Mentoring Mojo | Peter Hurley 

Peter, I’m 79 and recently my wife and I moved into a CCRC (“Continuous care retirement community”). Former teacher, retired and taught folks how to use their cameras, got into flash photography then taught folks how to use their flashes. Haven’t touched my flashes for easily 4-5 years but volunteered to do head shots for our community’s administration folks. Dug out my copy of your book (which I hadn’t read all the way through), all my flash gear, and have been watching your videos again. Loving all the tips, especially since I now have “show up and don’t screw up” self-assignment. Since I was a classroom teacher of high schoolers, “performing” to a tough audience didn’t scare me. This morning I did a practice shoot with some volunteers and got some great shots. Not SHA’BANG yet, but close. I could feel a personal shtick evolving and thank your multiple suggestions in helping me. Hell, though I’m doing the admin folks for free, I’m feeling there’s a headshot biz waiting for me in my Winter years! Thanks for your enthusiasm and great tips!
