NIDA grantee Rajita Sinha discusses the importance of considering sex and gender differences while studying the causes and treatment of substance use disorders, including the differences between sex and gender; how stress affects men and women differently, and how various drugs can affect the sexes. Dr. Sinha is a Professor of Neurobiology and Child Study in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale University. She is the Founding Director of the Yale Stress Center that focuses on understanding the effects of stress on emotions, mood and behaviors. She is also developing and testing new pharmacological and behavioral strategies to reverse the toxic effects of stress and addictive behaviors.
