Such a smooth and restrained lap, so much mechanical sympathy and awareness of other drivers. Beautiful to watch! Sounded great on the approach to Lauda Links too!
The thing a lot of people don't get about these old Mercedes is they were designed to be fast and comfortable and they're surprisingly capable cars but they're also nice and soft and comfy at the same time, a good set of tyres, pads and discs and just go have fun and enjoy. They're also rock solid cars and extremely reliable on track.
The lack of any squeaks and rattles in this 41 yr old Benz really show display the build quality of old traditional Mercedes Benz 🙌 . Also that M116/7 V8 was a peach...of course the M119 DOHC in the R129 I have is legendary though.
What a beautiful and smooth lap. Perfect driving and those old luxury Coupés by Mercedes are absolutely impressive. Such refined, quiet cars. Amazing engineering.
Proper baller mobile. Big big fan of the older Mercs and tbh even the newer ones. Have to say that his driving is very good considering he drove only 12 laps. The 'def' button is probably for the defrost.
I bought my Wife a 72 350 SLC (3.5 D jet) as an anniversary gift and she loves it, Got to admit im also very fond of the C107 and in setting up to replace the Bosch D jetronic with Haltech engine and spark management because of modern fuels but the drivetrain and suspension is phenomenal on the 2 lane mountain roads. The 3.5 revs quite a bit better and refreshed she should be a lot of fun, I have W116 S class cars and they too with the SLS rears are quite capable at high speed touring but the C107 is made for it :-)
What a beautiful classic . 41 years old barely any creaking or rattles. That dont make them like that any more. A lap like that you really get to see the beautiful fall scenery at the ring.👍👍
Beautiful car! Really smooth driving. Quiet but when putting it down you could hear that v8 waking up from its slumber and reminding you Mercedes racing history is not forgotten in this car.
I can't wait to see the SLC from Mechatronik ❣️ They built one with modern AMG Engine manual shifting and carbon to make it lighter ❗😲 I think next year, they show it when it's complete. They want drive it on the Nürburgring and take time... Sorry for my English I'm German ❕😂 Love from Berlin, Ramsi 😘
I'm impressed by how this guy handled the fine line between being cautious and agresive, thumbnail shows the real nature of that car. Amazing job, a great video, would love to see 6er e24 on the channel :D
Love those Mercs, but the highlight of the lap was the close captioning. I had accidentally turned it on as I do use it on this channel sometimes but the amazing thing was that every time he accelerated the CC showed *MUSIC*. I agree that sweet sound was music but I'd never seen any other car generate that caption.
She's a nice old bird, the hard top doesn't get as much love as they should, listen how quite it is for a 40 odd year old car, but I have to ask, Did dad know he was lapping dad's pride & joy, Rj in Oz
@@jasper5097 oh no a Tesla Fanboi is hurt. I'm an enthusiast something beyond your comprehension level. A tesla has no heart, no soul, no BRAKES!! A drive is more than the sum of parts of the vehicle you are driving. It's how it makes you feel, obviously the point of this video! And your inability to understand that is reflected in your comment. How many video's of Tesla roadsters do you see driving the ring posted. A completely forgotten pos. So a Plaid with no brakes , nothing stimulating the senses other than quickness. It's something a fanboi such as yourself can't understand. I'll quote Jay Leno (even though you will not understand what the quote means). "It's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than it is to drive a fast car anywhere near it's limit." Try & figure out what that means. Enthusiasts understand what that means.
That was a delight for 2 reasons!! 1, his lines! 2 his dads wonderful car! I used to love the lines of those back in the day ;) I can well imagine the comfortable ride you had ;) LOL!! I do think I like your approach to your car too! but you have a lot of time to fine tune your thoughts ;)
I have a 500SEC and the experience is almost exactly the same, it even makes the same creaking leather sounds. Of course you cant fling them into corners but so enjoyable to relax and cruise.
La serie mas linda para mi gusto la w 107 y en este caso en particular la 500 slc , teniamos una gris plata con cuero negro en los años 80 en Argentina .
Love those old SL's, wanted to get a mint 500 before the prices went stupid but never managed it! Proper Merc build quality, not like the crap they turn out now.
Misha not knowing that cars have had electric power windows since the 1950s, and that the "Def" setting on the heater is the defroster/defog mode. (The setting/button shaped like a windshield with three arrows pointing upwards on a modern car.) 😁
I still think the M5 should be capable of having a cruise lap with 3 friends on the way to dinner. Some mild upgrades would be great but keep the interior and the comfort as much as possible. You already spend enough time in ridiculous stiff and fast ring tools so why build another one?
Mooie auto en mooie rijstijl. De SLC vindt ik te lang uitgerekt, de verhoudingen kloppen niet helemaal als je de zijkant ziet, maar daar zal hij niet minder fijn om rijden.
I always feel the Nürburgring is a dangerous place with all those macho idiots around you. The 500SLC held up perfectly. P.S. that radio you have in there really is a no go :P
