Mercedes have a brand new model out called the CLE Coupe! Starting from £46,605 (correct at time of recording) it replaces the C-Class Coupe and E-Class Coupe. But which one is it closest too?

Wireless charging for phones? Unless there’s a problem with it, you quite simply place your phone on the charger 🤓 That’s it (the phone has to have it too)

HERE ! HERE ! Very well put!! When I got my CLA in 2021 I poured over all his videos I could find. I thought back then he was a salesman at the Pool location 😂. I would have loved to have had him as my salesman. I would hang on his every word. His knowledge is very impressive and valuable for the Mercedes brand.

I test-drove the CLE this morning, it is fabulous although, the MBUX placement is really lazy styling, it looks like an afterthought plonked on the centre dash/console area. I'm disappointed with these ipad type tablets just added rather than inbuilt into the dash.

Ah nice! Oh really? That’s one of the latest designs of dashboards out now so I’d imagine quite a few models will follow. Not sure what design of dashboard Mercedes are working on next…or in fact which model will have a different design next, always exciting to see! 🙏🤓 So do you prefer the one with the screen going all the way across? Like landscape orientated?

Glad a few commentators are mentioning how much of a massive step back the interior is compared to the E class. It’s not ‘stunning’, it’s just a giant screen like every other new luxury car with acres of glossy plastic with all of the useful physical buttons removed. Mad how so many car reviewers are so easily impressed by this.

Hey @bobsworth7082, it all depends on what the individual person is after. I guess that’s one reason why Mercedes have so many models and to simplify their range they are consolidating a few models to make it easier to choose. Last year they had around about 34+ different shapes of car! All different price points and some feature different designs like the widescreen displays dating back to around 2016. Just what people prefer to be honest, I wouldn’t turn down either the vertical screen like this one or a car with the landscape styled screen like a GLE. Who knows what the next design will be 👀

I had the 2016 E300 Coupe. Loved it to death, but then my family got expanded and I went for the CLS53AMG. A car that has everything, great engine, 4 doors. Coupe style. All in one package.

Looks like a reimagined CLK, which was basically a merging of an E and C into a coupe back when it was first released in the late 90s ..

Just bought the CLE premier. A bit disappointed that Mercedes didn’t keep the E class coupe feature of the rear passenger window opening.

As an owner of an E-class Coupe, I held out buying this until the CLE was announced. The CLE looks great at the front and side, but thats it for me. Not a fan of the rear and the interior looks like a step back from the E-class. Each to their own of course, but I'd rather see the interior dash all one screen instead of the two screen setup.

Ah nice! I quite like it actually, it combines the look and feel of CLA / CLS and the two coupes it’s replaced. You not a fan of the central screen? Dashboard design is probably a video in itself (designs over the years) believe it or not the E-Class double widescreen design is around 7 years old now 😅🤯 Time quite literally flies, and only started my channel in 2020 so didn’t even get to cover it when it launched back in 2016 on the E-Class Saloon! 😅

@@npoleary I am not. I reckon for the facelift which will come out in 4 years or so the entire dash will be a screen as seen in some of the EV models...that would look quite smart I think. Great tech on these cars however and they are lovely places to sit! Maybe (as an idea for content) do a comparison review of the CLE with a C Coupe and E Coupe next to each other...

From what I've read, the Zoom app *will* be for video conferencing (but not while the car is moving). Would be interested in seeing it (although I'm not sure I'd use it). Here in the US, you can either set the speed warning to only flash the speed limit sign and not make a sound, or turn it off entirely. You can also set it not to go off until over 5 MPH. I dislike having the sound because the car doesn't always get the speed right (sometimes it says it's 25 on the freeway if I drive close to the exit!) but I leave the "flash" on.

I imagine the Zoom app will be similar to the Tesla. Will do video conferencing when the car is in Park but when the car is mobile it will likely be Audio only.

Test drove one and in comparison to my E-class coupe I felt it looked tiny. Measurements aren’t everything as body shape has a massive impact. The cockpit also felt much smaller

this would make sense. the e class old design was very airy and the long screen on the dash helped making it feel larger. the cle and its tilted screen sure makes it feel more cramped but also more sporty which fits a coupe better imo.

Hi Nick, Just bought one and I absolutely agree it is beautiful to drive. I got myself a CLE 300 petrol and I’m still running it in, as you would with any new car. Mercedes definitely got this one bang on C and E Class combination works for me. Oh I had a C300 coupe. Perfect replacement for me. Great work by the way with your channel 💚

Thank you! Burmester was on that car that I checked out so it’s probably on Premium or Premium plus but check on Mercedes eBrochures / configurators or chat with your local Mercedes for exact specifics as specs can vary round the world (depends where you’re based 👍🏼)

For me , it's terrible how mercedes has lost their mind. Mercedes has Elegance as keyword. This coupe has nothing about elegance : the grille is very unadapted with the rest of the front, like all mercedes model since they want make "sport" style. The shape of light look like Toyota or Hyundai. And the bad cherry on the bad cake : the permanent part of the rear glasses... it's like a bad control of design. And the interior : terrible. That looks like a chinese car. You will never see that in a Bentley or Rolls (i hope ...)

The dashboard screen looks very old-fashioned for 2024. It should be form fitted into the dash like other modern cars.

Is it just me, or did your editing game improve quite a bit Nick? Great walkaround and video, you're doing so well! I've driven the CLE 300 4MATIC (I work with MB too, marketing) and it just didnt look, feel or drive like the E-Class Coupé... Its a C-Class Coupé, no matter how they advertise it and how big it is.

Have to be honest, the new range has a lot more cheap plastic in the cabin than before which I’m already not that found of. Tried the new C200, engine is also a big concern. Will stick to my E class for now. Will lookout for pricing when it arrives in Australia; it’s very exciting times we live in, going to add a 3rd EV to my garage next month. Slowly replacing all of our ICEs.

Thanks Nick for the video. For the routines functionality, is it only for CLE or we'll see this functionality coming to CLA as well ? I was thinking that it might be useful to start the Mercedes dashcam recording once the ignition is on, because there's no way to make it automatic :)

No worries! As I mentioned in the video it’s only for this new generation multimedia system so it’ll probably be only new cars released going forward (based on previous car launches) Sadly no that’s due to law and regulation, some countries allow it and some don’t (this is for on/board recording, 3rd party off road recording is fine for auto start) Hopefully it changes in the future!

Love your overview. However was watching the CLE since last year. One reason I purchased my 23 C300 Cabriolet was due to the size. CLE is more E Class sized, and price. When our dealership gets some in, I am going to look at it up close. I also like the instrumentation on the pods on my car. Not a huge fan of the flat screen and Ipad type screen on the console. However that might be due to my age.. hahaha. I would love the see the Hyper and Super screen in more of the new cars. If they change the S Class with those, we would probably buy one.

Ah thank you! Yes it is definitely larger than the C-Class but the screen is lovely! Very easy to see the Sat Nav / Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Oh yeah a HyperScreen or SuperScreen would be awesome!

I started with a 430 CLK in 1999…. Then a 350 E coupe. Both bulletproof and I still own both among others. (CL 500. SL 550) This new one looks n feels like a C class. Not for me

Thank you! I doubt it, they already have several hatchbacks A-Class, B-Class, GLA and GLB. C-Class has always been reserved for C-Class Saloon & C-Class Estate (coupes and cabriolets now transferred to CLE)

14:05 Couldn't really find any information myself regarding the Start Generator Generation 2, but is there any difference between the previous model? Also I think the current C class is using ISG 1 instead of 2 but is there truly any difference in terms of driving feel? Especially when start stopping engine.

Just starts smoother It’s a subtle difference I should add Think of like when start / stop first came out, it really took a long time to start and when pulling from a roundabout but newer cars start smoother and faster. You barely notice it in this one!

Thanks for the review Nick. I currently own a 2021 C200 cabriolet which I absolutely love - so comfortable and great fun with the top down (I also have a 2023 A180 like you). I love the look of the CLE, especially inside compared to mine, and would love to own one. Unfortunately I just couldn’t justify the expense. I bought mine new for £35,000 with a £12,500 discount but I reckon a similar spec CLE cabriolet will be about £55k with no discount so too much to change and I still love mine so will hold onto it until I no longer want a convertible. Although I really like the look of all the screens etc I don’t actually use any of the tech in mine apart from the sat nav - no phone and no music so it’s all pretty much wasted on me. I have the drivers display set to trip mpg info and never change it. Voice control - no way am I ever talking to a car. Am I giving away my age? (long retired!) Keep up the good work.

Ah thanks for sharing! Yeah I currently I couldn’t step up to CLE (I’ve just bought mine anyway) but it looks so good! Oh you gotta try out some of the tech, that’s what it’s there for 🤓 Example: say you’re driving in the dead of night, and you need to concentrate on the road just ask Mercedes to put your heated seat on or adjust the temperature. Or even turn the ambient lighting off (if you have it).

What the A 200? I have the A 180 and although I would have preferred the A 200 but due to costs I had to go for the A 180. Both engines are powerful enough for most, don’t forget that as tech develops, so does engine tech too. The A 200 will produce the same horsepower as a 2.0 hot hatch years ago. It goes up to 163hp! From a 1.3L and the newer ones even have Mild Hybrid too which make it even punchier!

@@carlelsbyThe C200 has 163 BHP plus another 14 BHP from the mild hybrid motor for short bursts. The stated 0-60 time is 8.5s and it has enough power for me and I never experience any trouble getting past something if I have to although I am not a speedy driver nowadays and prefer to take it easy - gently cruising around with the top down. I drive in eco mode all the time as I am more interested in mpg then mph so get around 40 mpg on average although that can go up to 50mpg + on a long motorway run. Best to test drive a 200 and a 300 to see which suits you best.

Ah no worries! Sadly no electric version of the CLE Mercedes Electric cars are their own versions with their own design. So the closest would be as you said an EQE. However I’ve heard rumours there are a couple more models coming out later this year!

Thank you! If it were me, I would have opted for the colours shown here with a bit of black on the outside 🤓 Not sure on engine, probably the most economical so maybe a diesel 🤓👍🏼

I have E Class Coupe (post facelift) and in my opinion its interior is superior to this newer one. But I think so of all of the newer interiors with the tablet in the middle. Not my thing.

I am a very lucky owner of a new CLE 300 and love it. I used to have a C-class coupe before but this vehicle is a level above. The speed limit warning is an annoyance because the sat nav, which I assume informs the road speed, is not always correct. Not far from my home is a section of road that is national speed limit yet the speed warning insists it is only 40, but only in one direction. In the opposite direction the reported speed limit is 60.

Ah very nice! Yes I’ve seen that speed limit warning introduced to a few new cars. Maybe a video for another day! 🤓 Very true! It does heavily rely on Sat nav info!

I've currently got a CLA Shooting brake which I love for the lack of width so not sure I can go back to 2 doors, on a wider car but I'm really trying to convince myself! That MUCH smaller boot opening would take some getting used to too..... I'm not happy about the speed beep though, I've had my speed limit signs flashing at me a few times today as it 'saw' lower limits that didn't apply, such as on roundabouts - if that was beeping for as long as it was flashing it would be extremely annoying!

Each car’s design is different I guess and Mercedes have to bring out something different over time. The design of the vents on my car is from 2018😆 I do like mine, but equally the CLE ones are good too!

It is assumed that around 25,000 lives could be saved and at least 140,000 serious injuries could be avoided in the next 15 years.

I drove the e-class coupe (2021) and got to say it such an amazing car . I was excited about the CLE when I heard about it and wanted to upgrade, but the completely new design isn't doing it for me :(

It depends on which model and year you have but most models of Mercedes have a scroller wheel very close to the driver’s door next to the light switch (this only works at night though). Failing that you can also manually adjust light mode / dark mode on some models of Mercedes. Usually found in SETTINGS, SYSTEM, DISPLAYS (or something similar)

I have a 2019 C-Class Coupe and let’s be honest here this is just an updated version of that car, albeit just larger. The only saving grace is the 450 spec option for those that don’t want to spend crazy money for the AMG53 version. I feel sorry for existing E-Class Coupe owners as this is not an upgrade for them at all. Not much ‘E’ in the CLE. Think Mercedes have shot themselves in the foot with no S-Class Coupe or E-class Coupe means that prospective buyers are being pushed to look at other manufactures. BMW 8 series coupe springs to mind. For me as current C-class coupe owner I would seriously look at one of the last examples of the E-Class coupes as my next car as I can’t really see the value of this CLE at the moment which is just a C-Class replacement at E-class money.

Me too! Can’t wait! COMAND was pretty good for the time but tech has accelerated so fast right around the time when mobile phones started to get really good so some stuff will show its age quicker than others.

There is now! Mercedes actually announced it after I made the video! 😅 Just shows you how quick the car industry moves! It’s called a Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé. Not sure yet what countries it will be available in, of course definitely Germany but not sure which others yet. Chat with Mercedes and they can keep you up to date! It looks incredible though! Apparently 449hp! 🚗💨

CLK was an older model so not sure they would ever use that. CLE is C-Class but with hints of E-Class in a coupe shape 🤓

Im finally just replacing my e class 2021 coupe with the cle, and after driving it i can confirm that it has more in common with the eclass than the cclass except for the interior and i kinda like it, the mbux in 2021 e class sucked.

Drove a CLE300, definitely prettier than the 4-Series, but I'd say a step back from the E-Coupé and strangely no Sport+ mode (just Sport) like on the older models

Ah I’ve noticed that when reviewing newer Mercedes models, mine’s the same too. They’ve just simplified it, Sport+ is basically just Sport, it’ll do the same thing. So there’s 3 modes instead of 4.

Love your reviews, thank you. Great video. But, these cars are no longer practical in my personal experience. Since we got spoilt with SUV’s of all kinds, the higher seating position makes it so much nicer to drive and see the road ahead. Also, they could have opted for an E class-like interior instead of the C class interior.
