It locks all the wheels together which makes them rotate at the same speed, thus promoting traction esp at lower speeds or when stuck in mud or on slippery surfaces. On 4WD vehicles each wheel must move at different speeds when turning corners or the thing would simply flip over, with the diff lock on.
Put simply, it reminded me a lot of the Sprinter van. Very keen to move about under influence of crosswinds, vague steering (although it makes sense offroad because it doesnt want to rip your hands off when going over roots etc.), lot of wind noise, terrible ride comfort with a dollop of body roll on top of it. However, since then i took it offroad and I totally agree with mr Harris - it's unstoppable and capable of more than my testicles could handle. Definitely a car to go into my dream garage
Yepp - simply THE best off-roader of all time - Mercedes really knew, what he was doing - looking at other companies experience and making something that beats ALL (well, maybe Hummer H1 tops it, but it's still worth an argument).... great work Harris - as always)
"Think of it as a kind of... bentley on stilts that'll do anything, it's handmade, and feels like it would survive a nuclear war. I think in that respect, it kind of shames a range rover." Brilliant.. this is the best review ever.
@c0nv1ct1337 I couldn't agree more with what you just said. The idea of the car and looking at it are dreamy... but what a pain in the ass they are! SOOOO MANY PROBLEMS!!!
Loved his comment about it going as far as 10 defenders. Motortrend took 5 of these to the australian outback including two military spec cars and all of them but one car blew there shocks
@PcGamerPaul i too am worried about the amptitude test...(for the math part too), i have quite bad vision too , i have to where glasses all the time and their pretty strong. good luck to you too!
I would like to see this in an offroad test against a Discovery or Rangerover honestly. I dont´ know what car would win - but i would like to see that because... What did he say 81 Grand!! - that is a lot. For that price it will have to do quite well in the mud. And yes the trim looks luxurious but it also looks old a bit like Defender style. IMO this car needs a design update. C.H. does not convince me what the charm really is about with the G. I dont´ dislike it - but i dont´get exited either
Nice to see EVO put effort into its youtube videos. Yea i know they're free. But the raw footage being posted before with no voice-overs or editing was not a good way to endear yourself to a demanding crowd
@PcGamerPaul ye i have my application pretty much filled out, just that i need to wait until i start school in september to use my teachers as references. cuz i havent had any actual employment yet. but my parents arent too crazy about the idea, but my mom would sign cuz she knows it what i rlly wana do.
You guys should consider the Moab Wrangler Edition 2013 only. Most of the creature comforts and you can go places where this nice SUV wouldn't... Actually go ahead and get two for that price.
Great vid, but agreed that the music gets a bit...well...weird and repetitive. Loved everything else though, camera-work top notch, especially with the G-Wagon in creamy disfocus. Maybe use a better tunes and next time? If all you have are repetitive, use lots of them? My only quibble...
I got two of these (and no, I'm not bragging, I'm an idiot for it) and they are the biggest pieces of shit ever! My windows never work, the door handles break at all times, whenever it rains water leaks into the car, the radio doesn't work sometimes, etc... I can't get rid of them cuz I gave one to my gf and she loveeees it and won't let me get rid of it... and I got the other one sitting here for my little bro for whenever he visits and he won't let me get rid of it either.... I HATE IT!!!!!!
I figure that the obvious difference between a Jeep and a G is the design, therefore the emotions that generate each one are different i drive a military G and i was in between this and a Jeep, i just felt better driving a G, and i would choose it again now.
Why dont Toyota do a luxury 70 series. Put 10k of interior in, slap on a Lexus badge and some ridiculous looking chrome and charge 30k extra for it. Probably only work in the US and mid east but it would take near zero development dollars so why not give it a shot. I know they say it is held back by safety standards but if the G wagen can do it why cant the 70 series?
This is a bit weird. I normally hate big expensive luxury off road cars, Caynne and the like. But this one... I don't know. I don't really get the car, and the price is crazy. And why would you want to ruin an expensive interior with your muddy boots when you could get a plastic interior which you could just hose down? But somehow I want that car. I don't know what I like about it. Maybe the looks? I don't know, but if I really had a lot of money, that car would probably be in my garage.
It might be expensive, but it's an investment. If you buy this car, it will last a lifetime. Or you could buy a $ 40- 50 0000 chevy that will break down after about 5 years.
I had the chance to drive a G 350 CDI for the first time in my life a couple of days ago. I have to say that on tarmac it really drives like sh*t. But I still want one!
