Wow. Im seeing lot of negative and hating towards MB here. I wonder why so much hating, negativity towards MB? I love my Mercedes Benz SUV. People have a tendency to say a lot of negative things about stuff when they can't afford to buy them. Bring on the hatters. Hatters gonna hate.
I love mine, too. I got the E350 after driving them both. I felt I'd enjoy driving a car more than another SUV. I have no complains, but I think I would've loved having the GLE as well.
With all that 43 AMG models they will flood the market with "AMG models" and ruin the appeal and exclusivity of that sub-brand. I think that is quite stupid marketing!
"but almost entirely, i drove it in sport mode". Well yeah, if you drove it in sport mode all the time, the car doesn't go into the top overdrive gears so the RPM is always higher, thus worse fuel economy.
Zack, I discovered your channel a month ago , and being a non car lover who is immigrating to Canada end of this year from Pakistan (where we only get Honda Civics, Toyota Corollas or Hatchback Suzukis manufactured locally with import protection duties) I am hooked. Your reviews on the Honda Civic, HRV and Mazda CX-3 were terrific and made me want to buy these cars after I'm done with my MBA at Schulich. You have won over a fan from Pakistan. Stay blessed. Cheers. Faizan
I have GLE 400 4 MATIC and it ways better than Q7 and F pace 3.0.. they have also night vision and by looking on the screen you can drive through that like MI6 MOVIES. They have a lot of gadgets.. its too good!!
Great review, pretty wife(Remind me of Taylor Dayne, which I'm sure she has heard before). I truly like/prefer the 2020 GLC300. For the obvious/better fuel economy.
I drive GLE250d (AMG Trim) in Malaysia. It gives me an average of 18 km/liter on highway and city combined. Although it is only 4 cylinder, 2.1 liter turbo diesel and noisy engine, it is kinda enough as i don't do towing or carry heavy loads with the GLE. The best is, it costs CAD 0.65 per liter of diesel in Malaysia.
XLNT review but please quote mileage stats in MPG as well as metric. I have a 2018 GLE350 that I want to trade for a 400 for the power and 9spd. Do you think that's sensible or a waste?
Boy are you lost in the diesel bias :):) in every review where there is a diesel engine option. I know it is greener but especially with a vehicle like this the people buying are unlikely to worry about the fuel economy. Great reviews would like to hear more about some of the safety equipment like pedestrian detection etc. Lol everyone's a critic
is it possible to put a goat and its uncle in the back while having great comfort and speed ? if not im going with an oldsmobile with a bugatti engine .
I was just look at MB canadian site and there is no 350d. Poof! There all gone. They speak about it on the site but try and build one there is no choice. Any ideas as to what is going on?
No more diesels in standard car market for MB, you will only find them in the commercial segment (thus is why the sprinter and metris are tagged as commercial vehicles) , I think this is due to the harsh emissions requirements now.
Just get a Grand Cherokee at that point. The base model makes the GLE look a bit full of itself (at least when parked next to one another). That cross-class smugness won't last long, though. FCA got lucky with the Grand Cherokee. I doubt their next iteration will appeal in the same way.
Does it look any worse than any of the true un competition? The coupé looks weird to me, but I'm here because i enjoy the Grand Cherokee and GLE's proper SUV build. Nothing flashy, just professional. No one will laugh at you for picking them up in either. Aside from soccer mom jokes.
I sure wish Mercedes would return to the 2012-2016 era where cars had sensible button, efficient V6 engines, and an overall feel of quality that is ABSOLUTELY ABANDONED on their 2020-current models!!! My god, I Turo’d a GLB for the first time this week and the nasty CVt transmission spent the first 3 seconds of each pull away just spooling before any power at all would move it forward (nasty for bumper to bumper traffic or any scenario where you need to pull out in front quickly) and the WORST OF ALL I had to refill the gas and found the tank to actually be on the LEFT SIDE… literally NOTHING that Mercedes could do to tell me without shame that I’m driving an old Dodge Neon frame/component than to put that gas lid on the opposite side of every other Merced before it!! I have taken SO MUCH PRIDE knowing that gorgeous and capable ML and GLEs are coming out of real American manufacturing plants (in Alabama, not Canada or Mexico) and then Mercedes decided to cut them cost REAL HARD with this piece of shit ford focus GLB. Dear God if you are older than 22 and you’d like a capable Mercedes PLEASE buy a used one from 2012-2016 and not these latest pieces of shiiiiiiit.
It's not really comparable when you consider the chassis/platform differences. Mercedes didn't opt follow the trend of soft SUV's. I like the Q7, but it has joined the many SUV's built on a modified sedan platform. Of course the car based SUV's will be more enjoyable, and perform better on the asphalt, they're almost tall station wagons at this point. I don't mean to sound like I'm knocking the Q7 or the XC90. You can make the beefy GLE handle a bit better, you can make the Q7 handle some mild off road situations with air suspension and electronics, but neither will escape their true beginnings.
