@@Geen182 Offhand I'd say, Mendelsohn 1, 4 and 5 (#1 is like Mozart on steroids; gorgeous!); Brahms 1, 3 and 4; Sibelious 2; Mozart 25, 39-41; Saint-Sohns 1and 2; Beethoven 6; Tchaikovsky 6; Schuman 4; Schubert 9, and a few more
Mendelssohn was one of the main pillars of the Romantic period. His symphonies are masterpieces, which touch us deeply. His sensitivity and musical talent are unmistakable. The harmony is unequaled and the delicacy of his superb music is fantastic. The sound of the orchestra and its direction are sublime. There are moments that are truly from another world, alternating periods of great intensity with others of reflective calm. This symphony is a masterpiece composed by an amazing musician. Thanks for this glorious recording, who provided unforgettable moments of my life.
One can't even imagine what a journey to and through Scotland looked like in the 19th century. Today Edinburgh is a 2-hour-flight away from Western Germany, and then you can go by a comfortable car. Back then it was sailing and going by coaches, always in danger of very harmful accidents. Mendelssohn even went to Staffa which is still not without dangers today, at least to get off the boat. There is a quite worth reading book by German author Theodor Fontane who went to Scotland 30 years after Mendelssohn, "Beyond the Tweed", where the circumstances of travelling back then are documented quite unflattering. Anyway, there was no B&B-comfort, and people going there must have been people searching for even more wilderness experience than nowadays. And then think what music Mendelssohn created out of this experience. Absolutely amazing. When I went to Staffa with my wife we where humming the "Hebrides" on and on, partly to ignore the seasickness, but mainly to set the frame for this unique experience. You can leave Scotland, but Scotland never leaves you since you were there.
Thanks so much to the hr-Sinfonieorchester for sharing so many outstanding performances with the global music community, with none of those annoying advertisements!
It would be actually illegal to put advertisement on it. Cause it's already paid by German viewers and they cannot be charged twice, fees + advertisement. Tricky copyright and competition law.
Who but magic maestro Andrès can master these Mendelsohn soundscapes as a pearl of emotion and fascination. And his great musical primordial power and concentration reaches into evry single artist of my dream team hr-Sinfonie , it is magnificent.
So grateful for these pandemic performances to keep orchestras alive and thrilling all of us! Helping my journey through Mendelssohn! Thank you, FRS and maestro A O-E!!
Absolutely beautiful. I am so grateful that they still share such wonderful music for free on RU-vid. I missed concerts this year, but the special online events are just as heart-warming. Thank you, have a happy and safe new year.
Wonderful to see the intensity of the players in this performance. The respect they have for the music is clear. This is a very fine orchestra and conductor. Thank You.
Many thanks to my most loved online orchestra and its lively current maestro for a sensitive and spirited performance of this wondrous Mendelssohn. Reassuring to see my favorite orchestral flutist Clara Andrada "back in the saddle again" -- as we say out here in the western USA (what is left of it). Such a blessing all of you are, including your production crew, for radiating your gifts so beautifully around this suffering planet in these devastating times. "Let us not forget the best of what makes us human."
The first movement requires tension, and this performance had that. This is the best I have heard since I lot my vinyl recording of the Pittsburgh Symphony conducted by William Steinberg. I love this orchestra, they do everything so well.
Wow - this was amazing! - And it's so great, to hear this without any audience, coughing and applauding at the wrong times :-) Mister Andres Orozca-Estrada in best shape! Thank you - Happy to pay my RUNDFUNKGEBÜHREN for this!
But for a Performance without coughing and clapping you could also buy the music. And which you should do anyway if you like listening to music. The musicians you see here are doing this for a living and it's hard work to reach this excellence.
0:20 I. Andante con moto - Allegro un poco agitato 17:58 II. Vivace non troppo 22:30 III. Adagio 32:38 IV. Allegro vivacissimo - Allegro maestoso assai
Thank you so much for making this superb performance of Mendelssohn's Scottish Symphony available to the wider music world. Wonderful playing and insight, with superb rhythmic control and ensemble. In Scotland I visited Oban today, from where Mendelssohn sailed to Staffa Island and saw Fingal's cave, and your music truly resonated with this stunning location. Vielen dank! Gordon U.K.
Well done HRSO! Great performance of this lovely symphony. To my ears, the distancing of the performers adds something to the experience. Thanks to all of you.
Beautifully played. The balance between sections is perfect with even the kettle drum having just the right volume. Thanks for sharing such a fine performance.
Vielen Dank y muchisimas gracias!
Few songs go that deep. It's really nice when I know a song and she's like that. I discovered this symphony 2 days ago and I still can't find a word to describe it. The first movement is simply spectacular... I can't control my emotions when I hear it. I even get a little breathless... 🤣 🇧🇷
I am forever grateful for the ability to listen to the world's very best renditions of classical music! From my point of view, the best reason for the existence of RU-vid! Happy New year 2022 to all at FRS .... your reputation is highly deserved!
Bravo. The music was played beautifully and with real feeling. I applaud this talented Orchestra and superb Conductor Andres Orozco-Estrada. Thank you for giving the listeners such joy and heart warming music! So many musicians of high quality!
A vastly moving performance of this wonderful music. Without wishing to detract from the music in its entirety I confess the 1st movement held a special place in my life from the moment I heard it as a child: a wild, windswept melancholic landscape, a pinnacle of expressive writing. Effusive thanks to all concerned.
Was für ein großartiger Job, wenn Sie so großartige Konzerte auf You Tube geben! Vielen Dank !!! Stehender Applaus !!!!
Thank Meldelssohn, Tchaikovsky and the video owner, who recover me from a relationship breakdown with ex-. Classic music is holy pure, it really has a big place in my heart.
I have to add, this is a great version of this. I love that they held back the tempo on the last mvt/the long Coda. That mvt only works if it is played in the most grand manner possible. Many orchestras rush thru it, but these people did it right. Bravo!

ERST DANN! Ist Schluss! This wonderful and graceful performance will quench and moisturize my parched soul The greatness of Mendelssohn and this fabulous orchestra's capability and incomparable conductor's ability are immeasurable and unfathomable and beyond description From Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵 From Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵
One of the great symphonies of all time---right up there with #40,The Jupiter, Beethoven's 5th, Schuberts Unfinished,Dvoraks New world symphony---just marvelous. Felix Mendelssohns early death, like Mozarts, Schuberts,Chopins & Gershwins was a tragedy of the highest order. He had more to go, and I am sure had he lived a little longer he would have put out a few more great symphonies and concertos.Sigh.
Terrifc playing in every way. The smaller orchestra allows the performance to be precise and clear. And all the excellent players are totally involved. Inspiring to see and with musical results that are superb.
The greatest of Mendelssohn's symphonies. And to my knowledge, the first ever with instructions from the composer for the movementsw to follow one another without applause.
