Great video Keith . Appreciate your time in making such an informative clip. We out in South Africa are starved for good wiring diagrams. Can you refer me to some sites that have wiring diagrams for European cars like the one that you used in this video.
Mervyn Naidu I am doing a little preliminary research and it seems that auto data offers the best wiring diagrams for your area. but I will continue to search
emanualonline dot com if you want "original" manuals and/or semi legal from the car maker or if you are diy just one car person: haynes.c o m/en-gb/car-manuals
Another nice and quick video, I feel like I am finally internalizing the proper and optimal methods for diagnosing. Really appreciate the effort you put to get this videos online, really helps and encourage a lot of young techs like me to learn and become better
Great video!! You have such a wealth of insight and knowledge, so glad Erick and Ivan talked you into doing videos. Your videos will definitely help a lot of people learning diagnostics.
I really do appreciate the videos. I've always been intimidated on working on electrical issues, but now notice there is a procedure everyone follows to trace down faulty wires. It really helps a lot. Thanks for the vids.
Juan Hinojosa my motto is "they are just machines" . They don't have feelings and they don't try to intimidate. In the end all it comes down to is basics .
Car newbie here trying to get my older Mercedes going again. I really appreciate how you just walked me through this process step by step with the diagram and testing the lines. I don't have any type of computer and I'm trying to fix this on my own, but I can't believe how easy you made something so complicated seem. Thanks
Thanks for another great video Keith You definitely have a gift for explaining, you would be a great teacher. I did like the long pause before the fan operated itself ;-) Please keep then coming
i cant believe there were no voltage drop issues before this wire completely rotted away. you would think there had to have been. great video keith. love your procedures and how u track down problems man. u make it look easy and i certainly know it isnt.
Dylan Kinch I keep insisting that there had to be some type of an issue but the owner swears there was nothing . Either way fixed and I move along to the next one
Hey Keith, with all the "NEW" parts on the front of that engine it screams ACCIDENT to me. would not surprise me one bit if that wire was pinched in the process and never fixed or it was overlooked. Just saying
Even with a voltage drop which I believe would just mean a slower fan speed the ECM would just compensate by running it at a higher percentage? So unless you were sitting on a highway in traffic in high heat you may not have noticed anything.
Kevin Gallich I like the thought process , however even a higher percentage can not overcome the laws of electricity . Only x amount of current can get through y resistance with z amount of voltage supplied 😉
Not gonna lie. One of the best mechanics out there. A lot of people will not bother what you did and probably Will tell the owner to replace the fan 100 times. Much respect, thanks!
Great vid Keith. Bloody Benzes and Beamers look so intimidating, like working on an alien spaceship. Loved the PC with the pen marker, perfect for tutorials!!!
thanks for taking us along I appreciate the videos, I'm not a mechanic but I like to have a basis of knowledge when I talk to my mechanic... or at least know enough to be dangerous.
Thank you for making this video. Its not as complicated as I presume since I don't work on a lot of euro vehicles. keep up the good videos and explanations.
Wow, that's some quality green crustiness. So very nice of it to show itself off so clearly and out in the open! Nice work sir. Thanks for taking the time to share this!
New level u couldn't have explained any direct than what you explained! Great tutorial. I on the other hand am a do first then explain. Not gifted in that area i suppose. However once i put hands on any of the jobs take from customers. They are all ways satified. Oh one other thing ..... A quick fix sometimes is as good or if not better than the right way. Find myself in that situation often. however i do warn the client about the temp fix and so on.. Keep up the good work Mech. Pro. Also when u located the problem there was no one to cheer u on. self satifaction! But i shared the joy with u! i know the feeling its as if God came down and touched u on the shoulder. And the moment that fan kicked over! Exciting! My GF doesn't see as exiciting. Up until i told her to take her benz the work shop! LOl!!! Keep at it my friend the Mech Pro Gods are their with you!
Initially when I saw Mercedes cooling fan, I guessed fan control module, I've seen couple of them went south, and when I opened one of them, I saw exploded transistors, probably fan motor gets shorted inside and blows up transistors inside. Good diag video!
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 thank you very much for your support it really helped me out, I had a fan problem and because of you technical video show I found the same problem on my Mercedes. Thank you very much ( From Mozambique Ismael)
I forgot about all the corrosion seen on or in vehicles from the Northeast and upper Midwest states. I've lived in Southern California away from the coast, since 1976, but I do remember what the salt did to Massachusetts vehicles! Good diagnostic work!
I'm learning to hate Euro wiring diagrams. Why can't they just label stuff on the diagram, instead of the number/letter game? The last Volvo diagram I attempted to decipher had me ready to pull my hair out! Great vid Keith, and THANKS for posting it!
Great video thanks for Taking the time to do it, I have much the same problem with my S class w220, I think the control unit might be broken on mine .all the best from Scotland
Very informative. My CLK320 is doing the same thing so researching diagnostic procedures and appropriate fix. At least I know what the module looks like now and the prefuse! Back to the drawing board!
Fantastic explanation with the wiring diagram and circuit. I think it is wonderful to help us who's watching thank you for the videos and your time I try to compensate for your help trough paetron and hope a lot of people also do the same. For me, it is fantastic to learn the German cars been driving those all the time
I can understand people calling on you for data com issues, but it's Unbelievable that a repair shop can't diagnose an open circuit on a power feed! ...Love your videos!
Thankyou so mutch for all your hard work to produce this video has really helped me get back on the road and get my autistic grand daughter to hospital apointments
I need to get my ac looked at. I been putting in the DIY freon from Walmart but it never gets cold. Fan works and it cycles but stays hot. You are very detailed in figuring out what is going on. Good job. Thumbs up and shared.
I will be up in NYC /Jersey area sometime this year. That would be great. I brought this 1998 Jeep Cherokee for 1200 bucks and have driven it for 4 years. I fix a little on it a time on it. #TeamNoCarNote. Have a good day.
Thanks for all the effort Keith, I really appreciate the extra time this takes you in such a fast paced environment you work, it's great to see a real master tech at work poetry in motion kudos to you sir!
I am not an expert , BUT - if the car was running hot , you put in a thermostat , water pump and fan ? But you never check that the fan works - FIRST ? What if you ran jumper wires to it to see that it operates - why replace it ? Diagnosis VIA parts cannon ! Replace EVERYTHING - it's gotta work . We don't need no stinkin power ! How do they get away with it ?
Fantastic job thanks, that's a nice car I hope they install all the covers back on . I see it also already had some other connector hanging , but of course your there to deal with the fan issue..thanks for sharing, you helped me out a lot..
It always takes so much longer to do anything when you decide to film it. Always trying for the shot so everyone can see what it is you are talking about. Thanks for taking the time and giving us all a front row seat.
Excelent video… I had similar issue twice in my C230. In my case was failure of the fun. Maybe because I live on a hot weather are in which summer 120 degrees is normal I assuming inside the Engine it should way higher makes the fan to fail. I seen at least one video in the net in which one person open the fan ( had to cut enclosure fix it and glue it back) and found cold solder on some capacitors that reflow of the solder fixed. I ask to keep the old fan so when I find time I will open it and double check if that is the case. But 100% correct if the fan don’t work the AC fail to work also. Thank you
New Level Auto got the GB reman injectors last week from rock auto gonna put them in next week! Funny thing is friend of mine has a truck one year older same exact symptoms replaced his injectors truck runs fine! You are the man !!!!!
your doing great keith considering the fast track enviroment you work in and limited time you have , at the point you spotted the green crusties i was so expecting a "well theres ya problem lady" , i guess thats what you get when youve watched alot of Erics vids , maybe you could drop it in on a future vid it will defo make a lot of people chuckle , great vid keep it up .
I see you're using a test light, glad to see my 'Top 3' video helped 😀It'a Always Something Simple when it comes to electrical. Great video Keith, keep at it 👍🏼
Thank you so much sir I put a brand new radiator and a brand new fan and module and my son 08CLS 63 AMG after it was real cold I was sitting in the parking lot at work and the radiator just blew coolant all over the place I told it home and have not been able to figure it out since the fan will just not work but this video is very helpful and tomorrow morning I will go out again and go under there and find the cable first I’ll find that power box and test it with my own meter that has power and I’m hoping that maybe something was ran over to and it’s a broken wireAnd it’s OK that I spent money on a plan and other things because I am learning thank you so much sir
Also I hear some other motor or fan running that is on the passenger side front corner behind a bumper I never heard this running before curious as to what it is
Nice diagnostic lessons to be haved, last 42 yes dealers. and franchise's have been parts changers they would starve or close down but there is a plus gives real techs and honest ones like you guys and a like on YT work and demo your skills that are lacking in this industry which has been deemed rip off's and highway robbers, once a true tech along with mechanical skills costumers will be keepers rather than hopping garage to garage,, so those who call themselves Techs but really mechanics need to go back to school and learn how too proper diagnose these problems, thanks Keith for a wonderful lesson on how to be a true Tech and not just a mechanic, mechanics need to earn there badges by becoming a real Technician not by just a title that some mechanic call themselves, but authorized by those schools that provide such opportunities this is the future and cars are changing quicker than we can learn about diagnosing future problems we have no clue about as just being a mechanic ,and is my point, again good show Keith
jacob USA there are people I've seen out there that think that testing a solenoid is as simple as hearing it click, so I know the type you are referring to. What I can't understand is that with the wealth of ways to teach oneself nowadays that so many choose to use nonsensical methods in order to prove that they know something. I don't even teach a student that says the words "I know " more than once. The best way to learn is to admit that you don't know it all. On a bit of a ramble here ,but point is , take the good testing methods you see and apply them . There are some great guys doing great video like Eric , Ivan , Paul , Triangle, and so many others that each person should have a pen and pad handy at least to write down the titles of their videos and keep it near their toolboxes. I am glad you enjoyed my video and hope you'll like the others to come
New Level Auto in school one learns the basic and those want to pursue further education the automotive field take advantage what they can learn for free on YT yes eric paul Ivan keith Joe good source of fas diag, and in real time ,in school one gets basics once out in the field now there problems that where never duplicated in class because so many things can cause similar problems which may lead to the real problem source, automotive mech that have the basic now they need to get into the real world and finding a good work place that will apply training and begin an apprentiship, I started when 13 in 1972 today its has change 360 degrees we need to give them the chance to excell otherwise they loose interests and just have boxes collecting dust. BuT you guys make more fun even though frustrations at times , every car is a learning experience listen closely and ask questions when you don't now and this will show you're willing learn and then you will get help truly needed
Great video Keith and the explanation was clear enough that anyone should be able to follow along of what you are doing. I replied to your comment here because I see the same thing with new people at work that I train as new engineers right out of college. It still amazes me how management believes that someone with a degree is the almighty, supreme high intelligent being who knows all. And some of these guys don't even have any common sense and as you've mentioned, they pretty much know everything anyway. And what's more amazing is that there are some sharp guys on RU-vid and the information is there, but people still like to just change parts and couldn't care less of how stuff works. I know it takes a lot of time doing the videos, but it will pay off in the end as I'm sure there's still a lot of folks out there who would like to learn the correct procedure of diagnosing and how systems work. Have a good weekend Keith and don't work too hard.
Glad that stuff didnt end up covered up. Good investigation skills by noticing stuff missing and looking there first saves time. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and I have a bmw to fix tommorow with a dash lit up like a christmas tree.
New Level Auto I figured it meant better open that wallet lol. Luckily this is a 735i and looks well taken care of so they should fix whatever it needs. Others that I see they want minimal repairs to get by.
Thanks for the video I enjoy them very much but most importantly I learn tremendously from them keep up the good work can’t wait for the next one.sure you can tell I’m a new subscriber
I am very happy to hear that you enjoy them, and I hope that in some way they can help you down the line. And thanks for subbing and taking the time to comment !
