Jacob just looked so relaxed during both his races. He was just looking around and waiting until he needed to take off. He had no problem at all winning this even though at 17 he should not have been at this level yet. He could become the one non-African to break up the distance events globally in the future.
I wouldn't go as far to call him the best European distance runner, there have been much more acomplished runners such as Coe, Mekhissi or Stefano Baldini, but I agree Jakob is the most Exciting emerging talent not only in Europe, but around the World along with Rhonex, Cheptegei and Kejelcha, and a sure bet to become the greatest in Europe in a few years time!
Turning the head and celebrating before crossing the finishing line will cost the runner some seconds as one will naturally slow down and worse still someone might just overtake.
i don’t think i’d call 4th and 5th losing big; he just barely missed the podium. that’s pretty good for a 19yo runner competing on one of the biggest stages in athletics. to be the best in Europe before you peak means you’ve got a fair shot at some day being the best in the world
