Mercedes EQB300 quick review: A pricey "transition" EV (I'll keep the Kia EV6, thank you)

Why would you get this? Recently, I had a chance to drive the EQB300 so I figured I'd share my experience and thoughts, as a 2.5 year Kia EV6 owner.
Is this an apples to apples comparison? No, esp after I saw the specs of this car. It would be better compared to the EV6 RWD when it comes to power. But bottom line is: Why does it cost so much? I'll point out what I liked about it, but what falls short and what may be appealing to some buyers.

The refreshed version of 2024 was launched recently here in India along with EQA. Mostly cosmetic changes, but the range I feel has gone up. I am fine with 7.6 sec 0-60, but the problem is its lack of features. No 360 camera, no remote start, no seat ventilation, no head-up display, no ADAS, no window blinds and it costs $90K on road here (yeah cars are expensive in India)!

Wow!! I can honestly say without those features and for that price, I would never ever buy it. I would never even consider it.

@@Emadifications I stand corrected, it does have HUD, 360 camera and ADAS features. No seat ventilation or massage and no clarity on remote car features. The cost is still the same - $90K. EV6 here costs $85K too. They both are in same price bracket, just that EQB has third row for once in a while "use case".

I like the traditional boxy suv look of the EQB but because of the mediocre specs I think its for loyal Mercedes fans who don’t know or care that it’s not a very good EV. I thought maybe the 350 could be a decent buy used at a dramatically lower price, but I don’t see them for sale new or used. Honestly, I’m not sure what Mercedes is up to with this car as they’ve made some impressive EVs. This seems pretty half hearted to me. I watched a Car Scene Korea video on the 2025 EV 6 and it looks like they are going away from the gloss black on the center console. If the Ioniq 5 didn’t exist I’d buy an EV6. I’m waiting for the 2025. If Kia brought the EV 5 here I’d probably buy that because I like me a boxy SUV. Unfortunately the EV 9 is too big for my needs, but I think it’s awesome. You might find it amusing to watch the savagegeese channel review this car. If my memory serves me right, it actually made him angry.

They’re about a 14k difference in price and you get what you when you get an entry level Mercedes and a EQB is about just as entry level as you can get when you buy a Mercedes. It’s a very watered down s class that in comparison to its competitors isn’t produced to be a lot better but is produce to be more comfortable and opulent looking in the inside while being better moderately software and feature wise

You summarized it well. That 14k difference is huge for all the things you lose. But I guess it's brand, space, and image that some people want.

@@Emadifications that’s for sure but unfortunately the German car braces will always have a monopoly over entry level and middle entry cars since no other brand produces a competitive car that comes with a emblem perceived as prestigious or close to or as the three worldwide wise

That’s a very basic trim you have there. Also the US seem to still get the pre facelift version, as in Europe the car has been upgraded. I ordered a facelift AMG-line and that’s much more luxurious. It also has the 20” rims which look a lot better and come with adaptive suspension. It isn’t fast indeed, but that also is very different in Europe compared to the US. Here in Europe the speed limit is around 60 mph max and the infrastructure outside of highways doesn’t invite fast acceleration. It’s all quite small and narrow here. Also compared to ICE cars it is still quick. Compare the EQB 250+ (2 wheel drive) to the EV6 RWD and the EQB is even quicker than the EV6. Comfort is more important. I’m 52 and it’s my first EV, so I like the conventional setup really. If I want more speed and futuristic looks I’ll borrow the Smart #3 my son drives. If you compare cars, you really should take the trim into account, it can make a car completely different in look and feel.

Yeah the EQB300 is meant for soccer moms, older retired couples who want to go electric but want the reassurance of comfort and non-exotic aesthetics

@exoticolors9953 yeah that's a good balance, esp if you got a good lease. That MSRP is just absurd though.
