in my heart my mom and relatives used to live there..and i used to dance Hawaiian when i was small my mom want me too..
I have no idea why RU-vid decided this was recommended viewing for me but damn it was right. This is fantastic. Why can’t we have that in our culture here (Australia)?
Really Samoa and New Zealand are different countries to Australia but, you are right that some of our native cultures here express themselves with song and dance. Tend to be a bit serious though. Nowhere near as much joy as these guys are exhibiting.
Graeme Doherty hula still has reverence to it. Hula was a demonstration of Chant and dance to our gods. Haka is just one aspect of Maori chant and dance. There’s a bright side to it too. You’re just seeing one side of hula right mow
I have become obsessed with this video and I am not an obsessive person. Unfortunately, I can’t get past the first guy on the right. I end up focusing on him everytime I watch this video. He is so sure of his movements so he executes them strongly and with military precision!!! When he looks down sideways and smiles & sings at the same time - ooooh ever so sexy!!! He looks like he’s a good soul, too!!! I hope his GF or wife takes good care of him and vice-versa! Pls post more videos of him! Thank you.
A : If he fir sure was going to be my teacher, I’d fly all the way to Hawaii just ti take hula lessons from him! 🥰. Even at age 70!!! 🤪 Anyway, ppl think I’m only in my 50’s (without plastic surgery!).
Bee Guys Who is plot twist? I thought the masculinity of the guy in the middle looks a bit questionable. He seems a bit too fragile and graceful for my liking but, still a good dancer.
