I have been dressing "Preppy" since about 1977 now, and there's no doubt in my mind that I have acquired the most jaw-dropping wardrobe here in Boston. But, being well-dressed in this town also takes very little effort!

There seems to be lots of elite slobs in Boston, less interested in fashion than in fusion. His roomie declared that Jon Jon was Big Slob on Campus. Once, I was in the same room with John Kennedy, and he looked more impeccable, and perfect, than any leading dork in Hollywood. Also, very desirable, as a friend, of course. We were having business together, him as attorney, me as juror. He was better at Looking than at Lawyering. I did see him often in Central Park, me and everyone else. Really, really, very desirable without his shirt and long pants. That man didn't even need a sweater. Very. Really. Just awesome. One of the 7 Wonders, in captivity. I always thought he had good taste, but that girl was not a good fit.

I like linen shirts in the summer. I wear them with chinos, linen pants and shorts. White linen shirts are my favorites. Sperry shoes are nice in the summer. Polo shirts in various colors, even long sleeved are in my closet.

I've got lots of boat shoes. And I've just this past summer gotten into Espadrilles type loafers. And linen. I've got linen shorts, long pants and shirts. And long sleeves Polo shirts, including Merino wool for cool weather. Will be looking for a linen suit for next summer, and Nantucket red pants. And the madras style looks cool.

As an Ancient Mariner I have looked forward to this day with open arms. Can this be? A revived interest in looking nice? Amazing. Who would ever have thought it? I had assumed all my dockers were doomed to a continued life of dust and neglect. Now, all I have to do to feel comfortable going out is to open my closet door. Have any of you converts considered donating all those T-shirts of yours to a needy landfill ? And for g's sake, get some sport coats that cover your ass. You all look like half-assed women going down the street. If you guys want to flash some ass, it should be all. Or nothing. Girls wear butt-highs to attract males in heat. Boys might examine the close association between your navel and your waist. Looking like a prisoner with a mal-nourished flat butt hanging down, and out, seems politically incorrect for these times. Preppy eschews tacky. At all costs. What good is a bright and smiling face if your butt is dark and smelly ?

I only wear Ralph and have a Polo outfit for every climate and occasion because you can dress it up or down and be as preppy or as hood as you want to.

I liked this video. I went to high school in the late 80s and Polo Ralph Lauren was seen as the epitome of preppy style among my peers. Now., penny loafers, various colored chinos and short sleeve polo shirts in bright colors are still my favorite things to wear. Ralph Lauren is still my favorite for the huge number of colors offered. Thanks for the video. Foster Lee

I find that my madras shorts, polo shirt and boat shoes are my main go tos for my summer leisure activities, for work I usually wear chinos, ocbd's with loafers or semi formal shoe.

Breton long and short sleeve shirts, horizontal and vertical strip crew and turtle neck pullovers, cardigans, henley shirts, high mountain boots, dark, medium and washed denim shirts, jeans, vests hats and jackets. Short and long leather jackets and coats. Double breasted coats. Rugby and American football jerseys, coach jackets, long player rain coats

Khakis are my go to pants for everyday wear for all but the hottest weather. I wear Polo shirts in the summer; OCBDs for the spring and fall. When it's cool/cold, I'm in a Rugby. Clarks Dessert Boots have replaced running shoes for every day wear.

It sounds like you have a tried and true rotation. I'll wear OCBDs all year round, and just roll the sleeves up in the summer. I'm working on the Fall/Winter guide for this style right now, and it will be out shortly. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. :)

I'm an old queen, the same age as old people. I have never forgotten Robert Kennedy on the campaign trail, so dynamic, so sexy, in his Oxford shirt and tie, his sleeves rolled to his elbows, a working class look, but one that made him so endearing to Everyone. We loved Robert Kennedy, most of us, but he always seemed to irritate the Republicans. Truly, one of the darkest days of my life. Bobby, did I ever tell you you were my hero? ( Not to be confused by anyone else using his name to campaign. Bobby Kennedy was someone to be admired, someone to respect.)

1:20 brogues are, by their very nature, not formal. First, the broguing pattern comes from blue collar workers who needed water that accumulated in their boots to be filtered out, hence the holes. Second, the shoes displayed in this video have derby lacing instead of oxford lacing. Third, as is the case with most derby laced shoes, these shoes are double soled. Fourth, brown shoes are not formal. Black shoes are formal. Brogued derbys, like these, are best worn in a dressed down setting, such as walking in the park or in nature (which is even suggested by the surroundings in the picture).

I believe Ralph L. or Lacoste polos are not that chic as in the past, loosing their glamour. One can now see in Europe more and more long sleeve shirts with Henley or with normal buttons layout. Good video, thank you!

@@QuintessentialGent I feel like the term "ivy league" seems to fit what OP is looking for. Tweed blazers with elbow patches, corduroys, varsity jackets. When I think of prep, I tend to think more nautical vibes of New England and the South.

The style transcends the culture, so I decided to strictly focus this video to the style. Feel free to create a video to cover the cultural aspect fi you like. I personally find it limiting and far less interesting. The European or Asian adoption and adaptation of preppy style if far more interesting.
