A cross between saloon and a coupe, the Mercedes CLS has pioneered a new niche within the executive sector as a highly distinctive proposition with comfortable room for four but styling that suggests otherwise. Though extremely refined and silky smooth on the road, it also has a subtly sportier flavour than the E-Class on which it’s based.
Background
Let’s see if this is you. You’ve done pretty well in life and you’ve earned the right to a prestigious executive car. You’d rather like a Mercedes-Benz but not a dull-looking one like the guy over the road drives. If that three-pointed star could be mounted on the bonnet of something that cuts more of a dash - something a little more cutting edge - you’d be interested. And you’d be Mercedes CLS target market.
Here’s the kind of car most of us thought Mercedes would never make. An attention-grabbing, extrovert design that created its own market niche and that other, supposedly more avant garde, brands are still trying to properly emulate. It’s both a coupe and a four-door saloon at the same time, breathtakingly striking with sweeping lines, razor-edged detailing and a superb finish. At first glance, it might be Italian, it’s possibly American but it’s anything but German. This car effectively launched the ‘four-door coupe’ concept here at its launch in 2005 and now features a small but significant raft of revisions to keep things fresh.

I've had my 07 cls for a few years now, bought it cheap and spent the first 8-12 months waiting for the inevitable bank account draining failure which never came, love the car, love driving it, it has one or two issues but nothing anywhere near serious, passed it's MOT test every year since I bought it with only one advisory in that time (front offside brake line corroded) a beautiful car in my opinion, so glad I bought it and still look at it when I'm not in it.

I've had my 2010 CLS550 for 11 years now and still love it. I think it's a beautiful car, it has a great engine and it handles wonderfully. The maintenance isn't too bad, but I have had to replace two air struts and I've cracked two rims (damned low profile tires). Otherwise, I've just kept up with the maintenance schedule.

I have been driving a 2008 320cdi CLS for 13 years. I loved my Dad's Rover SD1 too.

Not just the VW CC. The Jaguar XF was most certainly a saloon coupé hybrid, especially with its Dynamic Mode as well as the Audi A5/A7. The CLS is a beautiful car with very few peers.

I've been waiting and asking for a review of this wonderful car for some time, a d i can't help but feel a bit underwhelmed by the short video. Don't get me wrong, i appreciate the fact that you guys have made it, and it's absolutely a joy to watch another one of your videos, regardless.

Loved the style back then, but then they started breaking apart. So many things to fail (which they do). I went for an E Class instead: E350, fully loaded, petrol, supersized fuel tank as an option. Happiest man on earth. W212

I bought more or less this exact one for £3200 same colour in a CLS 320 CDI V6 2008 It has 120k on clock and everything works fine with electrics needs a new 18 inch Run flat as Run flat indicator is on is like £180+ a tyre on these Has wide Tyres Handles very well is more like a Front Wheel drive as the ESP is excellent on these 😊 A nice looking car just usual thing of maybe expensive parts It feels a long car also, but easy to drive, really nice interior and dash although is only two seats at back as has a whole through console Be careful of the windows all round as they are frameless, and in older ones if people lean on the glass or rest arm while it’s open, is like 250 to get electric windows fixed as a very solid build car I would say is good, I think Mercedes are a good car for passengers

All large cars are like that though it has a better turning circle v Volvo T5s of that time But yeh it is long think it’s more that it has larger bonnet, it has the parking sensors you can use all round, this model has the dots on dashboard, but in age they can malfunction It does feel annoying in a busy car park though, you are very correct but is Merc you can just take time and cruise, but yes definitely more a motorway car I have drove this same one in video, Logbook in UK this colour is actually listed as Silver but when you see them they have a more a Gold look, and If polish up is a hint of rose gold and silver Mine interior was Cream though and carpet so lot of hoovering if you want them always clean But yeh I like this car on longer roads but around tight streets and parking like busy supermarket, you have to be well careful V6 sounds nice in these though I found it was heavy on fuel round town As you say is parking An enjoyable drive just be careful of Tyres, one I had is 18 inch runflats and they like £199 a tyre , this car has way wide tyres All round 8.5 out 10 for me

Rover produced a four door Coupé, the SD1, 29 years before the CLS 🤔

That was a hatchback. The P5 was the 4 door coupe.

@@user-jj1qo5vo8w a car can be both a Coupé and a have a hatchback, like the Capri, being a Coupé is determined by the roofline at the rear of the car.

@fookinLmate It costs a lot with the consumption but drives very smoothly and doesn’t develop problems at all . I love it but I don't have that much to spend on petrol. Wanna sell it because of that.
