Control your feelings. Never allow others to control you. If you can’t do this then you need help. A normal person will not allow others to control them or theirs feelings. Those that have this is stem from child hood issues. Remember that the things that happened while you grew up should not follow you into adulthood.

Much love! Have seen a lot of negativity in the situation... and just blah. There has been a lot of that in the past; and have seen my fair share of negative comments on my videos at times. Am thankful for the kind and amazing people that have been around though, and try to focus on that. Been a struggle to force myself on camera lately, like winding up a spring that has lost it's ability to be wound. It's hard to be public. Please be kind; people are hurting... and the world needs to heal.

DroneCamps made it a shitstorm for himself. He shouldn't have sent the cease and desist if he didn't want to make it a big drama and get negative comments.
@Art1f4ct
@Art1f4ct 3 месяца назад
He shouldn't have sent the letter, but does that warrant the entire FPV community to mobilize itself and cancel him in response? Not only is cancel culture incredibly cruel, but in the end, what do we expect to accomplish for our community? The content creators involved had already responded to DroneCamps's offense in a professional, productive, and, importantly, polite way. This was the most probable way for DroneCamps to go back on his decision and apologize for the behavior. In my opinion, Bardwell went a little harder than necessary in his emails, but I can understand that he probably felt threatened for his friend, too. However, the community response DEFINITELY didn't help the situation. Emotions flew loose and miscalculations were made. Hundreds or thousands of individuals typed and regurgitated the same things the involved creators had already said, but many comments expressed amplified tonality. What should anyone expect out of DroneCamps at this point? Contrary to (surprisingly) popular belief, alienating an individual does NOT get them to cooperate. It does precisely the opposite- it backs them into a corner and activates their defense mechanisms, locking them into a downhill battle. And that's exactly what we're seeing- DC has doubled down on defending his position, even though we all know that his specific reasons are total bulls**t. Time and time again, too many people forget or simply ignore this, and in the end, nobody is happy. I'm not happy. You aren't happy, nor is DroneCamps, Botgrinder, or anyone else. If DroneCamps's mental health wasn't bad before, you can bet as hell it's shot now. And it if WAS bad before, then this could end tragically. Mental health is a serious issue, and I hope you can understand that sometimes right and wrong cease to matter in situations like this. Our objective at this point shouldn't be to say "he should have done Y instead" or "he should do B now," but rather, it should just be to do what WE should do. And sometimes, what we should do- what's right for humanity and most beneficial for our beloved hobby, is to do nothing.

@@Art1f4ct you talk about “cancel culture” as if it hasn’t always existed, regardless of when through history you go or where you go, if someone does something that the people around them don’t agree with then they will get negative comments or treatment towards them, that is just how society works and has always worked. When people put themselves out to a larger audience then the effects are also larger. I am not responsible for anyone else’s actions or mental health. Mental health is not an excuse or shield against everything. You are basically saying we should never say anything negative incase it upsets someone, do you not see any problem with that? People don’t get a free pass just because they are upset or depressed. “We” do not need to consider what “we” should do at all, the majority of people have done nothing wrong. There is an easy solution here for him, admit fault and apologise and then people would have moved on by now, but instead he doubled down on it and still refuses to admit fault and continues to act like a child, in his comments sections he has been throwing insults at botgrinder, JB and blunty, particularly blunty, saying he smells and lives in his mums basement.
@Art1f4ct
@Art1f4ct 3 месяца назад
@@conorstewart2214I don't believe I implied anywhere that cancel culture hasn't always existed. I do need to amend, though, that I personally usually use the term with a negative connotation to represent events involving at least some toxicity (and usually occurring over the Internet), but I believe my usage is a bit inaccurate. I agree, though, that the underlying process of boycotting and calling-out (which are better ways to describe cancel culture anyways) is an important part of how our society functions. We humans need to get along and cooperate to thrive and survive, and the pain mechanism of social rejection is an important aspect that keeps our individual behaviors in line with what is best for our society. I didn't mean to shift the blame entirely to "us" for taking part in it. I do not believe that we should never say anything negative, but I believe there are limits to the amount of negativity we should express. Admittedly, though, I cannot objectively define where that limit should be. Drawing the line between overprotection and toxicity is impossible because it depends on the situation (plus the individual) and it depends on how much you value individual versus group wellbeing, which of course is a battle that has been and always will be swinging one way or another. The purpose of cancel culture, and other forms of criticism, is to correct an individual's thinking or behavior. From what I've witnessed on the Internet, though, hate speech on the scale of events like this one seldom accomplish that role, and more often than not, it results in the offender doubling down on their position, pushing back harder and harder as the public objection increases, which as you pointed out is exactly what we're seeing from DC. I believe that this is caused by the fight-or-flight instinct (animals fight when severely threatened and flee when mildly threatened), but I don't know enough about these topics to be able to claim that this is actually true. This is a difficult line to walk because the words above make it sound like I'm saying individuals such as DC have "no control" of themselves but of course that isn't true. However, we are not logical machines. We are human, and countless chemical mechanisms like this are always affecting our behaviors. You claim that admitting fault and apologizing should be easy for DC, but it simply isn't. Regardless of the exact situation, this same plot plays out the exactly the same every time. DC, or someone else in his position, does something stupid or reckless, gets canceled, and turns aggressive in response, devolving to their basic animal instincts while they fight for their life (from their perspective). When the community backs off, they can cool down, but when they don't, they remain engaged in a pointless battle that only causes more harm to everyone involved. You are not responsible for anyone else's actions or mental health, but you do have a voice, and your voice does have an impact. People on the Internet are more likely to say harsher things while worrying less about their consequences- for one, you don't have to worry about being punched in the face, and for two, you typically don't see their reaction to your words, which would typically trigger some degree of empathy. You may think you know how the words will be received by DC, but the fact is that you cannot know for sure. You may think you know how he feels, but that's less likely than you think to be true (and the same for me of course; my entire position is built around the /possibility/ that he feels as I suspect, but I cannot deny the possibility that he is just a sellout douche after all). The ending of my last comment was worded poorly. What I should have concluded was that we should say no more needless defamation or insults to DC (especially the insults). But yes, we should still respond according to our takes- unsubscribing and ceasing to watch his videos, for example. And what was already said by Botgrinder and his friends who spread the word was also necessary to an extent, because without any of that, casuals like me might not even know what happened. Additionally, I meant to say that *this* act of cancelation was pointless, and that was why we should do nothing. My conclusion is based on my own and others' interpretation that DC is not responding logically, and he will not back down, so we should quit trying to persuade him. The longer this runs for, the worse off our hobby and community becomes.

That attitude is for children, and your mother was right to teach it to you as a child. However, as an adult that no longer applies. It basically means "try not to hurt anyone's feelings". Which, these days, means worrying about every word you say, every thing you laugh at, everything you do, hoping not to offend someone. That's no way to live. We need to move back to accepting criticism, accepting the fact that sometimes we don't agree and don't all get along. That was more wholesome than "be nice or be quiet". Seems safer, to me, in many aspects, also.

You were one of the first FPV channels I started watching when I joined back in 2017. You and Bardwell is how I got in to the hobby per say. His were a bit more dry and informative, yours were more light hearted, entertaining, but still instructive. My first 5" build was after watching a few of your "$100 drone build" or whatever they were called videos where you basically did a full build start to finish on camera. I liked that you felt a bit more rough around the edges, made mistakes, and just made it work. (That isn't meant as a cut either. It showed you are human. Also it shows key things that a lot of newbies don't think about, problem resolution! How to make a mistake, how to learn from it, and how to fix it!)

I agree about your points on mental health. The issue here though is, that DC lashes out like that every time he is mentioned in a negative way. Instead of contacting the person he threatens straight away, and then, when people get back at him he starts shouting “cyber bully”. Getting offended is one thing; his reaction and actions are another.
@doccock100

you have just written your own thesis on evidence that DC shows the signs of someone who is vulnerable. Is a trapped animal that bites deserving of retribution. Does the following sound reasonable Individual A makes a seemingly negative comment Individual B reacts inappropriately as they are not balanced Everyone piles on to give Individual B a good psychological kicking Would you understand that people piling on, are responsible for the damage caused to individual B as much as individual B is responsible for their actions to individual A. He is saying "try not do become the mob thowing punches". Stu understands. I hope you are able to look a little further.

I love you Stu. Mental health is among the hardest to treat. It's among the least understood diseases. One thing we do know is that it's not the fault of the one who is suffering from it and it's absolutely essential we remember that. It's a complex neurochemical issue without an easy fix. However we have both medication and therapy options that really do work but we must remain patient and remember that there's much more going on under the surface than we realize. But this should give us hope that if we stay the course and follow the process we will improve even if we don't think it's possible. We truly can get better

Hi Stew, Great to hear that you are able to find help for your ADD, I have been in a accident that left me in a wheelchair, I was 31 when it happened. I fight every morning when I wake-up, I have to fight the pain just to get to the bathroom and it never stops. I don't know what is going on with Justin and Bot i haven't heard anything about them. Thanks for the video and information about them two.

Stu, agree with you all the way on this. Love your channel and what you do for the hobby. Likewise with Botgrinder and DroneCamps. Send love not hate and we can all get along. Life's too short to hold a grudge. Hope all involved can make amends, shake hands (metaphorically) and move on.

I have serious mental health issues. I get what you're saying. However, I think this should stress the importance on the individual to get help. The world is scary and hard. I had to face it alone and find my way in my darkest moment. I thought I would die. But I just lit a Blount and got to work. I'm stronger now and more confident. I recommend letting the discomfort wash over you and sit in it every day. It's cathartic af

Good on ya Stu. You got me interested (in FPV) and I have followed you for ages. Recently got a couple of sims (nice stuff) and tried with xbox controller (I was terrible) but I just got the Radiomaster Pocket controller and funny enough I'm kinda having a freeze on using it as my grandson commented that I had practised for 30 hours to be this shit at at it. It was true. So you have encouraged me and I'm kinda slowly gonna crawl back out from under my rock and give it another try starting tonight. No more negative thoughts.

because you asked, Stu, I basically quit making drone videos, something that I was once very passionate about, all because every video I posted, pretty much immediately got disliked, then proceeded to get twice as many dislikes as likes, if any likes at all, but a guaranteed dislike. So yeah, I know it was just some troll doing it on purpose, and you know what, it worked... now I barely even ever fly a drone anymore, yet I keep buying the damn things

I have seen most all the drama videos posted on this subject lately and this will be my first post. Stu you are awesome. I really appreciate what you had to say. In this world where everything has become so divisive it’s a super bummer to see it hit this community …. Most of us have been around long enough to know the strengths and weaknesses of each of our influencers. I watch bot grinder when I feel like taking a walk on the wild side.. (usually with volume down or muted haha) I watch drone camps and your channel to see pilots that just love flying just about anything. I’ve always noticed drone camps high ratings but chalked it up to his love for the hobby not shilling for pay. Bardwell is the master teacher, rotor riot always try’s some crazy new way to fly. Ken Heron is the class clown.. so funny. Original dobo is that guy that tells you exactly how he feels and doesn’t much care what you think about it… etc, etc, etc…. I’m super thankful to all of our “influencers” and the many hard hours of work they put in to give us content to watch. ❤

I've always thought that since I started flying in 2017 the toxicity in the hobby has unfortunately grown over the years and drama seems to be the norm. Social media makes it too easy for trolls and keyboard warriors to get away with the complete disregard for others mental health. That one comment or situation can be all it takes for someone to give it all up - or worse. Everyone reacts to criticism in different ways. It's such a niche hobby we all need to look out for each other 🙂

Neutral, not mutual, ha ha. There was another word swap or mistake before that too. Oh yes, you hoped people didn't have mental health, forgot to say "problems", you meany! :-D You're a good dude. You have a genuine energy that oozes out in every vid.

Seen too much of this sort of stuff, I still go by, " if you( or I ) don't like it, move on." My mental wellness does not begin or end, or even get affected by, a bunch of strangers who don't know me at all. I've been called a bunch of stuff by people with no right. My only job is NOT to join them , in the bottom feed. My mental health online mantraa.
@clifffield1

This is the bit that scares me about all this - That someone's mental health might be balancing so precariously that comments on the internet drive them over the edge. Fix the underlying issues first, methinks (we've all been there at some stage). Staying away from the web (as practically as you can) is probably a good option if things are not looking good mentally. The internet shows human nature in an unfiltered way, and it's never going to be a 'nice' place, per se. There's a heap of good, and a heap of bad. I like your philosophy.

I feel like sometimes we forget that other people are actual humans. I run a business in the FPV world, and I try very hard to remember that I'm dealing with people, not customers, or associates or target markets or suppliers - these are all real, living, feeling human beings. I try to do this not because it's good for business (in many cases it's not!), but because we are all in this together. It's so easy to de-humanize someone just because they are an avatar or a username or a youtube account or a sales rep or whatever. Doing that makes the world worse.

G’day Stu. And today I found out you’re back on RU-vid. I used to watch your channel a lot when I was starting out. My first drone was based on one of your build a drone for less than $99 videos. I still have and fly it. With some updated components now. But it got me flying and crashing. I got more in to the fixed wing side of the hobby, and concentrated there for a few years. But over the last year, I’ve been getting back in to quads. Now I have fun with them both. Though my quad flying still sucks 😄 I just want to say it’s so good to see you back and most importantly doing well. Your videos are always fun and entertaining, plus you do have some great tips for beginners. Which helped me out a lot in the early days. Best of luck for the future. Just my 2 cents on the Bot/Drone Camps situation. I guess the video must have hurt Justin. But he really made the situation worse for himself. If I hadn’t known about the legal action. I wouldn’t have even known Drone Camps was being called out. The section with the video thumbnails was so short. I didn’t really pay attention to whose videos they were and thought they were from a bunch of RU-vidrs. Unfortunately, Justin’s actions have only increased the amount of damage the whole situation has impacted him and his channel. I hope it all calms down and people move on. With all the other shit that’s going on in the world with over-regulation, corporates trying to take the airspace, general propaganda against drones and RC. We should all be working together and enjoying the hobby. All aspects too. Fixed wing, drones, buggies. Whatever makes you happy.

The problem is had DC not gone off the deep end and created the “shit storm” nobody would have cared or even noticed, so if he’s getting negative comment online, then I’m afraid he only has himself to blame.

I had a bully in school. The kind that would throw rocks, knock all your stuff off your desk and then flip your entire desk over when you leaned to pick it up, slam your head into the locker, etc. etc. Do you know what the teachers and staff would tell me? "They're probably having a hard time at home, so don't let it bother you." While I appreciate my bully did have some mental health issues caused by abusive family situations, that wasn't my problem or responsibility to fix. My problem was how my bully treated ME, and they needed to be stopped. So while I appreciate Justin very likely has some mental health issues, that's not anyone else's fault or responsibility to fix. The problem is how he treats others, and he needs to stop.
