what was that glass roof Mercedes wagon? It only had two doors up front. Was it a hearse? But the gear inside did not look like it. Why did it need a glass roof?
it was Mercedes 300d Messwagen of 1960 - the "rolling laboratory" vehicle, probably one-off, custom built for the purpose. It was equipped with a lot of measuring and recording devices and it was driving on a test track right behind the tested vehicle, being connected through a long wire. You can find pictures of this car following various MB models, including W114.
Hearses in Germany have either plaited curtains or frosted windows. The panes are then decorated with symbols like crosses and palm-twigs. MB builds them still, or they are custom-built on MB chassis. And there used to be ambulances on elongated passenger car chassis, that have long died out because the modern vehicles are those vans with a "box" put on them hat contain almost an entire small hospital in case an emergency operation has to be carried out at once.
