Great race by all of them. Respect to Graham Blanks for making the move when no one else would. Though maybe he was being a bit too gutsy. All the same nice to see him rounding back into shape after his injury. Nico needed at least 1k to put that win in the bag, left it until too late. Congrats to Parker Wolfe! He finally did it!

There is nothing wrong with Nico, he ran an excellent race. Wolfe was always there next to Nico in many other races so it was a matter of time. Besides these two. there are other young American talents on the rise. This is exciting for the USA!

Nico should thank Graham Blanks for starting the stretch with 800 to go. If it doesn't happen then, with at least one person willing to make it a race, Nico could have gotten swamped by even more fast finishers and been worse than second.

nico really messed up. Gotta wonder about the coaches. Was that the race plan to run a light jog then kick the last two laps??? Why not run everyone into the ground from the gun like Jakob does especially since he didn't do the 10k either

This has to be a huge confidence boost for Parker, because he finally beat Nico (a top NAU runner) and it was for a championship. Can’t get any better than that. That last 250m when he started to accelerate. I was rooting for him! I also feel bad for Graham, because he was the one that made the gutsy move, but got dropped. He should still be proud though.

Shoutout to Graham blanks for his smart tactical racing. He looks like he wasn’t feeling his best and by making that move at 800 to go he copped himself a 5th place instead of leaving everything and everyone in contention till the final 400 where he probably would have gotten lost in the mayhem and not placed higher than like 10th.

if you're nico young, wouldn't you actually race it like Jakob Ingebritsen? Why leave it to chance by trying to out kick someone? You should go out and race as hard has you can and make people actually work instead of run slow an hope for the best.

Jakobs race doesnt always work. Look at the past 2 world championships. I always enjoy his races because its fast, but historically tactical finals are better for winning the race

Slow race evident by how they were still bunched up with only a few laps to go. Nico should have gone a lot earlier and not allow the speed demons to be there in the end.

Typical conference/ncaa TITLE race. Bunch of runners jog around the track for 75% of the race distance, then a few racers try to out-kick each other - must be a lot of pressure from the schools/coaches to be a NCAA champion.

This loss is on Mike Smith. You have the strongest athlete in the field and set out at a pedestrian pace. Very poorly executed. Nico should have burned everyone in the 1st 5K and just cruised to the finish.

Parker has been getting stronger over the coming months and is a low-13s level of 5k runner. You all act like Nico could've just run away from the field at a faster pace with ease. Nico has also outkicked this level of field many times before, so he understandably feels like he can do it again. It was a close race. You lot are being dismissive of the competition

These coaches really gotta work on tactics with these guys. Even at this slow of a pace, lane 3 around curves is ridiculous. You’re ruining the point of the slow pace. The only reason to be swinging out there is when you’re ready to move up to the front. Otherwise, just hang out my guys.

A winning time of nearly 14:00…I hope Young and Sahlman learn from this something they should’ve already known: when you’re the fastest and most talented, allowing a championship race to be run at a slow pace only gives more runners the chance to beat you. I continue to shake my head of the stupidity of “tactical” racing. I think Centrowitz’s gold medal taught the world’s best that lesson, and it’s been a long time since the it’s been allowed to happen on the world stage.

@@4Dangertshe really isn’t knowledgeable. She had no idea what Nico is going to run at the trials. He is definitely running the 10k because only him and grant fisher have the standard I believe. She was talking about ky representing Australia bur he already ran his trials. She did not mention Yaseen representing his country or Marco Langon. She is just reading a script

Nico is a 12:57 5k runner, this was a full minute slower than his PB. By failing to push the pace early, he let this turn into a 200m kick situation which he clearly is not suited for....if the pace was 2-6 seconds faster per lap, we wouldn't have seen this situation. Let this be a lesson to all runners looking to win, push the pace or....else...

I have to imagine that athletes with serious dreams and possibilities of representing their country at the Olympics this Summer didn't come down fully for NCAA championships. A good performance at the Olympics is worth a lot more than an NCAA title.

You would get more views if you didn't show the winner. Seriously, like why? Track and field doesn't get enough coverage as it is, and when you want to catch up, it's anti-climactic.
