For anyone doing this, here's what you'll need. Torx e12, 13mm, 10mm, breaker bar( optional, mine had some super tight bolts, 17mm for serpentine, and every goddamn ratchet accessory you can find. I put a jack on mine and got the bottom two out that way, but could only get one of the bottom bolts actually back in. Just take your time, its easy, but time consuming.

@@proto4870 no need to take out the bottom two bolts…unscrew them and leave inside the alternator casing…remove the alternator with the two bolts inside…and when you put the alternator back in, just make sure to put the two bottom bolts back into the alternator first. I initially took out the bottoms cover for my car but I didn’t need to access anything from the bottom…everything was done from the top. And yes the two bottom bolts were tricky because of the tight space but still manageable from the top…

For everyone complaining about the bottom bolts on this alternator: On a 2011 model (same setup), all the bolts are E10 Torx (external torx). I was able to fo this job entirely from the top of the motor. Pull the air duct from the passenger side, remove the belt with a 17mm socket on the tensioner. I was able to get every bolt out from the top using a swivel head 3/8ths ratchet and an E10 socket. The bottom bolts wont pull out due to hitting the frame, pull the alternator with them still inside of it. This one has a 13mm nut that holds down the power lead to the alternator. The bottom bolts are a bit of pain, and you cant see them, but you should be able to feel them with ease. Break them free a few turns and you should be able to remove them by hand.

It’s actually E12 for the alternator bolts

If you have a bolt thats slightly rounded off use a 3/8" socket for anyone that may need

It’s not too hard…really easy…removing the 4 screws was the longest/hardest part…also you don’t need to remove the bottom cover of the car…we did but realized we didn’t have to :D
@redmor1516
@redmor1516 Год назад
I appreciate the video, but about how long did it take you? Also, did you have to go under the car to get the bottom bolts?
@darkpoet555
@darkpoet555 Год назад
We took the bottom covering out from under the car but realized that wasn’t necessary so that was more time consuming and wasteful…lol you don’t need to do that nor do you need to remove the bolt from under the car…all the four bolts was removed from the top…just find the right size and ratchets…i forgot the size tbh
@darkpoet555
@darkpoet555 Год назад
Oh it took me like 2 hours…those small bolts hood the alternator were a pain…especially the two in the back…the back bottom can come out …initially I thought I was in trouble but you just move it in the right direction it won’t get stuck…also putting those two back ones in you need to make sure they are inside as you are putting the alternator back…
@darkpoet555
@darkpoet555 Год назад
Even though the stupid auto parts dealer gave me the wrong alternator I made it work…I thought I was screwed but luckily the only thing that was wrong was the direction of the wiring lug on the alternator…I just broke the plastic n pointed the lug in the correct direction and it worked!! Car been driving fine since I put this video up…it’s an old car so I’m hoping to get a few more years from it

@@darkpoet555I can see the top bolts and think I have enough space for the bottom. If the bottom are just the socket I'll be fine. Appreciate that. My plan is to drive it to the Auto Zone take it out, if I have problems getting it back in I'll be close to the house. I can crank it up and drive it back to my garage and finish, lol. Thanks for the response.

@@redmor1516 yes you can see the top ones…the bottom two inside…actually it’s top and bottom but inside…you can see it but can feel and reach it with sockets…shouldn’t be a problem but make sure they get you the right ones…match it up with the old one before you take the new one

I can’t get the one in the bottom off that’s in the back how did you do that

3 of them are easy to take out how did you take out the bottom back 🤔
@darkpoet555
@darkpoet555 2 месяца назад
It was tricky, u don’t actually remove the bottom bolts, you just loosen them n if I recall correctly you just pull up with the loose bolts inside the chamber
@emmanuelocran52
@emmanuelocran52 Год назад
You didn’t show how you remove the down bolt, check your video very well, the editing is too much
@darkpoet555
@darkpoet555 Год назад
No editing just clips…some clips I didn’t add n some I didn’t take…I figured it was obvious, although there was a clip i which I took n added which was the wiring nuts/casings I had to unbolt/move…although the alternator only had 4 bolts…I don’t recall a “down bolt”.

Lol tbh I’m surprised I got people watching it, my son n I decided to do the vid bc when we were looking for a RU-vid on how to change an alternator for this particular model car there wasn’t much…I figure I throw it out there in case it might be helpful to anyone :D, thanks for the input hopefully it helps someone

I understood everything and it took me a good 30 min to get mine out, I didn't remove hose tho I just forced it through and those bottom screws your basically blind you can only feel what your doing so you have to know what your feeling around for I believe you can jack the car up and go from beneath to get those out this is like my 5th alternator change and so far pretty easy other than no space to work with had to use the smallest wratchet I have and it was still tight and pulling it out there's not even a dimes worth of space to work it out so you gotta be strong and patient

What size socket do you need to release the belt
@darkpoet555
@darkpoet555 Год назад
I don’t remember the size for the belt…the socket shouldn’t be hard to reach…best thing to do is hand fit the socket n feel to make sure it fits well before attempting to turn it…so you don’t stripe the nuts…

Can someone tell me how they got the back bottom one off
@chrisdadokkan4130
@chrisdadokkan4130 11 месяцев назад
I just did it I used a socket wrench and extension with a 10mm take the back bottom and top screw out first then the front bolts and put the back ones on first. Use a ratchet wrench for the top screws

@darkpoet555
@darkpoet555 Год назад
There’s only two…you need to feel around for it and use the right size ratchet sets…use the smaller one…it probably was the longest part of removing the unit…just gotta play around with it
@TheWizardboy5
@TheWizardboy5 Год назад
@@darkpoet555 I ended up breaking it loose with my normal ratcheting socket and used a tiny 10mm ratchet to get it the rest of the way
