Thanks Scott for adding to the maintenance library of the ML320 - this is really what RU-vid is for. Your no nonsense Aussie approach is much appreciated. Kudos from Canada.

Thanks Francis. I agree RU-vid is for sharing knowledge to lift our collective intelligence. Sadly it's been overrun by inane "influencer's"opinions, conspiracy theories and snake oil.

Hey Scott! Landed across your video by searching to see if anyone had had to replace this sensor! Mine is giving me pressure too high code, but both simple OBD scanner and more specifically my Star SDS Xentry pointing to sensor itself. Car would drop and go up in rpm at idle rather than stay at steady 650-700 RPM. I was going to bite the bullet and order sensor here in States which costs $130 at cheapest for OEM Bosch. I noticed on your video looks like you have routed your breather tube into an oil catch can based on hoses (I just did the same on mine to reduce the oil blow-by in turbo which then fills up intercooler and recirculates it back into breather hose that feeds it into intakes. I had removed the throttle body and intake pipe at the front and cleaned the gunk in the process but glad to see someone else with same logic as far as oil catch can. Thanks for video since it helps to know that these sensors do go bad from time to time and that was in fact root cause.
@ScottElliott152
@ScottElliott152 3 года назад
Thanks Steve. The catch can has made a notable difference to the amount of oil normally present in the turbo intake. When I take the intake pipes off it's almost dry whereas in the past there'd be a puddle of oil in the mouth of the turbo. Regards, Scott

@@ScottElliott152 Good to hear about reduced oil, shows its doing its job! I only regret on my ML320 not removing the intercooler to drain and clean whatever oil had accumulated in there already! But a job for a future day for sure! And at some point I will tackle intake manifold removal to clean thoroughly inside and maybe remove swirl valves and or egr delete but that's a big job!. I have one last question for you in regards to fuel pressure sensor install in your video, did you have to depressurize the fuel line somehow? or just insure battery was disconnected and car allowed to rest in order for fuel pressure to drop. I wanted to make sure considering the high pressure line. Thanks again from one Merc DIYer to another!
@ScottElliott152
@ScottElliott152 3 года назад
@@stevetech7503 The fuel pressure bleeds off quickly once the engine is off. So there's no special process ... just unscrew the sensor after the engine has been off for a short while. I didn't disconnect the battery but have the key out so no one can turn it on. I reckon these engines run better with a properly functioning EGR and swirl flaps. The key is to remove that oil mist so the system doesn't create that dreadful tar. I tried disabling the swirl flaps by tricking the computer with a load resistor and it didn't pull as well at lower revs. If you do have it apart you can buy replacement stronger alloy swirl flap levers to replace the OEM plastic. That would be worth doing as the plastic items break. There's a video in my list of the oil catch can installation on the OM642. Regards, Scott

Unbelievable Scott. Looking for the location of it yesterday as that is the code I am getting. It also puts the Vito into limp mode. Will change her out tomorrow. Cheers

@@ScottElliott152 so all done Scott. But can you imagine what it was like to get to on a Vito? I couldn't get access to the bracket to remove and give me some room. So I opted for removing the fuel rail and getting it that way. Thanks again for your vid. Cheers mate. 😀

Hello there and thanks for sharing this video.I've bought an ML164 (11years old).I've just an Re-mapping device (maybe like yours),but the question is:Is good idea fit that device onto a new sensor(not yet fitted and bought) or is better to fit into a old one?Thanks for answer.
@ScottElliott152
@ScottElliott152 2 года назад
It will make no difference unless the sensor is faulty. For the re mapping tuning box to function properly the sensor needs to be providing the correct voltage signal.

Thanks for the video. Are you had any issues with this? Fault codes or trouble starting the engine? Why did you replace it?
@ScottElliott152
@ScottElliott152 4 года назад
Nico I started to have some issues with the engine dropping into limp mode. The fault code said the fuel pressure sensor signal was too low. The sensor is not expensive so I decided to replace it. So far the car is going well. Regards, Scott

This sensor when is bad put fuel by wires harness and damage other sensor in time like b60 back pressure sensor near turbo

this is the sort of fault where it's nice to check the live data from the ECM... just for sanity: before/after comparison. 🤗
@ScottElliott152
@ScottElliott152 4 года назад
Actually I did that. The fuel pressure was outside the target range at idle (reading lower). After replacing the sensor it was within range again. So far all is good and it certainly appears the pressure sensor was faulty. Fortunately they're not an expensive item providing you don't purchase at a Mercedes dealer.

Hello Roberto. I will type in English as my wife is not home. I have not adjusted the hand brake on the ML320CDI. The car is no longer in the family as it was sold last year. You can try www.benzworld.org as that site has good information. Here is a video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LX6LD-BuOFM.html. Ciao!

@ScottElliott152

You can crack an injector line open. I didn't need to do it. Just takes a bit longer to start. The Mercedes workshop manual didn't say you need to bleed.
