Today, we're diving into why a staggering number of young men, aged 18-32, are opting out of the workforce. It's not about a lack of jobs but a refusal to face the stress and responsibility of employment. We're talking about the NEET phenomenon-No Education, Employment, or Training-and its alarming rise.
The economy is in shambles, and our young men aren't stepping up. From declining social skills to parents coddling their adult children, this issue is snowballing. Who will defend us if the situation goes downhill? How did we get here, and what can be done? I've got the full scoop and some hard-hitting opinions on the economy, inflation, and our national debt. #ridiculous #neet #JanetYellen #wheeloffortune #iallegedly #WorkforceDecline #JoblessYouth #NeatsProblem #WorkStress #MenNotEmployed

When I retired at 61 1/2 in 2014, the attitude towards workers was, "your lucky to have a job, don't ask for a raise." Because of diminishing returns, me and many others, decided to retire early. We got a treat to watch our former, chiseler, employers have to pay people who could not do the job, a small fortune just to show up.
@HotspotsSoutheast
@HotspotsSoutheast Месяц назад
My parents were lower middle class who worked and scrimped and saved so us kids could have a better life, then they died in their late 40's and mid 50's and never got to enjoy one minute of their retirement. I decided then that life was more important than work. Yeah I work every day as a software engineer, HA! Except I'm currently laid off. Thanks for your years of service, here's your severance package. When I got laid off the last job I took early retirement. I'm getting a small paycheck every month for that. Not enough to live off but it helps. And some other side income, also not much. Add that to what little I'll get in social security and other pensions later I'll probably survive. But you can't get young people to replace people like us. They have even less motivation to do anything than we do. We're tired and broke and worn out. They haven't even started to experience what we went through and they're already giving up. And with how expensive everything is now I don't blame them.

Dan, you have the normal boomer outlook so it is understandable that you don't comprehend why these young men are checked out. As for defending this nation, why would they risk their life and limb when for the last few decades they have been told THEY are the problem? I served, as did men from every generation of my family going back but I would break my son's leg before I would allow him to go fight for the corrupt and evil people running this nation. You cannot treat people like garbage and then wonder why they don't want to kill themselves to support the system.

The only objective of parenting is to teach your child how to handle adversity, being ok with feeling uncomfortable and how to stand on their own two feet through both good and bad times. I'm getting meaner every day. One vital lesson l have learned. If they're not doing it when they talk about it, it's just the wind passing by. Show me your notes. Your effort. Your mistakes. In Houston there was a tornado thingy 5-16. It was like Christmas for the Mexicans. Tons of cleanup. The parents put them to work learning skills. Didn't see many white guys out there. Guess they were busy filling applications for college degrees jobs. There's plenty of work for those who want to work and learn a skill. The streets here are lined w good wood from downed fences. Now you don't get to talk to anybody that knows about the position the company is hiring for. Fill out an application online that then gets vetted by an algorithm, and then it gets further vetted by HR. Submitting an application online seems more like data harvesting, or to put your resume in some candidate pool for when they actually have an opening.

Hey Dan, I haven't worked in 16 years, but my story is different. My family held a 37% stake in a bank we worked at for 85 years. Bank was in fine condition (good regulatory grades) until we had a hostile takeover effort. We approached the state banking dept about buying the majority, but we needed to pay out a dividend to afford the stock purchase (we had a high cap/asset ratio and distribution would have taken us down to the state avg, so not a problem). The senior-most officer there gave us the green light, but after borrowing a pile of money and buying the shares, the superintendent then reneged which put us in a Catch 22 we couldn't get out of. Found out later those in the hostile takeover effort had contributed $$$ to the governor's campaign, and of course the governor appointed that superintendent. So a perfectly healthy 97 yr old institution was sold over politics. I was fortunate to be able to retire early, but I regretted being done like that, and really didn't want to work to pay taxes to a corrupt state that took away our property. Just lied to us plain and simple.

When I was about 16, my father told me, "The world owes you a living. Now, get up off your ass and earn it." When I was 17, I worked on the weekends and during the summer at the small privately owned lumber yard, two blocks from the house. After getting paid I would buy a few 2x4's and carry them home. I built my downstairs bedroom. After buying my father's car, (he told me, "Nothing is free in this life. Somebody somewhere pays for it." I drove to a job in the next town. While working at the lumberyard, before they sold it, they had a flyer on homes they built. I took out one of the pages displaying a two-story home with a two-car garage I liked. I told myself, some day in the future I am going to buy a house that looks something like this. As the years passed, and life went on I always kept it. I am now 67. A 30-year veteran of the US Army. Surprisingly, I was going through a storage box this week, and once again found that flyer. The home I live in now is almost the same as what I said, at 17. At 17 the woman I wanted to live with in that house didn't happen, but we are still friends after 63 years, so I came close. IF you want something in life, work for it. It may take a while, but it can happen. I am 67 now, so it took 50 years. I wasn't even thinking about it when my wife and I bought this house. After adding a front 8'x40' front porch, it transitioned, unknowingly at the time, to look like what I wanted at 17.

Nearly 50 years ago. US Army. A person was supposed to be physically fit and a high school graduate, but the standard was not always followed. I was shocked at how many men had not been up and ready to work at 7 a.m., had never made a bed, never cooked a meal, never shot a gun, never camped out. We had films on how to brush your teeth, etc. Years later, I spoke to member of the nursing school staff at a major university who said that the female nursing students were even worse. They had to be taught how to wipe themselves so that they did not get infected. So, this is nothing new. There is the 40 year plus student on the block who doesn't work and the student in his mid twenties who never held a job and never had a date. Dan applies his cultural values to the situation. They are protestant middle class values. Not everyone lives that way in the world. However, let us assume that you do and I, as well. So let's throw stones at people who don't want to work. Questions: 1. Do you have a closet full of shoes/clothing that are torn, ripped or the wrong size? Well, it is clear that you don't want to work. 2. Do you have a written estate plan that includes a trust, will and health care powers? 90% of the people don't. Well, it is clear that you don't want to work. One day, my elementary school son complained to me. He thought it was unfair that I paid for his meals at school. He went onto expand. I would come and pay to eat breakfast with the kids and no other parent did so. Mothers never came and they did not work and he had no mother. The other kids had money and would throw away their free meal tickets and buy candy. I told him not to worry about unfairness and to concentrate on what he was doing. So, he bought candy by the case and sold it at school. Almost 40 years later, he sells candy on the internet too.

When women started working outside of the home divorce rates went up, crime went up with minors, and the family home became broken. I asked myself, is it low testosterone? Is it because of laziness? Is it because the women are getting most of the jobs or because they are the only ones applying? Whatever it is, family is truly becoming non-existent. I was fortunate, my husband worked, and I stayed home and raised our children, took care of him, and our home. I wish those days would come back. God Bless.

You not having a work ethic is not him being out of touch. It's you, lacking in the most important aspect of life. I'm Gen-X and have done more before age 40 than most of your generation does their whole lives. I'm now living the life I've always wanted, due to hard work. Life is not free, baby jefe.

I’m 71 lived in SoCal my entire life and I can tell you that for him to get his first house at age 20, based on his age, which is in his 50’s, is not something many SoCalifornians achieved in his age group! I’d love to know how he did it. It’s not the norm, that’s for sure.

I can’t wait to retire. I’m still on my game but it’s just not worth it anymore. I’d rather skimp financially until social security and medicare kicks in. Big corporations are a joke. Always some repackaged culture initiative every time you get a new CEO. Non stop compliance training for common sense topics. DEI initiatives. ESG bullsh**t. Talking out both sides of their mouths. We love our employees but never get any raises and we lay you off the second there’s an opportunity to cut costs. We’ve got a generation of short term thinkers who have risen to the top. There are going to be lots of companies going out of business as the economy sours. The market always prevails. It’s going to be bloody.

I live in my parents basement. They don't want to live in the basement, but I do. This isn't fair. I should be living upstairs and them living in the basement. I'm frustrated because my mother didn't want to borrow me some money so I can get my medicational weed. I need weed because I have a lot of anxiety. I haven't smoked weed for two days now and I'm already having suicidal thoughts. I told this to my parents and they don't care.

I know a guy (aged 46, single) who quit his job in 2020 and is homeless since, all by his own choice. He has quite a good amount of cash savings, but he goes around looking for free food offered by various charities. He says he will only look for a job after this health crisis is over. But just recently, I have found out that he's still hanging around doing nothing, and not looking for any job. He's still going around looking for free food.

1964/ Boy's Day. LAUSD. I go to the Woodland Hills branch of the public library. I am impressed. Young men and women in the middle of the day in the children's reading section. They are going to teach children. I like that there are young men who will go into teaching. I was wrong. These were purported high school graduates from Pierce Junior College. They would be admitted only after they learned to read! So, Dan, don't assume everyone is capable. It is true that Hack Hackworth, one of the most decorated soldiers in American history enrolled in the military under age, was caught and tossed out. And, it is also true that General James Gavin who made three parachute drops in WW2 dropped out of high school to join the military and have three meals a day. The US army caught the 13 year old in our company and missed the 2 15 year olds. I remember a group of officers going through the barracks and asking if anyone was interested in going to West Point and getting a college education. No takers. I was already assigned to the Pentagon.

I think a lot of people men and women both that have given up on life. I started working for myself at 13... my brother started at 10 doing lawns clean up... we grew up in a family that had a lot of financial challenges my Dad was disabled my Mom worked two jobs and took in sewing. It wasnt easy but we did it. Working for yourself is the best way to earn a living. You control your business and your life...Want raise, work it out to make more money. You answer to yourself in the end. This mindset is taught. kids who give up have give up parents. Its simple... Now at retirement age I run a trucking company with drivers ect. Why so my husband is employed without corporate bs and I am employed without corporate bs. Your kids will never be motivated if you are not motivated. You are not free if you work for someone else... love your show Dan keep spreading the word about small business and the owner opportunities out there😊
