👋🏻 Hey everyone! In this video, I wanted to be a bit more open and vulnerable to tackle a topic which has become increasingly more important to me - Mental Health in Medicine.
For all the amazing parts of the job, I think the toll on mental health can be a particularly difficult one to deal with. I talk about some of the difficult aspects of the job, as well as what techniques and strategies I use to help me manage them.

I am a student pilot and the past year has been quite tough. I was studying for EASA exams, had to move to a totally new city to save some money and in March my mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer stage 3B. To keep my mental health in check, I found that exercising and/or playing sports for an hour or so really helped me. I try to stay away from screens (iPhone, TV, computer, tablet, ...) because eventually i feel more drained after watching a movie or just scrolling the night away. Thank you for sharing your experiences and study methods. They have been a great help and inspiration. Looking forward to the next episodes :-) Take care!

Thank you Nasir for share your fragility in such a difficult profession. In much other careers we also deal with clients problems and it can be really exhausting. Learn to keep a bit away let you more mental capacity and belive us that patients do not need so much attention but effectivenees from our doctors. Tough topic, but thank you for putting into words what we deal with everyday as doctors and how mentally, emotionally and physically draining it can be. I think this often does not get talked about and people outside healthcare are rarely aware of it. This can lead to an expectation of healthcare professionals to be perfect, to never make any mistakes and never struggle. When I started working as a doctor I had major self doubts, noticing myself seriously struggle but beating myself up about it at the same time. Realizing that everybody struggles really helped.

I see this in my premed students who have mental health crisis.Even as a student I have had the opportunity to help a student in a mental health crisis where the the help where the student health mental professionals are overworked .I have mentioned many times our only job is to help people not negotiable ,what better way even in undergrad before medical school to help other students if help in studies academic integrity etc of course not allow being minipulated

Have you heard of Dr. Joe Dispenza and His work? He has some incredible books like 1. Breaking the habit of being yourself 2. Your are the placebo 3. Becoming supernatural Also i think using typing as a journaling method is okay but i suggest on days when you feel extremely sad, angry, frustrated or heavy try writing with pen on loose sheet of paper and then when you are done just burn the paper and flush the ash in the toilet. See how it feels! Best wishes to you🙂
