Your mate you described who struggles with anxiety eg McDs ordering. The anxiety is the manifestation of the real issue which is likely to be related to rigid thinking, struggling with transitioning, struggling with short term working memory, auditory processing and/or a bunch of other things that are common in people who are dyslexic, dyspraxia, adhd and autism. Understanding why helps an individual figure out with or without a therapist how to mitigate the reaction

I think there is a lack of understanding of highly intelligent young people and being identified as having autism or adhd. A lot of the ‘symptoms’ only become apparent when they are slightly older as they are able to create strategies to work around things from a young age. Also the intensity and difficulty of school work is not particularly challenging to them at a young age so their poor focus and concentration is not affecting their performance. I’ve seen many young people who perform highly or at least averagely at junior school and are not flagged as having an issue. It’s not until they get to GCSEs or A-levels or university when the work is more complex and require sustained attention that it becomes apparent that something is going on. Tom, having up and down moods is not limited to bipolar. Not having a go at you but it’s like someone who is a bit particular claiming to have OCD. OCD is a crippling disorder. Bipolar is a crippling disorder. Being a bit mood swingy isn’t bipolar. It’s normal and consistent with most forms of ND and also with introverted people Love what you guys are doing for this space

Hi Lorna love this! I think alot of my up and downs with work come with my ADHD. Not bipolar, wasn’t meant to place the point I have it because I don’t have bipolar disorder. Was very interesting to chat about bipolar disorder but was not meant to be the premise of that chat thinking we had it. Thanks for the support as always! 👊🏼
